  4. Disclaimer: I realize I’m probably overthinking the hell out of this and trying to fiddle too much. I used to shoot IDPA pretty heavily and got out of it for a few years. I’ve recently gotten back into it, and hope to start hitting major matches again next year (hopefully Nationals too). I also bought my first IDPA revolver, a S&W 625JM 4”. That’s what I plan on competing with for the next year. I’m trying to develop a load for it. I ordered 2k plated 230gr bullets from Xtreme (mix of RN and JHP). I’ve read forums on what powders other use, and I can’t seem to get a consensus (surprise, surprise). I’ve read a ton on manufacturer’s websites and am having trouble narrowing it down. Instead of asking, “What should I use and why?”, I’m going to approach it from a different angle. I’m going to list the powders I’ve identified as potential, and I want to know “Why NOT?” In other words, why not use ____ powder? The parameters are that this will be almost exclusively shot out of a 625JM, almost exclusively with plated 230gr projectiles (at least for now), and almost exclusively for IDPA competition/practice, so a power factor of 155. Which means I need at least 674fps out of it, but not much more. Thank you in advance! 5. Uhhh, not sure I can find a holster for that.
  6. Well, bought a 625JM. It hasn’t even arrived yet and I’ve already ordered a holster, moon clips, moon clip holders, 230RN bullets, and Wilson Combat springs. Probably ordering G10-type grips today. Anybody have sights they recommend? Most of my competition guns have Dawson Precision.
  7. That leads me to my next questions. Where do I find aftermarket parts?? Holsters? Etc. I’ve shot mostly Glocks and there are a TON of places and things to buy to tune a Glock. I’m having a really hard time finding aftermarket stuff and holsters for revolvers. Maybe there just isn’t much? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Why is your 686 cut for moon clips if you’re not using moon clips? If you’re going to use speed loaders, why not go with a Model 66 or 67? I’ve come to the realization that I will most likely end up with at least two revolvers. But I want to start with one, otherwise my ADD will go crazy and I’ll just be average at both. Everybody keeps saying get the 625 JM and not the 625 PC. What’s the issue with the PC?
  9. It sounds like that's the way I'm leaning.
  10. It’s an 8 shot. I want/need 6. Plus it’s a 5” barrel. It needs to be 4.25” or less. But it looks pretty cool. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I haven’t, but only because I don’t know anything about it. I’ll take a look. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Thanks for all the input. I don’t feel any closer to a decision, but at least I’m more informed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Wow! I did look for a 646, all around $1700. I don’t mind spending that much on a gun if I’m going to get a return on the clock. I doubt I’ll get $700-900 worth of return. But building your own???
  14. I’m confident that I can get fast with either type of reload method, but I’ve never tried to run a revolver on the clock. I guess it sounds more like it’s preference. When I first got into IDPA and shooting SSP (for example), you could shoot what you wanted, but the guys winning were shooting Glocks. So I started shooting Glocks. These days M&P’s and CZ’s and XD’s are competitive in that division. In asking the question, I was trying to figure out which was more competitive. A guy that I respect and has been shooting a very long time was all about .38 and speeoaders, all day long. But people like Jerry Miculek are running clips. I guess since they are different divisions that part doesn’t matter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Hi everyone, I want to shoot revolver in IDPA. Which direction should I go? Do I go moon clips or speed loaders? S&W 66? 67? 686? 625? I’ve shot a lot of IDPA, but all bottom feeders. Not really concerned about price, just curious what’s the most common, and the fastest. Thanks!
  16. I couldn't agree more!!! That's what I wanted to see. One question bsdubois00 (well, two actually): Is it pretty heavy on the brim of your hat? Do you think it will slide around due to the weight once you start moving, like in a match? And Father's Day is just around the corner........
  17. Awesome, I can't wait to see what the video looks like while shooting a match, since I won't be hunting with it. My secondary concern is that the frames per second will be fast enough to capture transitions. I guess we shall see.
  18. Thanks for the video link. The Rhino would sit closer to the sights, and it is adjustable (left or right) depending on what you're shooting. Sight line is one of the things I would be worried about too. I'd love to find somebody that's used one for competition.
  19. The problem with putting a G17 factory length mag catch is that now you have to change your grip to do a mag change unless you have REALLY long fingers. It's good to hear about this kind of stuff and maybe lay it in he box 'lefty' style to keep this from happening in the heat of the beep.
  20. It's like riding a bike....or a crack habit, whichever.
