Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I'm new to shooting competitions... what I don't understand is the Glock in both ESP & SSP. I know there is a "technical" reason for it but I have a hard time thinking of it as a DA/SA or having the ability to be "cocked and locked" (nothing locks it... yes, I know there is a "trigger safety").
  2. thanks Mbane! I'll definitely check it out. I did send an email to IDPA HQ telling them about my exposure to IDPA via the show... In fact, I hadn't mentioned it to you before but a group of us who shoot together were interested in some kind of competitive shooting activity. So, when I saw your show on 10pm MST (I live in Utah) I called my 3 buddies and all of 4 of us joined the IDPA... I did pass that on to HQ! Great show, keep 'em coming!
  3. Good info. I have looked at the Master Blaster bullets and they definitely are interesting to consider. I can get the West Coast Bullets plated 200gr SWC at $50/1000 delivered (buying bulk, direct). I didn't realize the Master Blasters where as cheap... probably worth a little expiramentation.
  4. Mbane, I saw your show on cable when you covered IDPA nationals... In fact, it inspired me to go and seek out my local IDPA club to shoot in (my first competitive shooting endeavor). Is there a set time the show comes on? I've had a hard time finding it again... seems like the only shows the two outdoor channels I get on Direct TV show Gold mining and Bull riding 24/7... Don't get me wrong, God Bless bull riders and people who mine for gold, but more shows on guns would be preferrable to me!
  5. Good feedback on both posts. I'm a little nervous since my Wilson CQB is very accurate but fickle with crimp/OAL. I too have been crimping to .469, but will try backing off a little for some test rounds to .471. Good advice, thank you.
  6. I've been loading .45ACP 200gr L-SWC (Oregon Trail) with 4.5gr VV-N310, 1.250 OAL, .469 Crimp (ala the "Wislon Load"). At roughly 4,000 ft elevation this reliably gives me 850 fps and shoots incredibly accurate. Often during the winter months I am forced to shoot indoors and I am trying to develop a similar load with plated bullets. Does anyone have some advice on VV-N310 loads for plated (West Coast Bullets) .45ACP 200gr SWC's? Should I expect the same velocity/accuracy with a plated bullet using 4.5gr of N310? Or have any of you found something better for a plated 200gr SWC?
  7. I don't know if you guys can find something like this, but PAR times for the lower divisions of IDPA on the classifier would be terrific! I'm new to IDPA (my second match is in 2 weeks)... it would be nice to have someone benchmarks for each of the strings in the stages (or better yet the format you used for each shot). I have no idea what is good or bad at each particular string/stage so I don't necessarily know where to focus my self-improvement activities...
