  1. Thanks ogiebb. I just spent the last hour going thru the forum and have found answers to several of my questions. I have yet to find conclusive reloading post but I will continue to search. The forum mentions several new style mags with different colored followers but doesn't mention if either the red or black function better. I'll keep digging and hopefully find something. Likely I'll order from Greg as it seems most have had a positive experience with him. I'm also wondering if it is a necessity to change out the mag springs, followers, and basepads or if this is simply just a preference for shooters? I'd like to replace my extended base pads but can not find stock pads online aside from stoeger. If that's the only alternative, I'll be making a stop to his site soon. Ogiebb, where did you find the Aluminum Tanfo pads? Henning only shows the extended versions.
  2. So, I've been shooting my Glock 17 and 34 in production for the longest and have just recently picked up a stock 2. I'd like to make it my primary production and 3-gun pistol and am getting ready to buy the necessary equipment. Before I do, I wanted to see what everyone else is running with their stock 2's. Looking at mags, it seems that the Mec-gars are the best alternative. Are y'all running these mags with the stock base pads and spring/followers? If so, are they all stock or did you have to modify them in any way to get them to run 100%? If not, what are you using and where did you buy them? I'm pretty sure the answer will be unianimous for this but is Bladetech the preferred holster for production? I'm used to keeping a parts kit for my guns to bring with me to matches. What do you guys keep in your range bag for spare parts? Do you run yours stock and, if not, what mods have you done to it? (Springs, trigger, sights, etc) Lastly, I've heard that these can be finicky with reloads. Currently, I'm running 3.4 Titegroup behind a plated 124 Rainier at an OAL of 1.135 (if I remember correctly). What are your pet reloads that you have found to run efficiently? Yeah, I know it's a bunch of questions but I haven't been able to find much about these guns on the forum and figured it best to just ask all of the questions here. I appreciate any insight that you guys can provide! Thanks! Oz
  3. BTW, if you do get your barrel bent, who are you going to have bend it?
  4. Hey Mitch..didn't realize that was you! I just got the hiviz set in the mail today so I'm going to zero tomorrow at RFG. If you're in the neighborhood, swing by and let's do some drills! I'm trying to have my gear squared away for this Saturday's match.
  5. Hey Boxerglocker, you ever get those sighted in? Looking at purchasing a set and would like to hear some reviews. Thanks!
  6. I also have this same problem. My birdshot is spot on but slugs are a foot high at 25 yards. Before swapping to the 22" barrel, the 18.5 spx barrel was POI with slugs. If there is a front sight that people are using to compensate for this, please advise. soterik, did you ever get this fixed?
  7. Hey everyone. I hate to revive an old post but I wanted to give an update so that if anyone has any issues similar to mine, they will have some good references on possible fixes. So, after changing every internal part in the gun (minus the striker channel) and creating various loads to eliminate the FTFs, it turns out that my brass was the culprit. Prior to reloading, I lightly coat my brass with One Shot. I have reloaded tens of thousands of 9mm without ever having to remove the lube and have never had any issues. Even when loading my 40 rounds, the coat of lube is unnoticeable and the brass looks clean. Although I hadn't heard of any issues with this since many actually keep the lube on, I figured I'd go ahead and tumble them again after reloading. Viola! This past weekend I shot a championship match in Eastern WA without a single hiccup! Over 260 flawless rounds (I wish I could have said the same about my shooting!). It seems that the lube was slowing down feeding from the magazine, causing the FTFs. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that something as simple as this has caused me issues over the last 5 years but would hate for anyone to have similar issues and have to go through what I did. To all that helped shed some light, a HUGE thanks! Next week is another big match in Bend, Oregon so I'm hoping that the G24 continues to perform.
  8. A bad extractor caused me numerous feeding problems in a G35 at the 2010 Gator. The problem was diagnosed at the Briley booth. He gave me a brand new extractor, and violet! No more failure to feed. Apparently teh gap between the extractor hook and the bolt face was too tight. Did it go bad over time or was it bad from the start? Was it just the extractor that was the culprit? What did your FTFs look like and how frequent were they? were you using a stock barrel? Thanks for your input. I'll be ordering new parts tonight!
  9. After you mentioned the striker block safety, I took a closer look at it and it looks like the spring was cut. I put it next to a new reduced strength striker spring and it was only 2/3 the size and slightly bent. I went ahead and replaced it with the new one since it looked suspicious. What gripes would be specific to a weak or bad striker block safety spring? I did some research and found that I do have the correct extractor and bearing. Could it be possible that they are now worn and out of spec? I've also got some factory ammo to see if it's possibly my reloads causing the gripe. I'll be taking it out to do some test firing tomorrow so if you have any more input, I'd definitely appreciate it. Otherwise, I'll follow up and let y'all know how it shot (or didn't).
  10. Ok, I'll have to pick up some factory ammo. I believe I do have an armorers manual, just have to find it. Where exactly is the Irving pin block and what am I checking for? Would that cause the issues that I'm having. Thanks again!
  11. Would it serve the same purpose to shoot my reloads through another Glock (practically new in stock configuration) to see if the gripe follows? If FTFs continue, it would be safe to say that it's my reloads. I am planning on doing this at the next match. Any other recommendations?
  12. I also just picked one of these up for the 24. Great set-up, when it's actually running!
  13. Here's the link to the classifier. The FTF's killed me...and the no-shoot.
  14. So, I took it to the match today and all was well during the first 4 stages (aside from operator assisted malfunctions!). It was an unusually low round count match with only 108 rounds. On each of the first three stages which didn't require a reload, I used different mags to see if there would be any issues with one in particular - all was well and it shot everything. The fourth stage did require a reload and since I wasn't smart enough to do any real dry fire practice with this setup, I didn't seat the mag all the way and it dropped. Threw it back in the gun and it shot the next 18 rounds flawlessly. The last two stages killed me. El strong and weak prez - first string after reload with strong hand, FTF. Second string, FTF during freestyle, none on weak hand. I was actually doing quite well on the classifier until I got the FTF...that's when my game went out the window and the poor no shoot had to suffer. Last stage, FTF with the first mag on the Texas star, reloaded once with no FTFs, reloaded again with 2 more FTFs. Not only did the FTFs come back but on two occasions, the gun fired, went back in to battery but the case failed to eject (casing remained completely in chamber). I have no idea what the heck is going on with this gun. On Monday I put 300 rounds through it without any issues and now it's back at it again. Same ole hang-up FTFs. I was actually having a pretty fun day but, after each FTF, my attitude dropped and I almost packed up and left. Any ideas? I'm getting so frustrated with it, I'm tempted to just put it back in my safe for a while and start shooting the G35...or go back to production. I'll try and put a couple of the vids up so y'all can get a better view of the FTF's...I just want to shoot!
  15. I've considered it, and may possibly transform my G17 to an open gun later on down the line. I just can't see myself shooting Glocks in any divisions outside of production or limited. I'm sure they would perform fine, but in contrast to an SVI? I've only tinkered with other peoples open guns so I really don't know the true advantage over an open Glock vs the higher end open guns.
  16. Anyone have any input between this and the Vortex Viper 1-4? I've had the opportunity to check out the Vortex but haven't personally seen the MTAC. Advantages/disadvantages?
  17. I'm glad I found this post. Was actually going to pick up the PST for 3-gun, thinking that it was somehow superior to the HS. Knowing that both are identical and that the HS is actually better since it's capped, I will be going that route. They are also on sale now for $400 shipped so I'll save a hundred bucks! http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/vortex.pl?page=vortexviperhs1-4x24 The only other difference I see is the Mil vs MOA adjustments. Is either better than the other? Advantages/disadvantages? From my understanding, as long as it's zeroed, neither will matter much in a 3-gun setting.
  18. I want to say this is LL? If so, I hope my 24 can keep up with yours!
  19. Thanks man! Let's squad up tomorrow!
  20. I'm glad I found this post. Printing now!
  21. Lots of water and snacks throughout the match. Since most of the outdoor ranges that I attend don't have much seating, I purchased a little tripod folding camp chair that fits in my range bag. It definitely helps me to get the load off my feet throughout the match.
  22. I just started with par times and have found the Steve Anderson's book, Refinement and Repetition pretty useful.
  23. I've never enjoyed the muffs so I've always used the plugs. Recently got some surfire's and really like them. I've heard lots of good things about the custom molded so I'm hoping to get some of those soon. Since I've been shooting indoors on occasion and it gets quite loud, I've been forced to shoot with muffs on over plugs. I've got the Howard Leights and have been pretty happy with them.
  24. Definitely focus on the fundamentals. Better to start with good habits rather than trying to break bad ones later on down the road.
  25. The contour is definitely the way to go. It's also pretty cool mounting it to your AR for the rifle matches. Just don't mount it too close to the muzzle or the camera will freeze up on you...I learned this the hard way!
