  1. I am not sure I just moved here about 3 months ago. I just looked at a brochure for the club. I have not met any gun folks in this area yet. I will ask around..
  2. I know this is a good set up for ICORE, but ICORE doesnt seem to be around SW Michigan. Is the 8 shooter legal in IDPA? Also does anyone know of any clubs in SW Michigan that shoot 3 gun, IPSC, or Icore?
  3. I cant decide, I have a chance to buy a 17c with a non ported barrel from another 17 in it for 400 would this be legal for production?
  4. From the Front Sight mag this month it loks like all the revo shooters were using Hodgdon or Alliant. What is the popular load for IPSC? My guess is the top shooters are using similar loads since only 2 powders are being used. In the last two weekends I have tested a clays load and a bullseye load both pushing 230 grains of lead. I had pressure trouble with the clays load. I did not chrono the clays but I shronoed the Bullseye load just over powerfactor it was okay but nothing to write home about. Is it legal to shave some or all of the the hammer off in IPSC? I would like to grip higher but the hammer is getting in the way.
  5. This is a model of 1988, I will call S&W and see what they say. What was the turn around times on the revos you sent to them?
  6. The part that keeps the cylinder from falling from the gun that is a part of the frame is worn. This worn part is allowing the cylinder to fall from the gun when doing reloads. It looks like it is part of the frame. How can I fix this "cylinder stop"? Can I weld using a stainless steel wire in a mig then shae it? Or should I try to use a punch and build this stop up?
  7. I am shooting a 625 45 acp revolver 5 inch barrel 230 grain lead round nose zero bullet, federal primer. After reading faster powder heavy bullet was the way to go I put together a Clays load. It kicked more than I liked. Any suggestions for an IPSC major load for this revolver?
  8. I am transistioning from an STI Edge 40 caliber PFload 180 gr load to a 625 S&W N Frame 45 acp 230 gr PF load. I thought I was past gip but I find myself searching for a comfortable grip. I shoot Iso I have not shot weaver in years. Some say the c clamp inward pressure towards the pistol grip is best, others say a dash of push pull is in order. With the STI the ?C-clamp pressure was fine, with the 45 I fell like I am waiting on the front sight to drop. Would the push pull help pull the front sight down for me? I will have time to experiment with the timerand both grip pressures this weekend. I am hoping some advise on this board can explain the mechanics of both grip styles. Thanks in advance.
  9. When is the next ICORE match? Ill be there for sure. The Office has been keeping me busy but I am ready to shoot. I have to order some miculek grips for the n frame, get the moonclips and I am set. Will all the standard moonclip holders hold the RIMZ moonclips? I am also looking into the fiber optics sights offered for the S&W's what is the most preferred?
  10. I finally found a 625 and I am looking for the most efficient way to load my moon clips and strip them. What tools do you guys use? Also, what moon clips do you prefer for the 625?
  11. At the Tulsa Gun SHow in October I am planning on picking up a 625 5inch for IPSC. What do you guys reccomend for a holster?
  12. Thanks for all the information... I think I will go with the 625. When I shot with the 686 I spent a lot of time reloading, I need every advantage I can get. Thanks again...
  13. I am currently shooting a 40 STI Edge. I started IPSC with a 686 and I miss the old wheelgun. I am considering a 625 or the 10mm equivalent. With a 4 or 5 inch barrel. This is going to be a IPSC gun only. I have several questions. I reload my own so I can set primers deep and I can use federals.. Who does the best trigger job? What revolver would you shoot for IPSC? What Barrel length? How low can I go on poundage on my trigger? Does anyone make replacement parts for the MIM? Do I need to worry about that? Who can give me a fiber optic front sight? Who makes the cylinder shaped moonclip holders I see in competition? If you reccomend the 45 or the 40/10 what reload recipe are using to meet power factor? Anyone know a good source for these revo's with hammer mounted firing pins? I know this is a lot of questions but this forum guided me into ipsc with my edge and I was very happy with every purchase I made. THis forum saved me a lot of trial and error buying. Thanks in advance for the information. My Edge is a 40 so I am considering the 40/10 revolver but I would go with the 45 it it offers a clear advantage in the game.
  14. I recently installed a shock Buff on my Edge. Sight tracking improved, I dont know if this was mental or if the shock buff really made a difference. I only have had a chance to use it once. I do not know what brand it was it is clear. I had some reliability problems. What are my options for shock buffs? I have heard that someone makes them in different widths. I would like to experiment with thickness until I find the sweet spot. Thanks....
  15. Thanks for all the information. I will take it all in and hopefully put it to good use. Today I was going through the range session in my mind. One thing that is holding me back is a tense trigger finger. I think if I relax as everyone has suggested I will increase speed and accuracy. I will also quit trying, after my first 6 runs my time started to increase. I was trying harder each time to go faster. Maybe this is why I felt like I was burning ammo. More practice is needed Yes I have Brians book I have read it about 15 times so far. So far I will read it but I dont know what he is saying until I experiance it. Then I read the book and think okay I know what hes talking about.. I guess I am a trial and error learner... Ever time I read it I pick something up.. or put 2 and 2 together
  16. How do you folks see the gun on a El Prez at 10 yards? What type of focus are you using? As I said I am stuck in type 3, simply because I have not practised a type 1 or 2. I thought this was slowing me down, but as Shooter Grrl had said waiting for a stabilized sight picture must be killing time. On a stage that you have the ability to move will you run closer to shoot a type 2 vs a type 3? Thanks for the input, I will work on the dry draws, and I will stick with the EL Prez.
  17. I now have the ability to call 90% of my shots. I always notice a bad shot, sometimes if it is a good shot I dont see it as well as a bad one, if that makes sense. I can also close my eyes and draw the pistol and have the sights directly in line of my sight. Since I accomplished the above I decided to dedicate todays range time to speed. I set up a El prez cof. I stood at approx. 15 yards and started shooting. I averaged 11 seconds out of about 20 runs. I am using a STI edge. Only a few shots were not A's. This is extremely slow compared to the other folks at the local IPSC match. I had read Bill drills were good at developing speed so I ran through some of these. I then shot into the berm to check consistent sight tracking. The sight returns to its original position, but I have to wait on the sight to stabilize. I feel like I am just hanging out and waiting on this. I spent a few hours at the range and overall I felt like I was just burning ammo on the above mentioned drills. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have only shot one IPSC match so far, so I am not to frustrated with 40 splits, but I was patient with accuracy, vision and index. For some reason I am in a hurry to obtain speed. I am also having trouble coming out of a type 3 focus into a 2 or 1 on close targets. I always want to focus clearly on the sight and watch it up and down call the shot then move on. Do I need to continue hosing until it comes to me or what? I guess I didnt just burn ammo I did learn that when I speed up accuracy goes down the tube. Double taps are not good at all for me, the first is a A the 2nd could be anywhere I cant call it when I shoot fast enough to be considered a double tap.
  18. Is the Blade tech drop anf offset holster going to be legal with the new changes to limited 10? What about limited?
  19. At last weekends IPSC comp I coould see that the top shooter would push his SVI as he shot. At first it looked likehe was flinching real bad but his hits were nearly all A's. Can someone explain how this feels what you are seeing, how to develop this. I am assuming he is pushing his sights back onto target.
  20. I searched couldnt make up my mind, I am new to reloading. What do you suggest for a 40 MAJOR IPSC load in an 5 inch STI EDGE. Brass, Primer, Bullet, OAL, crimp and powder? I need to buy bulk to save money. This is a common sidearm in IPSC what is the popular load? I would like a soft shooting load that I can improve my shooting skill on. I jerk the trigger so a soft shooting load is a must. I have looked at a ton of load recipes, I need a newby load.. I just picked up an edge and a 550 press set up for 40. I have trained with a 686 and I am able to track the sights with a revolver. I am looking for a tame load that will allow me to grow and track sights with the Edge. I would like to thank the expierianced reloaders and shooters in advance for all of the advice you offer to us new guys. It is priceless... I would like to pick a load and buy conponents and build and shoot. Soft shooting is a must due to me being recoil sensitive.
  21. Who makes a kydex holster for the STI EDGE long dust cover?
  22. I actually shot a 35 that had a good trigger on it. I am sure the Glock can shoot more accurate than I can. I am not a great shot by any standard. Having said that I carry a Glock day in day out. I have it with me all the time. It is a good duty gun, I would just like another platform to shoot. I shoot a Glock a lot, I shoot a 686 a lot, a 1911 would be nice just for a change.
  23. I can get the Eagle with a bushing barrel correct? Thanks for information Dawson told me the samething. I will call Brazo....
  24. I am the same guy that asked about the Trojan. THank you for all of the information. Information is what I need right now. I am not a great shooter I have never shot a IDPA/Ipsc course, I want to and I want to be competitive. I have a Dillion 550b on standby. I have been told a double stack is the way to go. I also would like to shoot action pistol. I need a jack of all trades that will allow me to grow as a shooter. I would like reliability, accuracy and flexibility. Thats all:)... I can spend about 1600 bucks. What do you suggest? Oh I would also like to carry this on duty. However I am prepared to just have a game gun. I am currently looking at an Eagle with bushing 1600$, a Dawson Jarret Para 1099$ and a Dawson Tactical 1876$. What others are there, and what would you suggest out of the selection? I have a fear of spending 1600 bucks on a pistol and it not be reliable. I am currently leaning towards the Eagle but I like the Dawson Jarret price. Help me out here please. Oh I dont want a Glock, I have carried one on Duty for three years, its great, I just want a different platform to play on. Unless of course I can get a Glock with the trigger and accuracy of a 1600 dollar 1911.
  25. I am planning on ordering a 40 caliber Trojan. For L-10 and ESP. I have read some horror stories about the 40 caliber in the 1911 platform. I am planning on reloading so I can adjust OAL. Having said that I would like to be able to shoot factory defensive rounds from time to time. Is the 40 to unreliable in the Trojan? I am assuming there is an advantage to shooting the 40 in competition, due to a quicker handling gun and less perceived redoil. Is this true? If there is no advantage to shooting the 40 I would just go with the 45 and have a reliable pistol. Also would I be able to get a 10mm barrel and mags and it was fitted of course and shoot 10mm in the 40 trojan? What do you guys think 40 or 45? I am limited to a 1000 dollar budget for this gun, otherwise I would be going with a double stack. I found the Dawson Jarret to be around 1000 but the Salesman told me the Trojan was an overall better firearm. I need help making this decision, I have to order reloading equipment and the pistol this week.
