  1. Some times time is far more important than money which makes a division where you can use store bought ammo and optics an interesting one, from some perspectives.
  2. I'd like a division where I can shoot a gun that can be run on factory ammo, that is 10 round limited so that I have to remember how reloads work and that allows optics 'cause I can still see a red dot. My understanding of production optic fits this bill. This would become my division of choice so I voted TRY
  3. If you spend the money on a custom built airsoft race gun, they are pretty much as reliable as most other catagories of race gun. They'll also group to within an inch at reasonable airsoft distances (10 yds) so that problem can be fixed :-) Take a look at https://www.facebook.com/AirsoftSurgeonOfficial or http://www.eliteshootingcentre.co.uk/ to see some of the high end kit people are using on the international circuit. Of course, then kit gets expensive again so you don't need to go to that level but it's an opportunity for gear freaks Kevin
  4. Lee, There's already nothing preventing "unsanctioned" airsoft matches at any level, of course. So the issue is sanctioning and participation in the international level airsoft circuit. Personally, I really don't see any down side to the USPSA offering such sanctioning. It helps ensure that any one who shoots AIPSC (and that is a recognised international term) does so to the same safety standards and professionalism that covers the rest of the handgun divisions in the US. It seems to me that this would help *avoid* the problems of "net commandos" and other undesirable categories reducing the reputation of the sport. I shoot "real steel" open in the US and airsoft open in the UK. Both are great fun and require very similar skill sets and attitudes. I find I shoot far more airsoft since it costs much less, I don't have to spend hours relaoding to get the ammo to shot and I can safely practice in my back yard or basement. AIPSC is not quite the same as the real thing (obviously) but it's fun in its own right and I'd much rather see it properly under the umbrella of the USPSA in the US and done seriously than ad-hoc with no attention to IPSC standards. I do think it is a "gateway" as was mentioned earlier but it's a gateway for getting more people involved in "Action Pistol" many of who will probably grow into other real steel divisions as they realise there's fun to be had. I don't see that it makes banning anything more lilely since people who think that way want to ban everything that even looks like a gun already and getting more people having fun shooting anything seems to push against that trend. Obviously, I'm firmly at the sport end of the IPSC spectrum (I shoot Open) and so don't really see that the "defense roots" argument matters much these days. I'd like to see large scale sanctioned airsoft matches in the US, to add to those in Hong Kong, the Phillapines, Finland, UK, ... since it would open up possibilities for more shooting. You probably will have an up hill struggle to get national support since most won't see the need but that's true of everything that requires some one to do something differently so keep asking and in the meantime, run some unsanctioned matches so people can see how much fun they can be! Kevin
  5. Not just centrefire pistols but rimfire pistols too except for long barreled pistols (which you can't borrow to try out). Fortunately, I still live in CA too and have my gunsafe over there for necessary real shooting fixes! There aren't many people who are happy about CA gun laws but they are my best option - which tells you something
  6. To give you a calibration, here's my recent story in the UK! Bit of background: I've been shooting competatively since the 70's; many courses in both UK and US with national level champions cause they are fun; competed in a few nationals myself; USPSA RO certified but not current; UKPSA member since 1987; USPSA Benefactor member since 1990ish; ... Since I haven't shot a UK competition in a while, to shoot an airsoft pistol match here (best we can do), I'm expected to take a 2 day training course. The US is a lot more shooter friendly
  7. I set up a gun with a 22 top end for a local league.
  8. And almost shooting IPSC again :-). Maybe next time I'm back in the Bay at the right time, I'll have to come by a competition! For some reason, I was just watching some video of the "Enos Squad 30" and the "Nor-cal" squads shooting at the Nationals in the early 2000's so the old days are fresh in my mind. Good to hear from you.
  9. It's been nearly 10 years since I last posted to these forums! It's funny how things can get worse: I'm now in the UK where one is not easily able to buy an airsoft pistol to shoot IPSC action air. And I thought California was bad

    Mac For Photoshop

Thanks for all the advice. No one said I need a dual g5 machine, so we're going with the Powerbook and an external display. It'll all be on the network so there are probably hundreds of GB of drives floating around to be filled in some fashion, as backups and I have a couple of firewire drives (that probably need to be reformated for a Mac!) I get to add one of the fancy iTunes Airport thingies since I buying Apple stuff, so my benefit is that I get to run iTunes through my audio system Thanks - this forum is a great place for info on ANYTHING! Mac For Photoshop

Nik, there are a couple of different aims, based on work to date. One is to be able to produce "digital books" for specific forms of presentation. This basically means scaning images from prints (usually in the 10"x10" range printed from 6cm x 6cm negatives), and then printing. Minimal manipulation. The other intent is to use this system for work prints. This will mean scaning negatives (either 6cm x 6 cm or 8" x 10" negatives), using photoshop to do the equivalent of dodging and burning, and printing, probably up to 20" x 12". All of the above would be B&W. Then there's also the generic color stuff, probably all digital, that one is forced to do to meet the MFA Photography requirements This would probably be done with a medium format digital back most of the time. The mac is simply because everyone else in her world, including all the instructors, speak mac. Since she is *NOT* a computer person, the trivial mapping from the way things are done on a mac to the way things are done on a PC is anything but trivial. Even having 2 buttons instead of 1 and closing windows on the left instead of the right seems to imply the world is not the same. I'm trying to keep life simple Thanks for the input, Kevin
  12. Since there are people on these forums that know everything about everything I need to get a Mac system to support a photographer who's going to be *forced* to do something in the digital domain. Since she prefers 8x10 negatives and exotic processes, this is not a natural transition and has to be done on a Mac since that's all people in Art Schools speak. I'm computer literate but Mac and Art ignorant so I need help. Oh, she also wants a laptop machine so that she can cart her life around with her. I'm wondering if I can get away with a loaded 15" Powerbook, driving the 23" HD screen as one machine for both purposes? I know that there'd be no way to do accurate color calibration with the native laptop screen but I don't see that there'd be any difference between the laptop driving an external screen or a desktop doing it. There's obviously a difference in processing power between a dual 2.7GHz G5 and a 1.7GHz G4, but I don't know that it'll matter for photoshop images. Is this a realistic idea or am I missing some thing and really do have to buy 2 machines? Kevin P.S. I have hopes that I might be able to manage a Mac since people tell me one can open a command line interface and speak Unix

    Tactical Sign Language

I came to this late, and so got to read all of this at once!!! Now I'm going to go and lie down. There are some funny people on this forum ... seriously warped but really funny ... Kevin
  14. You have nothing to complain about since you beat me on every stage The classifiers shot in this match were: 03-04, 03-05, 03-09 and 03-18 As people have already pointed out, you take the average of the 4 percentages you have from Flex's wonderful calculator since you did write down time and score. If this is above 40%, then it's C; if below 40% then it's D. My average was statistically indistinguishable from 0 Kevin
  15. I love flying. I hate flying commercially. Aside from the fact that they won't let me drive , the whole set up at the airport is such a complete pain and a waste of time. I used to have a plane that would get me anywhere in the US faster than going commercial, then I loved flying! Now that I don't and have to join the cattle lines at major airports, I accept it as a necessary pain to get any where. Kevin
  16. So, from now on in matches, if short_round is going too fast we can all claim it's because he's shooting that factory minor stuff *by mistake* Kevin
  17. Personally, I stopped practicing in dojo where you are not allowed to smile a few decades back. Respect is inside ... Joyous exuberance is the essence of good practice. Keep having fun Kevin
  18. Once one is bitten by the Aikido virus, you can never "stop", there is only an occational hiatus A couple of years just means that you've had time to let the ideas settle and mature in your subconcious and once you get mat fit again, everything will fall back into place. To echo Dale: "Welcome back!" Kevin

    Gas Prices

I just got back from the UK and paid $8/gallon on average. $80 to fill the tank <gasp!> Kevin
  20. When I read the topic, I was confused. I thought most planes landed close to the ground, in fact coincident with it, since they only land when they touch the ground. Then I saw the clip and understood Must be a fun beach to sit on ... Kevin
  21. I have a slot for Open Has anyone made any requests for Enosverse squadding? Kevin
  22. There used to be a company in Castro Valley CA that reloaded 38 super to my spec. I signed a release that they we performing a service under my direction or some such and every one was happy. They disappeared some time during my ten year hiatus, so you might have a point. However, most local gun related businesses also disappeared so I can't really draw any conclusions Kevin P.S. a double charge is not an issue for major 9 or 38 super with most powders, since you barely have room for one
  23. I'm just encouraged that the majority of the list so far have accents that I can identify with Kevin
  24. While he was alive, Adams changed THHGTTG every time he moved to a new medium (and I started in the original radio days which is by far the best version!) Now that he's no longer with us, I wonder if the natural forces of Hollywood will continue that tradition accidentally? Kevin
  25. Sorry about the ambiguity. The load I'm looking for would be something closely akin to my current load, which is: 38 Supercomp, 121g Zero JHP, 10.2 of VV 3N38 It's for a Commander length Open gun. I doubt anyone is likely to have anything off the shelf (although I'm prepared to be pleasantly surprized ) so I'm assuming I'll need someone who will load to spec. Thanks for the pointers so far and I'll follow up. Some one also suggested the possibility of a local guy who likes reloading ( ) doing this. Hmm ... Thanks, Kevin
