  1. I've posted on this topic before -- after running reliably for about 2000 rds, I'm having FTEs again. I've already replaced the extractor spring with the extra power spring and it worked fine up until this past weekend at Area 7. Not really sure where to go from here. I'm going to try and change the extractor out -- any other suggestions?
  2. I use Titegroup with the 185 grain Precision bullets -- My load is: 4.3 gr of Titegroup @ 1.125 OAL. What I've found though and I have videos as evidence lol Titegroup is EXTREMELY SMOKEY with poly coated bullets. I used to utilize 180 ZEROs (JHP) and never had a problem with the smokey load. But now it looks like I'm shooting a musket. I'm working with some fellow shooters to change my powder.
  3. Yeah it was right when I hit 2500 rounds.
  4. I never had a problem. I used to run JHP 180 grain zeros through my CTS. Always ran reliably.
  5. I've been messing around with try to shoot with both eyes open lately, but I have been having major problems following the front sight. I've got bigger problems to solve first -- like accuracy, because apparently that's important
  6. I agree with you somewhat and I have thought about that before. Personally, I go to the area matches for competition. I think local matches are good, but going to area matches lets me see where I stand against a larger pool of people. It also gives me the opportunity to see shooters I normally would not see. Anyone can be the man at local match if you practice enough, but going to an area match really lets you know where you stand. On the other hand -- I'm against allowing anyone to go to Nationals. I thought that was point of needing an "invite" from a club to go.
  7. I don't know where I read this recently, I think it was in the Front Sight that highlighted nationals. I'll need to double check but I think they said one of the reasons they do it is for marketing and PR purposes. It's easier to have all the big time shooters that will attract attention in one squad so people don't have to walk from squad to squad for each individual. I'll have to double-check where I read that. As far as being fair, I don't think it makes that much of a difference. If you're good enough to beat them, you're going to beat them. And if you're good enough to beat them, most likely you're going to be on the SS. I think there's advantages and disadvantages. Really the only advantage I can think of is that you can share stage breakdowns, but at the end of the day if you're not good enough to compete with them on the shooting aspect of the sport, you could be the Albert Einstein of breaking down stages and it's not going to make a difference. Thats my opinion.
  8. Finally got the baby running! I trimmed a coil and a half off the extra power extractor spring from CZC. I left the 14# recoil spring in the gun. I did a few Bill Drills and ran some mock stages and there were no feeding issues or failures to extract. We'll see what happens at the next match. Thanks for everyones feedback!!
  9. I shoot a CZ CTS and I love it. I haven't seen anyone else with it around here. Wouldn't trade it for anything.
  10. Hahaha I feel your pain this gun has run flawlessly since I got it and this has been a nightmare. Thanks for the feedback!
  11. Offshore -- I'm having the same EXACT problem. Maybe the factory springs wear out after a while -- I'm going to order another one tonight, see if that fixes it. I'm also going to try cutting a rung off the extra power spring.
  12. Worked with a shooting buddy of mine to replace the extractor spring on my CTS with the "extra power" spring. I was having extractor issues with the factory spring. After firing a round the extractor would scrape off the brass and leave it in the chamber. Its weird because it happens only after firing the first round and it's not specific to one type of brass. It's clearly grabbing the brass because it leaves a nice little mark on the brass where it went to grab. We inspected the extractor and it looked fine -- the spring was a b**tch to get in. Not a lot of give. Has any one done this replacement before? Did it need to be trimmed when you made the change? Was the issue corrected?
  13. Not up until last night I was kind of just going through my own routine and working on what I felt was necessary or lacking. A buddy of mine lent me Saul Kirsch's and Steve Anderson's books. So I'm going to be putting together a routine based on a hybrid of those books together. I just joined a range, so I'm going to try and get out to the range atleast once a week, even if its only to shoot a 100 rounds. The indoor range is 24/7 so if I can't to the outdoor range, atleast I can work on some accuracy indoors. I'm also shooting 2-3 matches a month. I've been dryfiring every night -- at most 40 mins. a night. Hopefully this does the job.
  14. The deltas most definitely are a killer. When I first started shooting last year, I never understood why people said "a delta is like a miss." I was always like "but you didn't miss." They'll kill you in the final standings. Up until a couple of months ago I had a case of the "itis." The "MIKE-itis" that is I was shooting without even really seeing the front sights. I've cleaned that up MAJORLY in the past couple of matches -- now I just need to work on the accuracy. I'm trying to take one step at a time. I want to clean-up the poor mental mistakes and the accuracy next. I think that will kick up my scores and move me up in the final results. I still don't think I'm moving at full speed -- for some reason there's always that hesitation. I think it's more mental than anything else. I think its a fear that if I kick up full notch to move from one position to the next, I might forget to do something in between. Area 8 in August is my goal to get EVERYTHING ironed out. When I say everything I mean stage breakdown, transitions, moving at 100% speed, accuracy down pat, and all gun issues ironed out. I think I've made some good progress the past couple of months but it could've been a lot better. I want to go there shooting my best. I know that it'll be tough to finish in the upper echelon given the talent and experience that goes down there, but I want to make an impact atleast. I want to atleast make a run for it. That'll set me up even better for Area 7.
  15. I see myself as more of a slow shooter fast mover -- but I still think I can move a lot faster than my videos show. Shot another match this past Saturday, felt like I did well -- still a lot I need to work on. Alot of mental mistakes which is just lazy and frustrating (e.g. shooting the gun dry or lazy unfocused reloads). The stages at the match were pretty simple and straight foward, not a lot of stage planning which was disappointing because that is something I wanted to work on based on Cha-Lee's feedback. I did drop A LOT of points by hitting deltas and all the deltas were low. I mustve had at least 10 through 5 stages and a few (3) mikes. I went out to the range Sunday to figure out what the hell I was doing wrong. I ran a couple of drills and realized I was still hitting low. I stopped and put single shots down range aiming for the alpha (head)zone. They were all hitting in the bravo or charlie zone. I realized that I had a case of the flinchys on the trigger pull. I focused on clean trigger pulls and BOOM i was hitting right in alpha on the head. It was my first "A HA" moment in shooting without a master class shooter telling me what I was doing wrong. I haven't seen the scores yet, but I guarantee all the points I dropped in the match will make a HUGE difference. Videos will be up soon.
  16. Every ounce slows you down. I'll take more weight in my wallet any day of the week
  17. That was some awesome shooting. You can really mow down those TX stars -- please TEACH ME I'm not worthyyy
  18. This was an awesome post. During the short time I've been shooting -- I've found that if I don't acknowledge the adrenaline and control it -- I find myself moving a little too quick and taking shots before I have the sights. I just am not as smooth. Acknowledging and understanding the adrenaline is pumping and taking a deep breath helps me focus on what's in front of me.
  19. Without a doubt. I've started eating healthier and exercising more and it definitely makes a difference on match day. I run 2-3 miles every other day and try to limit my calorie intake. No weightlifting yet -- rather use that money on ammo I've found that I move a lot smoother on stages and at practice and I don't find myself out of breath on longer stages. Breathin heavy makes it just that much harder to line up those sights.
  20. Wow, glad to hear you're okay. Good to know for someone who started shooting last year.
  21. Bsquirrels - that'd be awesome, I appreciate that. I carry six mags now already so I think that should be enough. CZC is out of extractors, so I got to find them somewhere else. Any suggestions? CeeZer - definitely need those. Have to start assembling those also. This all stemmed from a bad dream I had the other night lol -- I've got issues if I'm dreaming about shooting lol
  22. My family has a vacation home in Myrtle Beach -- about 2 hrs away -- next year I'm definitely heading down and taking part in this! Heard nothing but good things.
  23. I couldn't find them anywhere -- I was looking for 180 gr and he said he was 3.5-4 weeks backordered. I went with Dave at Precision Bullets. You should check him out -- www.precisionbullets.com
  24. I was thinking about putting together a spare parts kit to lug around in the range bag -- I'm going to be shooting a lot more major matches this year and I don't want to get stuck at one of these matches without spare parts. I shoot a CZ CTS -- any recommendations on what I should include in this "goody bag" of back-up parts? Thanks!
