  1. To avoid MSH tilt, realized the MSH bottom needs to allow the Dawson magwell to slide back in a straight line while riding the bottom of the frame (the gun's built-in magwell). It wasn't. The Dawson magwell was bumping into the MSH so I removed material from the MSH bottom until the Dawson magwell could slide all the way back. Now the MSH does not tilt when tightening down the magwell screw. This did the trick, Dawson magwell is solidly seated and hammer fall is consistent.
  2. I have put the Dawson Ice MSH+Magwell on four guns with no issues. One of my newer guns, though, developed an issue after about 40 shots shortly after installing the Dawson Ice MSH+Magwell. The issue was that the hammer would not fall at all, or it would fall to half-cock. Looking under magnification at home, I saw that the top edges of MSH hole where the mainspring lives looked a little chewed up. This gun's hammer strut has some squared off edges, not rounded toward the bottom like a lot of others. So those steel edges not quite clearing - but instead rubbing on - the aluminum MSH caused some burrs that apparently made the strut hang up. The issue manifested when the magwell was snugged down. I only once saw the issue with the magwell loosened. Apparently the snugging up just slightly tilted the MSH even though one might think the pin and tongue-in-groove interface would prevent all tilting, but not entirely. The tiniest amount of tilt brought some newly formed aluminium burrs into contact with the strut, causing hangup. The solution is pretty obvious, I'll post again after I have resolved the issue. Haven't heard of this exact issue so hope it will serve as a reference for anyone who encounters it in the future.
  3. If by "trigger pull" you include not moving the gun during it, then I agree. Newer shooters who haven't gotten much into speed AND accuracy yet still labor under the idea that they have to WAIT until they see that perfect sight picture. Once they get that beautiful sight picture, they move the gun as they press the trigger, often because they haven't worked through their tendency to flinch yet. Meanwhile the shooters with more experience have let off three shots into the target's center.
  4. Looks like Keanu has improved with the handgun over an earlier video I saw.
  5. This, as far as the guns being the same except for grip color so I can tell them apart at a glance. My two newest guns, I ordered at the same time specifically for the purpose of having a backup. Not sure yet if they will have different roles as far as matches and practice. I'll let the guns tell me what they want to do.
  6. It's your call of course but I think for a 1911 newb, time and energy invested in shooting technique is more helpful than a new barrel bushing, for the sake of accuracy and everything else. When you can consistently draw and put two in the A zone at 25 yards in around 2.0 seconds (your RO is up to the task, but are you?), maybe you'll want to start thinking about things like a new barrel bushing.
  7. Along with the mag wells, I ordered two sets of Techwell "aggressive" and like them a lot. I am not aware of any other manufacturers that have the cut for Techwell magwells other than Techwell.
  8. Started at 56. Sixty now and still improving.
  9. Matt McLearn is not in AZ any more. He moved to Ohio.
  10. Here in AZ we've had 8 months of very mild weather. Longest cool season since I moved to the Phoenix area 29 years ago. Never saw so much snow here, either. Probably won't again before I croak.
  11. A lubrication company dedicated solely to firearms that refines oil straight from the ground -- don't think there is any business case for doing that. Question is, WHAT products/ingredients does Steel Shield / Weapon Shield (or any company) blend together? Do they make sense for guns? Do they do what they claim to do? Overpriced? Heck yes. I have run most of my guns on the same 1-gallon jug of automatic transmission fluid for the last 10 years (I keep a big ziploc bag full of ATF-soaked patches handy), and about two-thirds of a 1-quart bottle of Mobil 1. Very inexpensive stuff, and it works fantastic and goes a long way. Non-toxic? Don't think so. I wash my hands thoroughly after using it, or I wear nitrile gloves.
  12. CSEMARTIN, I know some guns are mechanically much more accurate than others. I think no one here would debate that. I firmly believe, though, that we fallible humans introduce much more inconsistency into the accuracy picture than the guns do. Most of us shoot guns that mechanically vary by less than 3 inches at the longest distances we shoot in our matches. Yes that's enough to give us misses on rare occasions but almost all misses we see on the competition range are human error.
  13. I believe this is not the case with Weapon Shield.
  14. Mobil 1, ATF, Weapon Shield CLP and/or grease -- all good. I stay away from Breakfree CLP. I have a couple of unused cans.
  15. Very nice idea. My approach was to take phone pics of all the stages at my range, then show them on my large family room TV at home for dry fire practice. At a glance your pic above looks good. I'm comparing it to one of the real life stage pictures on my phone.
  16. Max is essentially a machine.
  17. Super mullet -- the timeless hairstyle, and so practical.
  18. You know better, Jack my fine gentleman. It's us, not the guns.
  19. Not moving the gun as you press the trigger, however it is you make that happen. Breathe heavily. Do a River Dance. Wobble your knees. Wiggle your toes. Slap the trigger. All fine as long as the gun does not move during trigger press.
  20. Picked up the two PM9's yesterday. I field-stripped them and had a look, all I had time for. One of them has a tiny ding in the disconnector head where the underside of the slide hits it, causing a mild hangup. This can be cleaned up in short order without reducing the height of the disco. Other than that, the guns appear to be top shelf in every way. I'll know much more about them after I've shot them, detail stripped them and had a magnified look at everything.
  21. How much better can one be than world and national champion?
  22. He is a guy who is big on building a great shooting grip. His really is great.
  23. Automatic transmission fluid, synthetic motor oil, Weapon Shield CLP in descending order of quantities I've used. I still get a laugh when I see someone is horrified that I use automotive lubrication products on my guns.
