  1. I use a Nova for competition, and an 870 for home defense. The nova is MUCH faster to reload, and generally you can find it cheaper in stores than the MSRP that was listed earlier in this thread. Brought my 24inch for $400, and then threw a Nordic Extension Tube, and clamp. I think all told I spent $475 total on it.
  2. Time to send out an email to my friends in VA to see if anyone wants to fly to this event!
  3. I used GunfightersINC magazine pouches for my M1A magazines. But he can custom make you some AR10 ones as well! Check his website out: http://www.gunfightersinc.com/
  4. http://tarheel3gun.com/match-rules/ Scroll down to their Tactical Class-Nonmagnified Optics (TN) Granted this isn't for Heavy Metal but its just another reason to not to assume a general ruleset but just read the specific match's rules your attending. That way you are sure your equipment/setup is good to go for the match.
  5. Also make sure the match does alow BDC reticles. Some matches will allow a 1x red dot, or optic in Limited but don't want you to have a BDC.
  6. Hate to get up topic but what kinda of grease are you using Pat? You can see it in the photo or do you just believe in putting alot of grease on the gun. I only had my M1A Loaded for a bit but I am trying to make sure I clean, and lube it properly.
  7. I notice you in VA the two matches that I know of that have Trooper Style rules is Tidewater 3 Gun in Moyock NC last year had a Recon Class where you could do whatever you wanted to your rifle, and then shotgun, and pistol were basic Tac/Limited rules. All ammo, cleaning gear, etc etc had to be on your person the whole match, and you had to walk from stage to stage. Now Tigerswan, and Tarheel 3 Gun will be hosting a match in NC thats a two gun match (pistol, and rifle), and they have a Tactical Shooter Division which will require using duty gear set ups. Here is the link for the announcement: http://tarheel3gun.com/tarheel-3-gun-and-tiger-swan-are-teaming-up-to-present-a-tactical-two-gun-matches/ Hope some of that helps!
  8. You really just gotta do the research, and find what you like. For example co-exprs doesn't like the LWRC REPR but one of my friends that shoots Heavy Optics loves his, and actually brought it over a SCAR-17 he was originally looking to buy for Heavy Optics. I think the great thing about Heavy Metal divisions compared to the rest of the Divisions I have seen is the wide varity of weapon platforms you see used. You can pretty much pick the rifle you want, set it up best for you, and as long as you are on top of your game keep up with the rest of the division. I even seen some people compete with the M1 Garands, and still give some of the other Heavy Metal shooters a run for their money!
  9. My thinking exactly. But is the trigger up to the task for serious accuracy on longer-range shots? I have no idea. If your willing to sit through the videos Nutnfacy on youtube did a video series with Kel-Tec comparing the RFB to other .308 platforms. They used an m1a socom if I remember, SCAR17, and an DPMS AR-10 as well as the RFB. If you don't mind their comments its interesting to see how they felt about the gun. Since they were running it in a run and gun format. They do make comments on how they don't like the trigger, and the problem of it using FAL magazines. I wouldn't use it since I don't really like bullpups that much but I would still find it interesting to see someone run it in a match. But then again I find anyone using anything thats not an AR-15 interesting. First video of 4: http://youtu.be/4QOK0MQCr1o
  10. I think it would be interesting to see a Kel Tec RFB in a Heavy Metal Optics match.
  11. I saw videos from two different shooters on MiniUziDotCom's youtube channel using KSGs at Task Force Dagger. Interesting choice though if I honestly ran one I would use it in Heavy Metal just so I be competing against other pumps. I noticed most of them had caddies for extra shells but were primarly reloading from side saddles which seemed to work better for them. Here is one video example but if you go look at the videos of Nick, and Hammer on MiniUziDotCom's channel they are more videos of them running the KSG. Apparently Hammer was a KelTec sponsored shooter since he was using an SU-16 as well. Hope seeing their reloading method helps you out!
  12. I honestly choose to shoot with an M1A Loaded since I plan on shooting Heavy Metal Irons/Limited primary. Like many have said already the M1A is not the most Optics friendly rifle unless your willing to spend some money. If your going back and forth from Irons to Optics an AR style rifle or SCAR-17 might be a better choice for you. But the wonderful thing I like about Heavy Metal is the wide varity of weapon choices you can use and still be competitive. I seen M1 Garands, the Rock River AR with FAL mags, FALs, and H&K G3s. I even saw a video one time of someone using an FNAR. While each rifle mention has its plus, and minus points I think Heavy Metal is one of the few divisions where you can shoot unique weapons, and still can keep up with everyone else with the right set up (of course assuming your having a good day shooting lol). So find what is best for you, enjoy shooting and go with it!
  13. Well it might have been mentioned earlier in this thread the reason I feel USPSA rules are always much longer is because they are trying to create the same rule set for an USPSA Multigun match no matter which club or staff is running it. Its written not only for the shooter but for the ROs, and MDs running the match so they will know HOW an USPSA multigun match should be run.
  14. I agreed with all the comments posted so far. I haven't finished reading the whole set of rules yet but I will send in an e-mail with my view on the rules. I will say I believe that Heavy Tactical should be a .45 caliber pistol, and not a .40 caliber. Heavy Metal Limited should also allow other types of .45 caliber pistols, and not be just 1911 pistols. Sean L. Powell USPSA Number A-74533
  15. What stock/base/kit whatever are you using as a base if you want to add a AFG stock?
  16. Shot Heavy Metal for the first time at this match, and while I was greatly disappionted in my performance I still had a great time, and still plan on shooting Heavy Metal, or Heavy Metal Optics in the future. Want to say thanks to Bryan Ray, and Patrick Kelly for giving me advice on equipment, and shooting this division. You guys inspired me to do this, and hopefully I shall keep getting better at it. Also Mark Otto at Triangle Shooting Sports for helping me with advice, and my shotgun equipment. Here is the video from my favorite, and what I felt best stage of the match. Though I believe I placed overall higher in Stage 5 but I prefer stages with all 3 Guns.
  17. I actually order some M1A magazine pouches from GunfightersINC I shall let you guys know how they turn out.
  18. If you love pumps, and haven't brought your carbine yet take a serious look at heavy metal divison. Granted you would have to upgrade to a 12 gauge pump. Though like other people have suggested just run with what you got for a bit until you decide which path you want to take.
  19. When youtubing Load 12 Challenge I happen to come accross a video of Jamie Franks doing this drill from Top Shot Season 2. While he wasn't as fast as some of you I really like the "Load 12" Pistol version he did (or load 6) halfway through the video so I thought I share it: Edit: I was just thinking about it but maybe those of you shooting Saiga-12s could try the pistol version for a good reloading/shooting drill. Just a thought!
  20. Don't forget Triangle Shooting Sports: http://www.triangleshootingsports.com/otto.htm Though its the same one you can get from 3 Gun Stuff just directly from Mark Otto. So you might be able to get these faster from him rather than waiting for them to be back in stock on 3 Gun Stuff.
  21. Does anybody use what appears to be a globe front iron sight? Any opinions on them?
  22. Well I am already having fun with this. Using just my stopwatch (be faster if I had a shotgun timer or someone timing me so I don't have to hit the watch) I was about 8-9 seconds. Granted thats not that impressive but for just now trying this quad load technique in the last 20 minutes I am pretty happy. I am using actually a Mark Otto load two vest so I do get slowed up having to grab a set of 2 then grab other set of 2 vs just having the ablity to grab all 4 at once. I do tend to sometimes fumble since my habit is to grab just 2 and load them before grabbing another two.
  23. Sorry to necro-post on this topic but didn't want to start another topic on the same subject. What about Pro-Mag M1A 20 rounders?
  24. That was one of my better stages at that match. I would love to see a video of someone shooting this stage. Tried looking up Multigun and 3 Gun Normandy but couldn't find anything.
