  1. Well it can be made to fit... Turns out the guide rod is aluminum. They do advertise it as 'metal'. The cup at the end that captures the spring is just retained with a little c shaped clip that goes in a groove on the guide rod, but with the clip in place it would not fit through the hole on my .22 slide, so I'm not using it captured. The dia of the head was too big, so I reduced it a bit so it would fit. The shaft dia is too big for the .22 spring, so I started cutting coils off the one that came with the captured guide rod and was actually able to get it to cycle pretty well! Pics to come...
  2. As I should have known, I got impatient and ordered the Steel captured guide rod from Beretta, it was only $18 shipped so it will be fun to mess with while I'm stuck at home, but I just got a response from Brownells today saying the dimensions of the part are: OD Major: 0.410” OD Minor: 0.292” The 92-22 dimensions I measured are: OD Major (Head that sits against take down leaver): 0.372" OD Minor (Shaft Diameter): 0.236" (ID of recoil spring): 0.290" I can potentially reduce the head diameter. But I doubt I'm going to be able to reduce the minor OD without a lathe... I wonder if I could get a low weight 9mm recoil spring, like a 9lb, and clip a few coils to get the .22 to cycle with it?
  3. Just for fun, this is what I'm talking about
  4. I just got a rimfire Beretta, 92FSR, and for fun, I'm seeing what other real steel Beretta parts will fit on it to improve it. It is said to be a full size replica of the 92, and I've already put a "D" main spring in it, and put some aftermarket G10 grips on it. My rimfire one has a captured guide rod/recoil spring, and the 92A1 and m9A1 have one that looks very similar, before I spend the money on one, I was hoping someone out there with either of these guns could go and measure the diameter where the spring rides and the head diameter that seats in the frame against the take down lever. Aftermarket steel captured guide rod for the 92A1 I'm hoping to try out in my rimfire gun: Thanks, -Eli
  5. Unfortunately I didn't make any notes and I don't remember exactly. To the best of my recollection, it was something like a 3/8 end mill at 1180 rpm. After my "machining" I did go back through with 220 sandpaper to get the remaining shape how I wanted it, then worked up to 320 then 600. (maybe 1500 don't remember) then I did actually use some mothers mag and aluminum polish on it, just by hand with a paper towel after. That helped to get it to the final finish. One note I would advise people though, is to not remove too much material from the back underside of the beaver tail. I did thinking I wanted to make it look more like a 1911 style one, but now the back quarter or so if it doesn't even make contact with my hand, so I wish I would have left a little more meat there...
  6. I ended up reaching out to Springer Precision, they were prompt to respond, and sent me out a replacement no questions asked. The new one seems good to go for now, I have a match Wednesday to put it to the test. The one I took off, that came loose, looked like there was no thread locker on the threads, so maybe they just missed it on one piece or something...
  7. So I went with the extended paddle release for my Legion, and found out a few things. First, when swapping releases, the key to removal I found is not to use too large of a tool, it must be considerably smaller than the size of the hole, so that you can depress the detent, then pivot your tool slightly to make the detent start coming out of the release. At my first match with the gun and the new release, I found it made weak hand only shooting kind of strange, the paddle was right against the webbing of my weak hand , it didn't release unwantedly, but it made it very challenging to get a good high grip for weak hand only. Lastly, by the end of the match, (4 stages) I noticed the paddle had become loose from the release button itself! The paddle is advertised as being permanently attached, so I will have to contact Springer Precision and see what they want me to do. I'm wondering if given the chance, if I should just switch back over to the standard extended version in place of the one with the paddle...
  8. I have pretty medium size hands. I checked all of my other competition guns and I have to do the little flip to rotate the gun a bit to reach the release, and it hasn't held me back much. I would still think having a little less of a reach wouldn't hurt, so I may give the one with the paddle a try if it really is production / carry optics legal. Can someone point me to documented proof of this in case I am challenged at a match, I didn't see it in the production annex section. As for table starts I was trained years ago, to first get your weak hand finger tips under the rear of the slide to start lifting it up, so you can get a good grip on the gun with your strong hand. This should logically eliminate the problem of the magazine being released at the same time...
  9. What should I consider when deciding weather to get the regular extended mag release, or the special one with the paddle. They are about the same price if you go with the steel extended release. Do they both equally increase the likelihood of a mag being released during a table start? Any other notable differences?
  10. I have been searching for two days but have found no clear answer.... Is this new paddle style mag release legal for Production (Carry Optics)??? Is the plain strait extended one they also make legal?
  11. I read somewhere that it was to break up the gun visually and make the bore axis appear lower... Could be wrong though...
  12. I had accidentally started a different topic, but I figured I would show off my handiwork here too, in case it gives anyone any good ideas. I think it feels completely better than before!
  13. In case anyone cares, my modification removed 0.14 oz from my tungsten grip module.

I got my barrel replaced with a non LCI one. It was pretty simple. Took exactly one week from the time it was shipped out to when it was recieved back. I was warned if you handled the shipping yourself, you had to be there to sign for it on return. It could not be redirected to a hub, or rescheduled to a weekend, so I just let my FFL handle the shipping and receiving. He does a lot of transfers for me, so he did it no charge! I was given no specific instructions over the phone, so I sent the whole gun with DPP mounted and one magazine in the factory case, no complaints that I was aware of. First hundred rounds and the optic looks clean. I feel like the new barrel fits a little tighter, may just be in my head though... Side note, sounds like the process all goes much smoother and quickly, if you just call Sig CS, instead of trying to do it via email.
  15. Pic of my "milling" set up. X-Y vise, and a cheap craftsman drill press. Actually worked quite well for this.
  16. Pic of half way after "milling". Then, the final product!
  17. I worked up the nerve to make these modifications on my Legion Tungsten grip. I think the results came out really well, photos to follow...
  18. I was talking about the polymer mag well in the grip not the detachable one. Notice the different curvature of the rear of the grip near the bottom too.
  19. Looks like I kind of reinvented the wheel a little bit, but I did execute the modification a little different that the others on your topic. Also, it has been verified it is acceptable for carry optics, but if I took the optic off and wanted to go back to production, would it still be allowed? Side note, does anyone know the optimal FPS / IPS cutting speed for polymer, or the tungsten polymer? I am actually using an end mill on my drill press with an X Y vise, not sure if I was cutting at the right speed...
  20. Hey All, So I picked up an X5 Legion to give carry optics. So far I have been pretty happy with it, and I love the weight of it, but I found the grip dug into the the base of my thumb, which drove me nuts. I realized that all of my favorite guns have wide grips with narrow beaver tails, Tanfo, CZ, 2011. I was afraid to start cutting on the fancy legion grip, so I used part of my $200 rebate to get a standard polymer X5 grip, to modify. The modification was a little rough, because I rushed a bit, but I think it feels 100 times better now. I also realized that Sig does offer a similar narrow beavertail grip the for the XCompact, but its grip diameter is smaller and it doesn't have the same magwell, which we need for competition. Don't even think it would work with the 5" barrel anyway, but I handled one at a local gun shop, and it similarly feels way better than the standard X grips. Question is, would this grip modification be legal for Carry Optics (or Production)? I want to be sure before modifying my actual X5 Legion grip in the same way. XCompact Grip:
  21. I was able to get one of the gray guns trigger return springs by itself from Shooters Connection. Put it in and it reduced the trigger pull another 4 oz. Not bad for $6 plus shipping! Over all trigger is now measuring 2 lb 11.3 oz from the end of the trigger. This reduces the first stage tension on the trigger to very little. I think its enough, but live fire will have to prove this. I gave up on trying to measure the trigger pull from the middle of the flat trigger, like I was doing previously... it was just too hard to get a consistent measurement. Using the end of the trigger method, I had a 2 lb 15.3 oz trigger pull before swapping the spring out. For reference, the same configuration, while trying to get a measurement from the middle of the trigger as I did above, resulted in about a 3 lb 15 oz pull.
  22. I literally just mounted my optic a few weeks ago on my Legion, and haven't even had the chance to shoot it with the optic yet. I would like to get the barrel replaced though, since I know its going to be an issue like it is for everyone else... Should I wait to shoot it to have proof, or do people think I can just convince them to do it based on the experiences of everyone else? Also, what if a few little things had been changed out in the trigger? Do you guys think it is critical to change everything back to stock, or they may void warranty and not exchange the barrel?
  23. Yes I have, and it shoots really soft! I'm impressed! This is coming from a Tanfo Stock II shooter. Not sure if I need more grip or not at this point... So I tried this spring/sleeve trigger over travel reduction mod last night and came to two conclusions: First, the spring MUST BE CUT TO LENGTH SO THERE IS STILL CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE FRAME AND TAKEDOWN DISCONNECT ARM. I had it a little longer the first time arround so there was still some tension, and I nearly "bricked" the gun. I didn't realize that was even possible! The spring snapped into a position where it would not allow the takedown arm to move back and allow the takedown lever to be rotated. But it took me at least a nerve racking half hour to get the spring compressed with the gun assembled to get the take down lever rotated down to get the slide back off. Make sure there is still a little clearance between the takedown arm and the end of the spring. Second, after correcting the above potential disaster, the spring absolutely and considerably reduced over travel and trigger reset. While I was in there I polished all the parts, surfaces, and bores that people suggest, and that make contact. This made for a greatly improved trigger. All be it, still about 4 lb 4 oz from the middle of the trigger. Tonight, as an experiment, I took out one of the two sear springs. (Ejector port side) Not only did this decrease the trigger pull to about 3 lb 15 oz, it completely transformed that sliding break feel, that I hated, into a crisp break, that I love! The trigger honestly feels pretty darn good now, all with just some polishing and a spring I had sitting around!
  24. That makes sense, thank you both for explaining. I just spent the money for an x5 legion, and do actually plan to get the GGI comp trigger at some point, but I'm saving up for a DPP first, so I may mess with cheap DIY trigger upgrades for the time being.
