  1. I watched a video of a guy smoothing up his buddy’s new 4.25” Prodigy. The frame-slide and barrel-slide fit seemed ok. There was a lot of plastic flashing to clean up, plus grip screws and plate screws too long. The trigger didn’t ride smoothly in its channel and shoe opening. The mag release was rubbing on the untrimmed plastic. The grip screws were leaving marks on the mags and a plate screw was pressing on the extractor. The Prodigy seems like a project gun but that’s not a bad thing if you know how to deal with the issues and understand what you’re getting.
  2. Over-tight chamber is one of my least favorite things.
  3. Tighter fit helps with accuracy, especially barrel-slide fit.
  4. I would think tuning the load and recoil spring for 4.25” vs 5” to get the flattest shooting would be a little different. Some guys have such good grips that they shoot most everything flat once they get a feel for their gun/load combo. But it’s nice to make it as easy as possible.
  5. Good to know 1.140 works for the Prodigy. The loads I use for a PM-9 and a Glock are that length and I’m considering getting a Prodigy.
  6. If the build doesn’t have big flaws like bad barrel-slide fit, and if the gun is reliable out of the box or can easily be made so, then it comes down to ergonomics and trigger refinement. Seems many mid-range 2011 shooters figured it all out and are doing well without having to struggle with malfunctions.
  7. The Atlas X-Line triggers seem a good choice because you can order short, medium or long and then fine tune the length because the bow and shoe are threaded, allowing small length adjustments. I’m considering buying a Prodigy and this is the trigger I would install.
  8. Still ok with irons except in low lighting during evening practice matches. Next gun will have an optic, thinking Athena with an SRO.
  9. Can anyone recommend a solid holster/hanger that will work for an Atlas Nemesis? I really like the Boss hanger for 1911 and want a similar setup for 2011. Thanks!
  10. Now I’m using Dawson/Metalform mag bodies with Tripp followers and springs. The Dawson springs are about one coil too long - they were causing occasional inertia feeds. One could clip off a coil and it would probably work great. I went the route of combining mag components that I know give the function I need.
  11. Yah the compensator sticks out a bit more than the sight block. Also no iron sights on the Erebus.
  12. I’m jelly of your Artemis.Enjoy! AGW guns are incredible.
  13. It’s a tough call between the Artemis and the Athena. If you know the sight block is your thing, then Artemis. You get a 0.4” greater sight radius with the Artemis if you’re using irons in Limited. If using an optic (LO), the difference is more front-end weight in the Artemis. Overall weight is just about the same. Price difference is $1,100 more for the Artemis.
  14. No history of Limited Optics as an official division (Limited, yes, if that’s what you’re thinking of) in big matches so I don’t know what you’re basing your statistic on.
  15. At tonight’s practice match, I had the confidence to let it rip after sorting out some magazine issues. I feel like now I can get back to my 2018-level match performances.
  16. The ability to use a slide racker and a thumbrest in LO means the only advantages in Open over LO is a comp and a frame-mounted optic versus a slide-mounted optic, plus the ability to shoot major in Open. Those who can get their LO gun to shoot really flat and are very accurate at speed should be getting hit factors very close to the Open guys.
  17. The desire to own higher end guns isn’t necessarily driven by the idea that we’ll score better with them. We’re on this earth but a short time and the itch to experience the finer things is common to many. There is some satisfaction in making a good showing with a less expensive gun, knowing your shooting skill is what really did the job, but it’s also satisfying to shoot a gun that makes exercising your skill easier and more enjoyable.
  18. I agree with the opinion that the 1911/2011 guns aren’t that hard to learn, maintain and work on. If you shift your mindset just a bit and open yourself to the enjoyment of learning the mechanical aspects of these guns, you might catch yourself having a jolly old time.
  19. Here is a link to the video. I think he is only speaking in context of the Prodigy. And maybe now they’re shipping better mags, I wouldn’t know. https://youtu.be/ZG_WNaqJgsY?si=GIyfDU316rIZ-yGj
  20. Steel has the density to contribute decent recoil absorption. It’s also a pretty easy material to work with. Aluminum has its place but I’ve never enjoyed cutting it.
  21. Definitely. Aluminum is stiff and efficiently transfers recoil into the bones. That’s my perception from the aluminum frame CZ P-01 I owned.
  22. I own one Atlas and find the quality to be superb. 100% reliable function and a pleasure to shoot. For future guns, such as if I decide I want to join in the Limited Optics reindeer games, I might very well go with a Prodigy and take care of the mag issues with aftermarket parts (recently listed in a different thread). I’ve had great experiences with mid range guns that needed only ergonomic changes to satisfy me, and which proved rock solid through many matches and lots of practice shooting. I got the Atlas mostly because I wanted the experience of shooting a supposedly high end gun, partly out of curiosity to see if I’d find it worth the price. And honestly I don’t mind the “Ooo, an Atlas huh” when people see it in my holster. The gun has never let me down and it has cool features, but I’m comfortable exploring the mid to mid-high priced guns and getting them to work 100% if they don’t out of the box.
  23. Copied and pasted that from notes I took while watching a YouTube video last night. Apologies for the giant font.
  24. Replace mag springs, followers with ones from Grams Engineering Grams Spring/Follower Kit V2 11 Coil STI/SV Add spacer from Dawson or another source https://www.speedshooter.com/product/taran-tactical-magazine-spacer/
