Just attended a IDPA new shooter class this past saturday and it was excellent- covered just about everything and ran us through 4 stages. Definately will make it much easier to attend my first match in April. This saturday I have a similar class for IPSC- can't wait!!
I was just recently in the same situation and received the same advice which I readily took. Recently bought everything I needed (for now) from Brian 550 and all the goodies. I've only been reloading for a few weeks now but I LOVE IT! I'm shooting more than ever and I really feel like I'm taking a bigger part in my effort to become a better shooter. Some may think it sounds stupid but I feel alot of pride in shooting my own rounds, plus I get to learn something new every day.
Appreciate the info, I was a little confused this weekend following the Hodgon manual which called for an OAL of 1.155 (to be honest seemed like the bullet was seated too far to me)
I'm new to reloading and have a few questions on COL, I've tried to read every post I can on the subject. I think I understand the effect of this on pressure and velocity (longer COL less pressure, shorter COL more pressure) My question is when coming up with a load is it best to follow the load right out of the manual (besides starting 10% lighter on the powder) Or does one try and keep the COL as close as possible to that which functions best in the gun and then adjust the powder to the load they desire?
Thanks Eric. That was with empty mags. I just wasn't sure how much of the catch should be sticking out for adequate hookup. Really couldn't see anything else they would be catching on. Only lines I get (from the sharpie method) are two towards the front of the mag just before the curve.
Checked it out last night, mags are dragging slightly on the front (can't see anything sticking out of the magwell) Also how much should be sticking out on the mag catch- really have to slam the mags home and I get some drag when released- would a lighter spring help this?
Trying to get my mags going in and out as smooth as possible- do I need to polish the inside of my magwell? I've noticed my new mags don't slide out as easily as I had hoped, any suggestions?
S/A 1911, with wilson speed chute and wilson mags (both 8 and 10 round seem to do the same thing)
So glad I started here, the advice, products, members are top notch. Definately has made it loads easier to start out in this sport.
Thanks Brian and Everyone!
P.S. Can't wait to get my new Dillon, and all my goodies!!!!!
I didn't notice until I had already placed my order that it says does not include insert- order all my stuff from Brownells- think the insert was $17 or something like that.
