Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I assumed that that the slower powders would give less kick. I am ussing AA#5 with 155 gr Speers. I Have a boatload of ranier 135 gr. which I have not loaded yet. Is it rue that a faster powder could give less kick than what I am using? These are basic newbie questions. I just thought that faster powders would give more kick, and be less controllable. any input welcome: regarding burn rate VS, kick in 40
  2. I have data for ranier 135 tcj. It should be similar, as long as you keep the correct OAL (Experienced reloaders, please correct me if I am wrong).I am new to reloading. (actually reloaded and my first set today. I still have all of my fingers, so i guess I was somewhat succesfull ) I was shooting speer 155 with 6.9 gr AA No.5. It was much more controllable than the Wal Mart Winchester 165 I have been shooting out of my Springfield XD 40 5". Avg vel of 850 fps. Smooth. Anyway, I don't remember where I found this info, but here it is: RAN 135 TCJ min AA GR fps 2 6.1 1103 5 9.0 1160 7 10.6 1153 9 14.4 1232 RAN 135 TCJ max 2 6.8 1253 5 10.0 7 11.8 9 16.0 It appears that I am missing max vel. I probably omitted because I am also working min production loads. PS If anybody else has some good production 40 loads (light bullets, slower powders), let us know. Kevin
  3. I just purchased a new chrono with the cabellas gift certificate i got for chrismass. Looking forward to using it.
  4. Thanks folks, for the good advice. My club does have a chrono I can use, and now I plan on using it. I don't plan on working up heavy loads though. I just want light loads for minor production division. Just some background: I shot USPSA for the first time this year and am hooked. I even joined. My uncle stopped reloading a few years ago, so he sent me his 550B with all accesories. I've been doing lots of research on reloading before I make my first rounds. Thanks again
  5. I have a "hand me down" 550B which I will use this summer to make some light .40 loads. When looking at the data charts, I wonder how much of a difference it makes who is making the bullet, and what type it is. It is hard to find the exact charts for manufacturers bullets and specific powder types. So here is the big question: CAN I USE ANYBODY'S BULLET GRAIN DATA FOR A CERTAIN POWDER? ie: if using ranier 155tcj, can I use winchester 155 lrn data to load it? I don't have access to a chrono. thanks
  6. Yes, this explains the IPSC reason for not allowing the XD. It is valid and reasonable and logical. But what I was pointing out is that when the USPSA changed the DA first shot rule, I was then allowed to compete with my XD. Before the rule change, I was not allowed to use the XD by the same logic. IPSC did not change the rule, so it is still not allowed for IPSC. USPSA changed the rule, and it is now allowed. See the connection? If the rule didn't change, I would not be allowed to use it. I think Springfield did some major policitcal hob-nobbing with the USPSA, to my benefit. But I think, again, that it is in the best interest of the sport because it is a coevolution of rules and technology.
  7. One good reason for changing the rule is so that I can compete with my Springfield XD. If a round is chambered, then the trigger will be SA. The evolution of the rules is a coevolution with the technology. I believe this is why the XD is not allowed in IPSC, They didn't change the SA/DA rule.
