  1. Pretty sure its steel. My S2 is even showing tiny bits of rust in a few spots through the chrome.
  2. Welcome from the NW burbs. I shoot a 2011 in competition too. I think if you were comfortable carrying a 1911as a duty weapon, (I take it that is what the Dan Wesson Specialist is) there shouldn't be too much difference between it and a 2011, except possibly for cost... The only differences between a 1911 and 2011 are the mags, and the frame, and few other small parts, but most everything else is the same parts out of a 1911. Most if not all are 70 series though, not the 80 series with firing pin block if that matters to you.
  3. OK, so the key to keep it production legal is to only open up the magwell front to back and not to touch the sides?
  4. Interesting... I for some reason always though you couldn't do that in production, but if you got approval, you have me considering doing the same myself....
  5. I have one in my Stock II. I like the feel of it, and it feels smoother for some reason than the stock one, but my trigger pull weights have always been a tiny bit heavier than others, and I wonder if something about the geometry of the trigger is upping my pull weight by about a quarter of a pound. ...May be all in my head though.
  6. So the trigger that comes in the gun from the factory for the 320 X5 is the actual GGI piece? That would legalize the flat one. I still see no way the curved one is legal. I though the rule was it has to be available on a gun from the production gun list... Unless that changed...
  7. Can someone link me to where it is explained that either of these aftermarket triggers are legal for USPSA Production??? They are not offered from the factory on any gun on the list, right?
  8. Congrats on your upcoming bday. I'm sure that is a nicely built gun, that would be a hoot to shoot, but if you intend to compete, it doesn't really fit in anywhere. I would probably take a look at the production gun list, and try to pick your first gun from there. It may be a good idea to read through the Production equipment rules first, to make sure you don't find yourself with a gun you cant compete (competitively) with... I remember my first gun, CZ 75 SA in .40 I found myself shooting Limited 10 because it was the only place it fit in. Fantastic gun, even went to CZC for trigger job (even more fantastic), but I have since sold it and have bought more dedicated limited and production guns, they are far more competitive in their respective divisions. I will say though that I wish I never sold that CZ, just because it was my first, same as you bought very shortly after my 21st... Good luck!
  9. Makes me wonder of these kind of add ons are more of a crutch for those lower level shooters that struggle with recoil control. For a shooter like you, with I'm sure a very good grip and handle on recoil control, there is not much improvement to be had from a thumb rest... Still looks like a beautiful piece of engineering and machining though!
  10. Are you talking about something like this?
  11. My buddy said whenever I'm available we can go shoot it, but its my wife's birthday this week, so she comes first... Hopefully I get to try shooting it soon. I will say, I was under the impression the history of accuracy issues was more of an issue of twist rate with the older M1.0 guns, and that that was resolved a few years back. Wasn't it something like if you pull the barrel out and it has one or two dimples on the bottom, it is one of the new twist rates that provides better accuracy? I'm pretty sure bullet weight made a big difference too. I could be totally wrong, so others are welcome to chime in with the facts...
  12. My buddy got his and I got a chance to take the slide off and see how things work in the fire control group. Its actually a very logical improvement. They used to have the shepards hook and the little lobe that came off the sear, but regardless of surface finish or lubrication, you still had two spring loaded parts sliding against each other. Now they have a little arm that comes off the sear and contacts the rear of the FPB lever on the trigger bar, so the trigger bar only pushes straight back, no more sliding of any kind between the sear and trigger bar, just pivoting. I think it makes it much smoother and crisper, I also noticed the finish of all the parts is very good, much better than older M1.0's. I also noticed much less of the plastic on plastic sliding that you could feel before, I guess between the trigger and grip. I took a couple of pics trying to show what is going on in there. The two are similar but maybe one shows something better than the other so I'll post both. I also tried messing with brightness and contrast to make the inner workings more visible.
  13. Lots of interesting videos are showing up on you tube from shot show of people checking out and shooting this gun. Seems to be VERY flat shooting, with its weight and low bore axis. The low guide rod design and strange barrel lug system concern me though... I had the same idea at about the same time around 3 years ago, to come up with a striker fired 1911. Part of me wonders if I could have pulled off anything as substantial as these guys have in such little time if I had tried. Gotta give them props for what they have accomplished!
  14. I think they are. I was on the list for a pair months back, but the progress seems to have totally stalled out, who knows... I'm still keeping an eye out for a pair for my Stock II.
  15. That would be pretty annoying that after including 4 of the extended mags with the gun, you would have to go out and buy all new mags just to shoot Production... Its like they are more marketing the gun as a limited minor, or 3-Gun pistol.
  16. Will the gun fit in the production box with the provided 140 magazines? And I guess mag well removed...
  17. This is very likely true... but I hope they don't wait a whole year. I would be very interested to get my hands on a full size gun, or better yet a competition specific model!
  18. Thanks for posting those pics, first clear ones with the slide off that I've seen! Are you under the impression that sight configuration is how they are going to come??? (front f/o and rear adjustable) All pictures I have seen just have the standard steel white dot fixed sights as the rest of the M&P's always have. Can you shed any more light on how the trigger bar interacts with the sear compared to the old shepherd's hook one?
  19. That's more what I was suggesting was possible. Accidents happen.
  20. I have to wonder if they didn't just send you the wrong spring... In my experience the long slide = short slide + 2 lbs has seemed true. Especially since you are having the issue with an 11 lb spring which is not that strong. Remember they make these guns in 10mm with what... 24 lb springs? Are you certain there isn't something going on with your reverse plug or something? Also, just a general note to all, free length is not everything when it comes to springs, wire diameter, and number of coils also effects spring weight which if I recall is supposed to be the weight of the spring at full compression, not the weight per change in length of an inch like many other industries. (Pretty sure they is what they explain on Wolf's website) Just to be sure, maybe take the spring you are having trouble with out with the guide rod. Manually compress it until all the coils touch and measure the length. Then calculate the length of space left inside the gun for the spring at full recoil. That will tell you if the issue is indeed the spring bottoming out or not.
  21. I find it strange that there are parts up on apex already. I definitely want to see one of these up close. I was watching this videos about the M2.0's and this guy actually shows that the trigger sear mechanism IS different between the M1.0 and M2.0. Its possible some parts are different but the actual sear is unchanged... My buddy is getting one, so I cant wait to try it out. He talks about the new trigger/sear mechanism at 1:10.
  22. very interesting but unlike the 1911/2011 one it looks like the pad is in front of the pivot and not behind. Wouldn't applying pressure to it with your tumb cause the rear to lift and drag against the slide??? I see they say multiple times that, " Slide lock does not lock the slide back on last round or manually. " But I would still be concerned it could slow the slide and cause cycling issues. Maybe I'm missing something about the design....
  23. Will it rule production? Who knows... It is only initially being offered with a shorter barrel 4.25". If they later came out with a longer barreled version and any sort of aftermarket (factory trigger pull weight is pretty high), I could see it getting some traction. I know for a long time there didn't exist a steel framed stricker fired pistol, I for one always wanted one, and soon we will have one. I'm exited to check one out when they make it to the wild!!!
  24. Welcome from a fellow IL shooter. I'm from the NW Chicago burbs.
