  1. Emailed C&S asking the question. They replied that yes it does fit Springfield 9mm 1911. Ordered one at Midway on backorder. Looks like it will cost $10 toe $15 more than from C&S but C&S does allow backorder.
  2. Thanks for the replies. I have to give c&s a call. 90% of my use for a 45 acp 1911 is Cowboy Wildbunch shooting. Ambi mag release is not allowed. I do like the right side release on my M&P 40.
  3. I am planning to get a Cylinder & Slide Ambidextrous Magazine Release 1911 and want to put it on my 1911 9mm Springfield. I have small hands and just found out what can be done with a right hand magazine release. Does anyone know if it will fit I like to shoot to do Single Stack. I have already changed to a right hand magazine release on my M&P 40 Pro. I am right handed. I push with my middle finger and do not have to reach across the grip. My mag changes have gotten faster and with more control. I shoot Limited with this handgun.
  4. Thank you. I was looking for this manual for my timer which I had lost or is missing. Been looking for days. Searching the internet. Then remembered this BB.
  5. Hooray! Finally shot a 5 shot sub moa group! I notified local news and the AP news service, but the story did not appear on TV or the newspaper. It was a 52 grain Hornady Amax with 21.5 grains of Win748. It was my last five bullets. I had to order 200 more, put on backorder from Brownells. Shipping was $14. How much of that gets into Brownells pocket, tax free. OK, that's sour grapes. And Brownell's lets you put items on backorder.
  6. Not happy with this rifle. Back from the range. Loads were mid range power loads. 55 grain and 65 grain bullets. By mid range power loads, i mean the loads were at the middle of the min and max of load in Hornandy and Lyman manuals. The results were not good. I can get a sub minute of angle 3 shot group. The problem is, I have to shoot 10 times and take the closest together 3 shots.
  7. I made some dummy rounds. They were short. But they fed ok when I worked the slide. I checked some of the rounds that I was shooting. They were a little short. Most were gone. I think it was the flat point. I have just replaced the recoil spring with a 15 lb. spring. I was using a 13 lb spring. The "delay" thing was more pronounced with the 13 lb spring. I was focused in on a lube problem. Wrong again. I will keep a closer watch on the length. Thanks again. Shot a club match last weekend. No "delay". Used batch that was 1.125 inches OAL. Had a double feed that destroyed one course of fire. All the rest of the stages were great, except for the classifier, that I won't talk about. It was all me that did bad, can't blame the M&P.
  8. Thanks for the replies. I will do some of that checking. A friend sold me some Rainier bullets real cheap. They are flat points I do not like them but remember the cheap part. Plus buying bullets now is the pits. Doesn't happen with the 9mm where I use round nose, and has never happened. The brain thing has merit. It was a short fast course of fire and I was trying to shoot as fast as I could not caring if I missed. My time, when I felt the "delay", was 2.5 seconds faster than the second time thru.
  9. I shoot limited with a M&P 40 Pro. Often when cycling I get a delayed feel. When this has happened during a match I use Hornady One Shot and the problem seems to go away. Last night I attended a indoor practiced session. The handgun had just been cleaned and oiled with Wilson oil. I had field stripped the handgun. It was a 26 shot course of fire and this "delay" ocurred when the M&P cycled 4 or 5 times. The was no failure to feed or failure to fire. The second time thru the COF the "delay" did not ocurr. Does anyone have an idea what this is? I checked the striker block by pushing it up and down when cleaning. This "delay" can get bad enough to effect concentration. I don't know another way to describe this. Help, please P.S. I have a 9mm M&P Pro that has never had this problem. Used it for Limited and Production.
  10. I searched the forums and found someone who had the above rifle and had adjusted the trigger. The gentleman too, had a glob covering the adjustment screws. I removed the glob and lightened the trigger pull to 3.7 lbs from 4.7 lbs. I don't think much of FN USA assembly. It looks like the assembler screwed the adjustment screw all the way down and backed it off until the trigger would pull. The manual said the trigger pull was suppose to be 3.5, but it was 4.7. Maximum is 5 lbs. These people are not shooter friendly.
  11. I did not know that. Thanks. What reloadable caliber is smaller that a .223?
  12. It has been my experience that you can run into trouble if you use a necked size die to load a round not shot previously in a rifle. I have tried to put a round into a new 25-06 that was not shot in it and jammed that round and had to have a gunsmith remove it. Won't do that again, I just bought a Hornady Neck size .223. I have a new FN XTP bolt rifle I am trying to get to shoot. (I do not call 2 to 4 inch groups shooting. ) For the Bushmaster Varmiter I have, I use a RCBS small base die. I get my minute of angle groups with the Bushmaster. I'm not sure what you mean by "remove the decapping pin" Some of my old Hornady dies had the expander and the decapping pin as a unit. The pin could not be separated. I have replaced those with a kit from Hornady
  13. In the owners manual for the above bolt rifle FNH states the trigger can be adjusted. But they give no instructions about it or even how to remove the barreled action for cleaning. FNH USA states the trigger can be adjusted from 3 to 5 lbs and is factory set at 3.5 lbs. Mine is at 4.7 lbs. and groups are at 2 to 3 inches at 100 yards. I have only 75 rounds through the rifle so will not go into accuracy except to say I wish I had bought a Ruger as my friends's shot minute of angle right out of the box. The rifle is a duplicate of the Winchester Model 70. I used Winchester's manual from the Winchester site. Browning, Winchester and FNH USA are basically the same company. Phones for all are answered in Arnold, Missouri. The trigger adjustment screws for the FNH are covered with some kind of plastic glue. It is a hard plastic like substance. It did not pry off easily so I left it alone. Do I have a used rifle? I called both FNH USA and Winchester and they are off for Good Friday. Does anyone own this rifle and have you adjusted the trigger? Have you seen this "glue" on your rifle? Any info would be appreciated, Except for the accuracy and the trigger I like the rifle. Is that an oxcymoron? Like saying, except for the taste I like dirt.
  14. Can I sue Punxsutawney Phil. On 2 Feb he said early spring. They are predicting 4 to 8 inches of snow here. I do have H335 and 52 grain bullets. They are Hornady though. I will try that load. When the snow goes. I will also take apart and clean the action. I am using a new Burris 6.5 X 20 Fullfield scope. How do I tell if it is broken. New Rings too. Finished cartridge is 2.260. Once fired brass with length 1.750, some at 1.749. Mixed but all .223 Rem. Yes, I have used factory ammo. Factory gives about a 3 to 4 inch groups. These are the best groups I have had.. I can shoot a 3 or 5 shot minute of angle group with my handloads. My Bushmaster Varminter has it happen from time to time, not every time. No, I have never shot a minute of angle 10 shot group. That is way too much work. Gentlemen, thank you for the replies. You have given me something to do and hope.
  15. Read instructions in manual for third time. Got it to feed. Snow on ground. No solution to idiot groups.
  16. I went to the rangte today. I used 69 grain HPBT. The 5 shots were in a 6 inch circle. I shot 55 grain Remington PMC. They were in a 4 inch circle. The distance was 100 yards. I have to check the rifle over. I was so mad I ran some patches thru it and put it up. I get at least one minute of angle at 100 yards with my Bushmaster Varmiter with those same loads and the Remington bullets. . The rifle won't feed and it won't shoot.Thank you for the reply.
  17. Help! Please! I got a new FN TSR XP in .223. (Google TSR XP will display the rifle) it is a bolt rifle with a heavy 20 inch barrel. One can feed a singe round into it, but cycling thru fails The rifle will not cycle. The tip of the bullet slams into the frame just below the feed ramp. I have tried fast, slow and in between. Do it fast enough and the tip of the bullet is damaged. Nothing works. I have tried stretching the leaf spring pushing the follower. Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone have this rifle? Not happy with rifle. Groups suck. I think the bullets were close enough to be a group. But that was a lot my fault. I found I made a mistake mounting the scope. Working on it. The rifle has a 1:9 twist. Will 55 grain bullets group at all. I have loaded some 69 grain rounds and will try them as soon as I can. It gets cold in Missouri.
  18. This has got to be a bad joke. I sent S&W an email a year ago when i found out my 40 Pro was not Production approved. The sales division emailed back it was't their job. Clever solution. I have a 9mm Pro I shoot in production and may add a magwell to shoot in Limited. I haven't decided if it will be the 40 or the 9mm. I have ordered the Easy Fit magwell so I can use stock magazines. I just play at USPSA and don't want to pay the money for expensive magazine extensions. So I don't really have an iron in this fire, but I would like to know why the 40 is not approved for Production. I do not believe they (S&W) have not sold the required amount.
  19. I got good news and bad news and bad news. The good news is I found stuff. The bad news is the stuff. I checked everything. I resized and put the case thru my guage. Same as before. I checked that the ram was putting the shell holder up against the sizer die. I resized again. It is a Lee turret press. I found the shellholder was 1/8 inch from the die. So I set up the die in my RCBS Rock Crusher. Since these were primed cases, I took out the decapping unit. It was bent at a 60 degree angle. The RCBS press resizes to the top of the stroke. I will check the trim on these cases. I'll post the results. Still haven't found out why the extraction failure.
  20. As stated, I use a small base RCBS sizer die. It is a full length die. It does not make sense to have a small base neck die. I seat and crimp the bullet is two different operations using a Lee crimp die. The brass is once fired law enforcement bras that I have removed the crimp from the primmer pocket. I did not trim. I will inspect and measure the cartridges and brass. I used a gauge for the sized brass. I will check again. Thank you for the replies
  21. I use a RCBS small base resize die for .223 Rem reloads. I have a DPMS flattop carbine upper in 5.52 Nato and a Bushmaster Varmiter in .223 Rem. The DPMS has no dust cover and no forward assist. (I'm cheap) I have fired 100 or so reloaded rounds out of both uppers at the range sighting in the rifle. At my first 3 Gun match, the .223 Rem failed to seat and lock up in the DPMS carbine. I could not extract them. They let me switch to the Bushmaster upper & continue the other stages. The Bushmaster Varmiter has a small chamber, it is accurate. I was using the same ammution as before. It lasted for one stage. On the second stage at the end, I could not get the last case to extract. Any suggestions on what is going on??? To reiterate, the reloads I have been shooting in both uppers worked fine at the range, but at the competition - wouldn't go in, wouldn't come out. Everybody else had no problems with their AR15s.
  22. I tried it and I have a great big smile. Yes, I could only get 8 pellets in the shell and have everything go together. I have AA hulls and pink wads for one oz of shot. I stuffed a couple of 45-70 bullets upside down into a case to tamper the shot in place. They fed in my Mosberg 930. I did not need a filler card. A friend gave me some WAA wads, (off brand but I have used them before) and I could get 9 pellets in. They loaded easily into my SXS cowboy gun. I will shoot them next trip to the range. This is kinda an FYI post so I'll include the facts that my MEC jr is set up for Cowboy loads. I use 1 1/8 oz or 1 oz shot. I add a couple of card wads I cut out so the 1 oz shot will fit and crimp well. The 1 1/8 oz fits & crimps well. I use a size 18 bushing with Titegroup. These birdshot loads are milder than Remington All Purpose loads and a little milder than Remington club loads. I don't know how much buckshot loads I will be shooting. It may be cheaper to get some factory shot rather than buying a mold.
  23. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! That's what I'm talking about. I did the math and realized the black powder lead balls were more expensive, by far, than the 5 lbs of Hornady 00 buckshot. I ordered 5 lbs to try out. The link given by Coleman for factory buckshot is appreciated. That is a better price than Midwayusa. The second link from Lonely Raven answered a bunch of questions. The biggest being was how good was the Lee die. Plus a lot of detail on what casting lead shot is all about. If I order a mold it will be the Sharpshooter mold. Thanks again.
  24. I would like to shoot a 3 gun match this year. I got a tactical shotgun. It is a blast to shoot. Pun intened. First shotgun I owned that I could hit at 50 yards with a hunting slug. There is some info on the net about handloading 00 buckshot and slugs. It appears, that for buckshot, you can use loads for birdshot, by simply using the same weight buckshot. Turns out 9 pellets of 00 buckshot weights a little less than 1 1/8 oz. I am not trying for a self-defense load but a practice load. So here is the question: Hornady sells 100 lead balls for black powder shooting that is .32 caliber with a diameter of .310. There is a .315 diameter. I can get these locally. Can I use them? I may get a Lee mold for 00 buckshot or one for 000 buckshot. I want to know what the problems are???
  25. I have ordered 2 lbs if AA #5. Just to try it out. I cowboy shoot so for 45 colt, 45 schofield and 38 special I mainly use Trail Boss. This thread was posted in the 44/45 forum because it is the 45 acp that is a concern. I am sticking with Win 231. Gotta stay with what works.
