  1. I like my .45. In fact, just ordered 20 more mags for it...
  2. Try the Miculeks for a while. At first, I didn't like how slick they were, and tried some other options, including the X-frame Hogue grip. Ended up going back to the Miculeks, with the only modification being a bit of reshaping on the left side to ease access to the cylinder latch and to clear loading a bit more. I left them smooth, and they give me no trouble with lots of major .45s.
  3. FYI, that generally means the chambers on your 625 are tighter than SAAMI spec, which is very common on 625-2s and 625-8s. You might want to consider reaming the chambers. Okay, I've read about that being a problem with my .22 revolver too. It has sticky extraction, but the 625 doesn't seem to have any problems with tight chambers. If I'm not having difficulties, is there any reason not to just leave it be?
  4. When I did mine awhile back, I had already ordered the 5/8" one before I realized it would hit the extractor. Not wanting to return it, and wanting the extractor chamfered, I slowly spun the cutting end of the tool against my Dremel grinding wheel until it was just small enough to miss the ratchet. Something like 9/16". The pilot Brownell's specified was too large for my chambers, and had to be hand polished quite a bit to make it fit.
  5. The J I shoot the most is a 5" .22. I'd guess about 500 off the clock, plus I think 3 steel matches. Won the iron sight rimfire division. My wife shot her 649 in maybe 2 steel matches. Probably 200 rounds off the clock.
  6. They make 2 heights, you just got the tall ones made for .38s. The shorter ones are nicer for .45 auto, but are too short for the longer rounds.
  7. My Trophy match came without a pin. You use the bent pin in Quack's photo from the outside for reassembly.
  8. I'm in the same boat--need an adjustable sight for a Novak cut but dislike the adjustable Novaks available. Looks like I'd have to send you the slide to have it machined? Doesn't seem to be on your website.
  9. I'm not sure, but I think Springfield guns use an odd size firing pin. Does anyone know who makes an extended pin to fit a 2-3 year old Trophy Match? I e-mailed Limcat to see if theirs would fit, no response...
  10. I got the Lyman digital one, and like it, but I haven't measured anything but trigger pull with it. It maxes at 12#, so won't measure stock S&W triggers. With minimal tinkering I got my 625 to 7.25#, utterly reliable. I may pursue it further.
  11. Mix it up. I shoot mostly USPSA, all six divisions, but I do try to shoot one gun (or type of gun) for at least 6 months straight. Been shooting revolver since July, but am about to switch back to SS to prep for the SS Nationals in May. Don't know that I qualify as "serious" though, this'll be my first big match.
  12. Okay, people are saying the optimum is to trim 50% off stock. I already did a minimal trim (spur removal only), so now I'm wondering what the 50% weight is? Anybody know what half an MIM 625 hammer weighs?
  13. All my competition guns for all divisions have black adjustable rears and a narrow red FO front. Haven't tried the green fo yet, but thinking about it.
  14. Nice...My S&W 63 8 shot does this too...good to find the solution.
  15. If you might want to shoot it in IDPA, better stick to 4".
  16. I thought you went to revolver because beating us open guys with your single stack was getting boring! Pat That'll be the day! I did manage to beat Dale with it in the last shootoff. I think he was a bit disappointed. I even won a stage with it in the last steel match. Gonna shoot it couple more months, then switch to Limited. See you in Dec in Palmer, I hope.
  17. I took a class with Strader this summer. Definitely worth it, but I think it's something you need to to several times, preferably with different instructors. I hope to take one class every year. Can't afford to travel Outside for them, but a local gunshop/range owner brings some instructors in every year. Not one-on-one though, can't have everything.
  18. I got one, really like it. You do have to make sure the clips overlap properly, and the last ones out are easier as Matt says, but it sure beats reaching and looking everywhere. If I'd known he has a 10 clip model I'd probably have gotten that one, but really 6 is plenty. I usually stick my IDPA post one on there too to be safe, but I usually just use that at LAMR. Stick a couple washers in front of the belt clip on your load-from side to get a little more clearance from the belt. Good conversation starter at matches too
  19. I just bought a Caspian locking ambi safety off the USPSA classifieds. It uses a locking pin similar to the Kimber as Duane describes it (haven't seen a Kimber). The two sides join with a square drive setup. It uses a locking sear pin AND the grip tab for retention, and the opening for the sear pin is at the bottom. Opinions? I got it cheap and the stock one on my SA was giving me problems so I thought I'd try it, but I've been shooting revolver lately so haven't got it installed yet. The thumb pads are the same size on both sides.
  20. Got mine direct. BMTequipped.com
  21. Glad I found this thread. I shoot both eyes open, target focus. This is the first place I found other shooters saying it might actually work. I mean, it works for me at my level, but I want it to work at a far higher level, if you know what I mean. The double image is so strong with fsight focus, and other problems like seeing the side of the front sight with the left eye, that I'm not sure I could switch at all. I've been trying to decide if it's worth the months of work (and lousy scores in the meantime) I think it would take to switch to front sight focus.
  22. I have kids 3, 6, 8. I haven't tried them on pistols yet, they haven't been too interested, but they do like their .22 rifles. I only allow them to shoot under strict supervision. The 8yo is pretty safe, I think she could do with a little less caution, but the 6yo needs to have me very near. The 3yo is too young.period. I checked with our local indoor range to see if I could take them there to shoot (again, under strict supervision, one at a time), and was told the minimum age is 10.
  23. I like my BMT mooner. Haven't tried other remooners but I don't think I need to... Sometimes I have trouble removing a tight case with it though, so a tool like Brownell's is handy for those.
  24. Hmm, I was 14 when I got my first firearm. Had to save my pennies to buy a Marlin 25 .22 at a hardware store for $75. But I got a handmedown BB gun at 8.
  25. Okay, I'm new to the whole AR thing, more of a pistol shooter. No one seems to mention Timney triggers. Comments?
