  1. I find WSF a good alternative to VV powders that are hard to find where I presently am. (i.e not in TX) regarding felt recoil and consistant , i.e. low SD on 9mm loads. Remember this is all very subjective. like some one else said. set up some courses of fire and run them with a time and score them etc to see which load you shoot best. I use a a heavier PF load in my 9 production gun cause I shoot / score better with it. May be that I'm used to shoot SS 45acp. It doesn't matter what works for me but what works for you. Try a 100 of all three loads and you'll start to get an idea what you like and shoot better.
  2. Been using 7625 having a hard time finding it. LGS said some guys are using AutoComp instead and liking it. Anybody here using AutoComp in the 38 SC for major? I bought a pound and thought I'd try it but havn't found any info. Any help appreciated. thanks for sticking to subject
  3. All the SS shooters I know use 230gr rn either lead or Jacketed. The lead guys I know "again" shoot 3.9 to 4.0 grs of Clays. Like always try a bunch of stuff and see what works for you
  4. Agree a CMJ has a fmj profile or at least very similar. Titegroup is a good powder for 9mm also
  5. WSF works for me and seems to be more of a push than a snap recoil wise. I started low with Hodgdon's website and worked up till I got the groups I wanted. I use it for a minor load i.e. light
  6. Own 1911's, 2011 and MP in 45acp. Like them all that's why I bought them. My favorite is a Steel 1911. Feels best in the hand to me . Points the best because Mr. Browning understood the human body before they called it ergonomics! BUT Shoot what fits you both in your hand and in your soul. Nothing like 40 plus ozs of 1911!!!!
  7. Along with most the others I TAPER crimp mine. As a matter of fact I shoot the same load out of the 625 and 1911. Just use some pretty brand new brass for the 625 that isn't beat up from the extractor. Like others I chamferred my cyl. more importantly I polished the chambers and now it loads like grease. Can even do the JM drop/throw reload. don't have the guts to try that in a match yet though!!!!
  8. I've thought about the 40 plus a little option but wanting to see if anybody has done more than I have so far. Thanks for the input. I've got a 180 Pf load on the first attempt with 5.3grs of titegroup and 180 hornady HAP. still looking for some more options
  9. Any body worked up a nice 10mm major load at about 170-172 PF for the 10mm. I've got lots of full power loads but want to use this gun more than for hunting and full power fun shooting. Would like to use in SS this winter, Shooting 180 lead or jacketed bullets, i've got both Thanks for any input jcc7x7
  10. Bayou's load at Lead spec's. But will GENRALLY shoot a little faster than plain lead. Example 230 rn lead 3.9 clays go 169 PF out of two fo my guns. Bayou's same load etc go 170.5 PF. I don't mess with the load for the bullet as my splits are the same with either load so I don't concern myself with it. Bell the case a "little" more so you don't scrap the coating
  11. My understanding is you have to go BACK where you came from to cover. That you can not advance during your emergency reload. I'm not an SO though. Been wrong before will probably be again!!!!
  12. 90% of clubs don't follow the rules anyhow! when was the last time an award was given locally. When have you seen the SO's that shoot on friday at bigger matches get a Procedural, FTN, etc etc.
  13. The 200gr H&G 68 was the gold standard for years in uspsa/ipsc shooting behind 5.6-58 of 231/ HP-38 (same powder different bottle, Hodgdon with verify that info),COl 1.250 that load gave 180 power factor back in the old days when PF was higher. So you can go down to get your comfort level of PF. I shoot 230 with clays BUT still have a load worked up for 200gr SWC load COL 1.250 between 4.1-4.2 makes 170-171 Pf in all of my 1911's load depends on barrel ie.e how tight is the chamber and actual barrel, etc You might try some 230gr they reach PF easy with Clays and as said above is the new gold standard for uspsa Single Stack, think you might be looking for something that isn't needed BUT half the fun is experimenting to see what works best for you. Win 231, WST, Clays, (good ole) Bullseye, Titegroup, etc etc will all get you to Power factor with a cushion good Fortune jcc7x7
  14. I use WSF in both the 9mm minor and 40 Major 9mm 122-125 lead 4.2 grs and get 129-131 pf depending on the bullet, 4.6gr with jacketed 125 either HAP's or MG's get 130 PF 40 180gr jacketed 170 Pf is .3ths different in two different 5" bbls so I'm not gonna give yo the amt. Start mid range on the Hodgdon website and get the chrono out to make sure. I live in the north east and havn't had any problems with temp. sensitivity BUT the temp only moved 10 to 20 degrees during the summer. Good shooting P.S. I worked the 40 loads up during the summer and those two guns are like that with every powder I've used, so its not the powder but the guns
  15. p220 sao IN cdp SOMETIMES! Recoil spring 16 to 18 pounds. Dawson has the correct sight height
  16. Nice match! Shoot two stages in the rain on Sat morning. One was light rain the other down pour, but we had to get going so the afternoon squads could shot etc. Shirts were "soft" Lots of sponsors but not much general stuff given out BUT they did give some guns a glock and a ruger so that was cool! Waiting on the call of my GUN!!! yeah LOL SO's did a good job in general, I did not get called for it BUT 4 of the guys in my squad got called for using the car for cover and the SO wanted you to use the edge of the wall next to the car! in the SO's defense he told everybody he was going to do that in the stage briefing! If they do another match there next year I'll go back, good stages in general. According the them probably won't be the "state"
  17. They chrono the same and have the same SD.
  18. Hodgdon website should have wst listed and BE should have info everywhere you look. I shoot wsf, for me it works velocity and handpush just as well and VV 320 or 340 and its a whole lot easier to get in my area.
  19. The black box with white printing are the ones I've used with great success. Never had a bad one yeat in about 13,000. BUt I bought some off a guy that said he was having a hard time getting them to fire in his 15 lbs main spring, 9mm 1911!! I bought and used them without problem. I run 17 or 18 lbs mainsprings to speed the hammer fall! Mains only effect trigger pull by ozs. at 2 lbs intervals and that can be adjusted other ways. So my answer in a nut shell is "buy them"
  20. It's all over now!! Great match some really neat stages. Only a couple of "SO" calls that were ridiculous. Mostly on other shooters. I got my share from them but not as bad a some other guys. 10 "SO" teams out of 11 ain't bad though!!! OVERALL Match was great!! No I didn't win it and still think it was a great match! Shot well but not as good as a couple of other folks It's worth the trip! I'm already planning to go next year!! Thanks to Ken O and his team for putting it on Big thank you to CED they came through as a match sponsor and gave out some really nice gear. Not just pistol bags but stuff from their whole line!! Thanks to CED again This match made a uspsa shooter want to go and shoot some more IDPA.
  21. rule book says serrations are legal?!?! Glossary says " Removal of portions of the slide to gain a competitive advantage" Looks like those are for eye appeal not advantage. I's say Ok BUt the problem with IDPA is the guy who checks your gun amy say its for "Comp advantage" Bring it to a match and ask for an SO who had worked some big shoots. they should be able to tell you better than I!
  22. Why? is my simple answer and question. Only single stack allows more rounds in the gun than Major guns. Limited, L-10 and open DON'T So let the guys with 38's shot the guns they already probably own with 6 shoots and compete at minor. There is a huge difference between revolvers with 6 and 8 because of the way most matches and classifiers are set up. Usually with 8 to 10 rounds being fired in an array or shooting position. Never mind the 8 round guns unless they go into/against production: but that horse has already been dug up. So there is my 2 cents worth.

    WSF

I'll add this to my 4.3 of WSF a 122 TC lead bullet and COL 1.065 works in 3 1911's a glock (don't tell the gun I'm shooting lead out of it) and a SIG 226
