  1. Thanks for the info. I'm thinking I got a decent deal on this rifle. I only paid about $100 more for the entire package than you did for your upper!!! I know what I have is not FireBird material, but I bought this mainly as a patrol rifle....so I could take my JP rifle out of the trunk and quit getting it banged around. excellent! I wasn't trying to take anything away from your rifle. I was comparing my Firebird to the $1800 rifle I saw locally. No worries....I didn't take your comments that way. My main intentions when buying this rifle were to have something to carry with me on duty that was very similar to the rifle that I shoot at matches that I am the most comfortable with. They both have the JP trigger, both have the JP/VTAC tube, etc. Now I'm torn over what optic to put on the vtac rifle. I've got an Aimpoint on it at the moment, but I use a Leupold Mk IV 1.5-5x on my JP rifle. I really like the magnification, but I know the Aimpoint is good to several hundred yards too.....

  3. +1 for turning off the muffs before starting the stage. Less of a distraction with the sound coming up and down.

    Top 20

I would rather be in the top 20 of C class......than in the bottom 1000's of B class !!!!!!!!!!
  5. It's official....I've got one ordered !!! It should be here Wednesday.
  6. How much is yours selling for Ken....??? p.s. I still love my VZ58 you hooked me up with...thanks
  7. Knock about 25% off of that and it makes it a lot better deal !!! I can't wait to get it. Also gives me a valid excuse to buy a suppressor !!!!
  8. I am thinking seriously about ordering one of these for a duty rifle. I've found a really good deal on one, considering it comes from the factory with : -JP/VTAC handguard with three sections of rail -VTAC padded sling -Surefire G2 light with VTAC mount -Vltor butt stock -Surefire flash hider for quick-detach suppressors And to top it all off....JP Fire Controls with JP speed hammer !!! From the Factory !!!!! I'm really excited about this. Now I will be able to leave my JP competition rifle at home in the safe...instead of bouncing around mounted to the trunk of my car. The only negative that I can see is the carbine-length gas system.....and that's not a big deal to me.
  9. +1 for the Safariland doubler. I bought one of those Safariland Certificates everyone always sees for sale on here ($250 value) and after buying a complete duty gear rig I had quite a bit left over to play with. I picked up one of the doublers, sight unseen, and I was pleasantly surprised. Great review, BTW. You hit all the high-points and I have yet to find any down-falls with this product. I don't find the heighth difference in the two mags an issue when shooting prone....because when I'm reloading, i'm breaking my cheek weld and sight picture anyway....just reaquire it where it falls and go with it.
  10. I had an '02 Xterra for almost two years. Probably put 20-24k miles on it with no problem. Drove it all night to Destin, FL once at 85+ mph the entire trip, no stops except for gas. It seemed to handle very well for an SUV that sits up so high. I really enjoyed that vehicle, and probably would have kept it much longer....but a pilled-out lady ran a stop sign at approx. 45-50 mph and T-Boned me, striking me on the front-right corner. I was traveling down a 5 lane highway at the time, prob. going 55-60 mph. To the Xterra's credit....after being struck that hard, it continued straight down the road in my original traffic lane. From the angle I was struck, I could have easily been pushed over in to the on-coming traffic lanes. The airbags deployed (my first and only experience with that !!) and I walked away without a scratch !!! No aches, no pains, (no seatbelt..shhh). It also came with a very well stocked 1st aid kit that I salvaged and still carry in my car today.....
  11. Back right before Christmas....I ordered 4 pr. of 5.11 shorts from LAPG for $4.99 ea. !!!!!
  12. There is a bus tour that takes you out of town and you stop and visit a mom & pop Tequila business....then you continue on out in to the jungle on pig trails, to the same area where the movie Predator was filmed (they even still have the shell of some of the Huey helecopters there.) This is a beautiful area with a natural waterfall, and there is a outdoors resturaunt there near the waterfall.....no electricity, but it was great food. Well worth the time and money. Have Fun....Watch for drug cartel !!!
  13. Here's a link to it.....Can't post a pic right now (I'm at work...shhhhhhh) Burris XTR-14
  14. I haven't ever named my guns, but I had this "old school" Sergeant that would call any of my hard chromed pistols "Pimp Gun".
  15. Anyone know if yesterdays scores are posted anywhere yet ????
  16. How in the heck did you get a knife in to Disney World ??? I'm getting ready to go in 2 weeks, but I figured that place was more secure than an airport !!!!
  17. Anyone else seen one of these in the mean time ????
  18. I have suffered with allergies for the last 30 years.... I've tried every med, taken weekly shots from the Dr., but nothing ever really helped. Last year, a Dr. friend of mine got me a prescription for a steroid nose spray (RhinoCort) and it works like a miracle !!!! I can breathe out of both nostrils for the first time...well ever !!! Give it a try.
  19. I start off with a couple cups of home-brewed Starbucks and some fruit, then hit a convience store on the way to the match for a Starbucks "Double Shot" canned esspreso drink. Gotta have the caffine !!!!!!!
  20. I went with the 24" M2. It's short enough to get in and out of ports, but long enough to bird hunt with if I so choose.
  21. Has anyone had their hands on this newly released rifle from Colt ???? It's the one piecemonolithic upper with a full railed, free float hand guard. The bottom section of the handguard is removable....for those who would liek to add a grenade launcher . Anyhow, these things have been selling for $2K + and I've got a chance to get one at what I consider a steal.....just wondering if anyone has had any experience with these rifles... There is a big picture thread over on AR15.com if you want to check it out.
  22. Hey Jack. We're staying at Le Blanc. It's VERY nice and VERY relaxing. I've stayed in Cancun before but they are waiting on us hand & foot. The staff here is incredible. Where did you stay? We're probably going to Xcaret because I've never been and also to Playa del Carmen but we're driving ourselves to both. It helps that my wife is a native Spanish speaker and I speak a little too. We stayed at the Moon Palace. Second time we've stayed there. Plenty nice - but my experience is that most of them are pretty nice. The level of service was good, and to your point - the environment was totally relaxing. I've never been to Xcaret. I need to do that. Been to Chitza, been to Xel-Ha, swam with the dolphins etc. etc. but never Xcaret. Would love to hear your thoughts. And we love Playa. That is where we've stayed most of the time. Normally we go in the peak of spring break and Playa gets you away from the drunk 18 year olds that really shouldn't be drinking and aren't as good at it as they think they are. Anyhow - enjoy!!!! Jack +1 for Moon Palace....We've been there twice !!!! Very nice place to get away from the "hustle & bustle" of Cancun, but not too far away if you want to get in to it.
  23. I've owned 3 Para's over the years...Two just like the one you have there and one LDA 16.40 . I shot nothing but Remington factory ammo through all of them....and they ran like a champ. Great guns to start with before you break the bank on a $1500-$2500 limited gun !!!!
  24. The C-A-T tourniquets are great....We issue them to every one on our tactical team. We also all carry the Israeli Bandage . These are both quick and easy first aid items and both can be applied to ones self if you suffer an injury. Don't forget some medical scissors to cut through the clothing to get to the wound.
