  1. superdude, thnxxxx, this is the best help I've ever gotten here ( no insult to others) I am going down on that bench as I finish typin'! the coke bottle look is exactly what is going on. It ( coke bottled) is on most rds but they somehow chamber and fire...I use all mixed brass so your idea of headstamps is also helpful, might be a certain brand that is screwing me up, thnxxx so much for great tech factors to ck into.
  2. no, the bulge is perfectly uniform and as you get 60% away from mouth of case it starts and is very sutle but evident when miked up and is enough to stop the round from fitting in chamber of barrel, however the rounds slip easily into my dillon case measuring tool because the tool gauge is forgiving I guess, I didn't catch this until I made 400 or so and tried them out, every 20 or so rds too fat ( bulged) to chamber but everone passed the dillon gauge tool test fit. very frustrating to say the least, now I use my actual barrels instead of the case gaUGE TESTERS thnxx for reply.
  3. thnxx for replies, somehow it's the bullet that is doing it...If I use Berrys 115 and do not change any setting on my size die, etc. seating/ crimp it is mint, guess I will try to re-adjust and may go back to fmj's for 9mm, I can't have these rds getting jammed into the pistol ( Ruger LC) it is a major Pain to get them unchambered and out of barrel. other then these 9mm problems I must say I love S&S bullets and use 200-300 a wk for 45 acp and love em.
  4. I am having a problem when I load 9mm....I end up with most ( 75-80%) of completed rds have a bottle neck/ expansion about 2/3's way down from mouth that causes the caes to not seat fully in chamber. This problem is only when I am loading lead RN 115 gr bullets ( S&S) the bullets measure out fine ( 356)and I even backed off the OAL length to lesson the pressure on the case, any ideas? the bulge is not making me happy even when it is slight & able to chamber cause it's wrong- do I have to go back to fmj's to get rid of this concern?? thanks in advance ( load being used is ss bullet-115 RN...cases are 1x fired misc- powdrer is W 231 3.5- grs....OAL is 1.112 - primers CCI small thnxx!!!!!!!
  5. Thnxx to all that gave me some help, will try dryer sheets then a metal measure cup if need be- thanxx again! this forum is great, good folks with knowledge here 4 sure-
  6. any ideas on how to eliminate or reduce crazy amount of static in my plastic pwder measure cup? I use a small plastic measuring cup/ devise that I bought from Brian, works great but past few days it has .1 or so grains stuck to it from static, making me nuts, tried a few things, it is leaving too much powder behind/ sticks to the measure cup ( does it with W231 & Bullseye) what the hell>? thanks,
  7. Thanks for the help, I'm sure the Blue Bitch as mt wife calls it will be spitting out rounds sometime today & all in the world will be good. I will follow your guidelines and if need be, call Dillon or Brian E. Luckily I have 300 rds of 45 so I am set for my practice and competition in a few days. I don't own a primer tool you mentioned to use during the compressing of primer slide but will adapt and overcome. thnxx again Youngeyes
  8. I was in middle of reloading 45 acp- my 550 is set up and running flawless until...jam, wam, oops. on return stroke and attempting to go for the final "push & seat my primer" I found handle stopped early, it ( handle is hitting the catch tray bracket of the finished round attachment.problem #2 is I only saw that the primer spring loaded "post' if you will ( where primer sits and slides) is not 100% lined up with hole in the turret. I now tried to re-adjust what was a perfect adjusted machine and I loosened the allen set screw that holds the spring tension in the primer arm that holds the primer, it popped off and now I cannot install it and get it to it's original compressed state- I am lost and need help. hope I am describing the parts correctly- I have loaded about 6000-7000 rds on the new 550 and this is first log jam I have had that I couldn't look at and fix. my main concern is: the primer holder bar ( slides along the trac and is about 5 inches long, silver aluminum bar stock that loads primer) how do I install the spring so the actual primer cup sits low to clear the magazine loader for primers and the handle hitting the catch tray attachment..it was working fine now it sall a mess.
  9. Primer Bar Stop Adjustment?????...is that the allen screw that is in the primer bar itself? ( rests against a 1/4 in vertical stud) I am looking at it now and it looks like that "adjuster" is to set how far it returns, I am replacing the pick up tube plastic tip ( yes, B sold me a replacement part pak) when I bought the 550. Thank you very much for replies. - Shootluke62
  10. S&S in Ill. has scw 185's not sure what exact semi wadcutter you are looking for...
  11. any ideas on this?? I have had my 550 7 months, loaded over 5000 rds ( small and large pistol) never a hickupp, my problem is when I am supposed to be picking up a primer ( happens LRG or SMLL)primers are not hapily dropping into the loading pocket. I looked in the area, no crokked primers etc. area is totally spotless, I clean and reassemble every 500 rds. I ended up taping a 90 gr FMJ to the top of the low warning sensor rod and that is helping but I hate to Jerry Rig my new press...any indeas greatly appreciated. ( I use Fed primers and CCI's) never a concern before this week, hapenned 7-8 xs today, 5-6 yesterday.
  12. I used Wilson shok buffs for years on my Colt Commander, no problems, no FTF's FTE etc. I beleive it is good as far as not beating the crap out of my $1200 pistola, muzzle flip was not changed in my opinion. No more Commander, my officers RIA cannot accept a shok buff or I would be using them still. Try them, it's $6.95, you like it...great, you hate it...so what? it's the price of a hero sandwhich- you be the judge.good luck
  13. I noticed after using my 45 acp brass 2-3xs seating the primer is a bit harder ( slight tiny "dent" in new primers etc) brass is tumbled shiny like new but the primer pockets are dirty, any ideas? is there a efficient way to clean the pocket? should I be de-capping then cleaning my brass? I have been cleaning brass then decapping- thnxx for any ideas.
  14. Mark,'thanks I cleaned the cal conv plate, and then re-adjusted tension. Dillon had a great idea also, I put the case in stage 1 and left sizing lock ring a lil loose set case up into die then tightened it up ( it centered perfectly) and it is cranking now. I found out that unique is not the best metering powder and I am going back to 231 at least for the 380 and mouse gun crap I am loading for my buddies. thank you for your help.
  15. I have been reloading on my 550 for 4-5 months and so far it has gone very well, I have been relaoding 9m,38 spl and 45 acp with great succes and have been QCing every step to insure good performance and safe loads etc. Now I am trying to reload some 380 acp and it is a nightmare!!! 2 problems occur. 1. unable to size and decap more then 3-4 cases then the case gets misaligned and ends up ruined/crushed. I have adjusted the shellplate pressure and "clip/pin" at stage 1 to guide and secure case, if I go super slow and push on case with finger as it goes into die it is fine. 2. powder measure is not consistent. I am using Unique and I suspect it just doesn't meter well, going for 3.2 gr of unique using S&S cast 95 gr. lead RN bullets. OAL is .980 * bonus question, I did 9mm with S&S 115 gr cast RN bullets ( oal 1.135)and notice a slight case bulge that was not an issue using berry fmj's which were 115 gr...the cast RN are .356 so what gives there? thank you in advance for any ideas to guide me through the 380 BS, luckily I don't need a lot of 380, its for a buddy's keltec and that gun is not a daily shooter at all.
  16. Thank you all for the advice, especially the pic from Blueknight- I will fiddle w/ it some more and will get it dialed in.It may also be my speed while bring the case up into depriming station, too fast and the case wobbles a tiny bit causing it to move??... My wife is already calling the 550 "the blue bitch" cause I am down in my shop loading and at my club/range shooting 300% more then ever before- gotta love it!!!!!! thanks again.
  17. have had my 550 2 weeks- it is easy to use and although I go slow I am learning alot. I have a hassle in station 1 due to the paperclip like "guide" that aligns the case for depriming & repriming-I adjust it and after 10-15 rds it moves a tiny bit and that causes the damn case to just move a bit which stops my smooth seating of primer, this is happening on small and large pistol priming on all cals, 380,9, 38 spl and 45 acp.I am using cci primers BTW. I adjusted that chinsy clip to the spec of a bizz card but it isn't a stable design, it moves and is finicky, other then this I love the 550- any ideas would be much appreciated. Also can I adjust the shell plate so it clears the primer station?..it taps it sometimes and stops the shellplate from turning. thank you!!!!!!
  18. Thanks for the info, I guess I need to see a regular commercial vs. mil spec. spent case next to each other,so I can see the difference, I am buying new brass from Starline to start off with, my range (private) has many Dillon fans, thus the floors are never left covered in brass! thanks again.
  19. Long Island, NY resident-things I digg...my 2nd A rights, the USA my family, being a fireman and Harleys..gotta ride, gotta shoot..

  20. I am waiting for my new 550 to show up next week but I am reading pounds of info and have a question about using 1 shot brass, I am seeing info about being careful not to use military brass ( I shoot .45acp and 9mm)due to a crimp in the primer/shell relation etc. do I need to be careful about using 1 shot brass re: primers ?? ( yes, I know large for .45acp-small for all other pistol rds) Thanks for any guidance, I am very impressed by the depth of knowledge here and I know I am going to love reloading, not just to save $$ either- gonna learn tons.
  21. Just popping in to intro myself here.
