  1. Shawn Carlock's work is truly outstanding! Everything he works on works perfectly or he won't let it out of his shop until it does. I wouldn't consider anyone else to build or work on any firearm that I own. I highly recommend Shawn Carlock!

    Fresh Spring Pow

It sucks that after such a minimal regular season snowfall, we suddenly get dumped with fifty plus inches of extra wet nontypical snow. Good for the farmers, but not so good for us powder lovers (I didn't get any powder of any measurable depth this season). Oh well, better luck next season! By the way, Eric, is that a picture of Mt. Spokane or Silver Mountain? Wish I was there!
  3. I like that I am responsible for my own performance. All three of my hobbies are like that: skiing, fishing, shooting. I must not be a team player!
  4. Dropping into a sixteen foot super pipe for the first time and remembering my eight year old kid's advice " now just commit and spot your landing once you clear the lip of the pipe Dad, this will keep you from smashing your body on the deck!". I still am not comfortable with this! This was 100 more scarier than seven years of being an airborne infantryman! But then again, I am now forty not twenty. TL can relate to this: Hooking into a four pound Brown on the Madison with my 9' 4wt Loomis, #16 bead head soft hackle, and a 6x tippet! It was a drift worthy of a text book and I landed it! Very exciting!!! Hearing Pat Kelly yell at me "Now thats not D class shooting!" as I did well on a stage at the 1997 Cabinet Rifle and Pistol Assc. Fall IPSC Classic. I got second D class and was my first practical shooting trophy. Driving from Jackson, WY to Libbey, MT for the above mentioned match and back in a three day weekend. Not one of my smarter moves. But it did beat working! Throwing snowballs at a car in downtown Mannheim, FRG and having the two next cars immediately pull over and pile out approximately eight guys that wanted to pummel the crap out of me and my one compadre. Believe it or not , Lars and I kicked some ass! Not one of my prouder moments, but then again I was twenty one or twenty two and a little intoxicated, not forty!
  5. I hate that there is no snow and my local ski hill has been closed for about two weeks now. Where has winter gone? There should be another month and a half of spring skiing before I change games and pick up my blaster!
  6. My brother-in-law drags me out a couple times during the fall for futile attempts to slay the elusive rooster. We rarely have any success compared to when I was a kid (no dogs, not as much habitat) but still enjoy the walk though. I really enjoy chukar hunting in the morning and then catching the evening hatch on the South Fork of the Boise River. We call it cast and blast! Pretty cool, you hunt chukars once for fun and then again for revenge with all the climbing they make you do. It does tend to get one in shape for elk season though!

    February

Ten inches of fresh dry powder on Sunday! I think I love February!!!
  8. Any premium bourbon: Knob Creek, Maker's Mark, Jack Daniels Single Barrel, etc., in a rocks glass with two ice cubes. I'm not much of a scotch fan, thats a little too smooth for me.
  9. Today is historic! The US ski team members Bode Miller and Daron Rahlves finished 1st and 2nd respectively in the 3.2 km down hill race at the World Championships at Bormio, Italy. This is quite the accomplishment in a sport typically dominated by a strong Austrian ski team! Bode and Daron are truly studs!!!
  10. An update on the Novak sight. I e-mailed Novak sights and they promptly replied back. The very small screw on the left side is a safety screw that keeps the blade in place and prevents the loss of spring(s) inside. The only adjustment for elevation is made with the slot screw on the top and windage is adjusted via standard Novak style; by loosening the top hex head set screw and drifting the sight right or left manually.
  11. I just had a Novak adjustable rear sight put on my Springfield 1911A1. It appears very similar to the original Novak sight with the exception of a slot headed screw on top I assume is for elevation adjustment and a very small hex headed screw on the left side of the sight that I don't have the foggiest idea what is used for. Is anyone familiar with the proper operation of this particular sight? I would like to know about the very small hex head screw on the left sides purpose. Thanks in advance. Jeff Think Snow!!!
  12. I don't get to shoot matches as much as I would like, but when I do I try to get there a little early to help set up and stay a little late to help tear down. It seems like most people who shoot here in SW Idaho do the same. Our matches don't have masses of competitors but everyone seems to have pretty good time. And I really appreciate the effort Rich Redovian and Kelly Beale and others put into our little world of USPSA! They offer mentoring and advice to any and all who care to ask and are two of the nicest people I know. I love this sport and try to share it with all who are interested.

    Extruded Disc

When I saw this title, I thought it was referring to powders like Hogdon Clays, which I hate too!
  14. ima45dv8 has clued us into a valuable resource! I just purchased 2 meters of .030" fiber optic rod for $6.55 shipping included. It arrived a couple of days after I ordered it and it works fantastic! Sure beats paying Brownell's approximately $10 plus shipping for a mere 3 short pieces, plus Brownell's color selection is way weak compared to Fiber Optic Products many offerings. THANKS ima45dv8!!!
  15. So, do you think a 1/32" FO rod would tight enough in .040" rodway? I'm not very good with these fractional to decimal conversions!
  16. Shawn is cool and does appear to have rather firm buttocks, but I too am not attracted to him a sexual manner. Perhaps I should have perused the emoticons a little more carefully! I didn't mean to make anyone feel uncomfortable, this is a family friendly forum afterall! Back on track with the topic, what seem to be the standard diameters for FO front sights?
  17. I did a search on google and found a interesting page. http://www.oakridgehobbies.com/g_scale/g_90a.html It has various sizes and colors of acrylic fiber optic rods at very reasonable prices, perhaps I will order some and see if they fit the bill. Say hello to Shawn Carlock for me EricW!
  18. I have searched mutiple times with no luck. Does anyone know where one might aquire fiber optic rod of multiple sizes and colors for one's front sight? BENOS forums ROCK!!!
  19. I used to use a limited hemisphere, but sold it when I took a break from USPSA. Now, I use a Bladetech DOH and find it just as fast and a lot more secure!
  20. Well Titandriver, it's now the 29th of April and still no match results posted anywhere! I'm curious to see how well you did with that gray chopped model 35!

    Chiggers

Do you know how to identify the guy in Myrtle Beach as a paratrooper from Ft. Bragg? He's the one with no hair on his head, a third degree sunburn on his shoulders, and chigger bites all over his legs. He might also be inebriated. 82nd Airborne, the world's most physically fit drunks! HUAW!
  22. My first press was a Lee Loadmaster which I purchased from Midway. It worked fine for the first four thousand or so rounds, but everything went down hill from there! Pretty soon, I found myself doing voodoo rituals, like holding up and shakeing the primer feeding case/disk with my thumb as I cycled the handle on the down stroke. It was ludicrous, soon the aluminum ribs on the press body wore out and the press wouldn't automatically index without more voodoo antics! I suppose I got the $200 it cost initially out of it, but overall it was a pain in the ass, particularly the adjustable powder bar, which caused squib loads, especially with Hogden Clays (which meters like granite boulders, Ca Ca, IMHO)! I only load 45ACP, so might I suggest a Dillon SQB?! It hasn't failed me yet and requires no ritualistic contortions! After all was said and done, I traded the Lee for a brand new 10/22, I guess it was worth it, but I'm not exacty a big Ruger fan either! The old addage applies, you get what you pay for and blue is better than red!
  23. I don't know! We aren't shooting benchrest rifle matches, so do you really think brass makes that much difference? In my superstitious(I made the spelling of this word up) opinion, brand new brass is not work hardened enough to be considered reliable. If it cycles, it is good enough for me, but then I suck when it comes to "Action Pistol"!
  24. I am glad you were able to thank those young warriors in person! I think everyone should show a little appreciation to those who serve whenever they get the chance. A CIB and a fresh new patch on your right shoulder! Man, would it be cool to be 19 again or what!?
  25. LASIK is an area where you certainly get what you pay for. Be very skeptical of the clinics offering $299 per eye. I drove 5 hours to Salt Lake City for one such offer, only to find the clinic had all of the ambience and professionality (I just made this word up!) of a tatoo parlor on Victory Drive outside of Fort Benning. Needless to say I opted out with no regrets! This technology is constantly evolving, so the longer one can wait, the better ones results will be. I am still biding my time in soft lens contacts, maybe some day circumstances will force me to reconsider, but I definetly will not do business with the low bidder! (another lesson learned on Victory Drive outside of Fort Benning!)
