  1. Les: what comp are you using?
  2. This is all assumption since I dont have my rifle yet to test with. I think you have the right idea about a longer length of travel while the bolt is moving back into the buffer tube. That should help decelerate the bolt and soften the felt recoil. however you will then have a longer length of travel for the bolt to go back to its forward position. This could increase muzzle dip/dot movement since the bolt will have more time to speed up. My plan is to find a happy medium between the two. I have read multiple times that shortening the bolt stroke with spacers will make the rifle feel like it is recoiling harder, but will not impart as much dot movement. That leads me to believe the bolt is slamming to the rear with more force (hard felt recoil), and then going back forward with not as much momentum so it doesn't impart dot movement. I will definitely be trying this out next weekend when I have my rifle in hand. Im thinking of using cork to help soften the blow of the bolt. I think it would be better than metal on metal. If it falls apart which I think it probably will, Ill try rubber or delrin.
  3. To all you cmore guys, have you tried using something like a vortex razor red dot? I was originally going to go with a tube dot like the trijicon mro with the 2 moa dot. After doing a lot of reading the 2moa dot seems to be a bad choice for uspsa competition. I can get a good deal on vortex products so I started looking at the razor red dot with a 6 moa dot. I'm just a little concerned the lense will be too small compared to a cmore.
  4. Thanks for all the great responses. I did settle on a basic thread protector. I can always switch to a flash hider/comp later if I want for looks. I only shoot 40 major in limited for uspsa, so for this 9mm pcc I will develop a specific load for the rifle. The goal will be a 128-132 PF. I'm leaning towards a 124gr Berrys bullet. Mike. When talking about stroke. Are you talking about the length the bolt travels in the receiver? Are you stacking quarters in the back of the buffer tube to reduce travel length? I'm confused how this will help with recoil management/dot flip. Thanks! Now I just need to settle on an optic. I'm in between the vortex sparc ar and the trijicon mro.
  5. Thanks for the input. I assumed that a 9mm minor load wouldn't generate nearly enough gas to work a comp. I have found a few cheap comps marketed for 9mm, but I might just do a thread protector. Sounds like you get better recoil management/dot flip by messing with buffer springs. Have you found this to be the case?
  6. I'm building a 9mm. Mostly quarter circle 10 parts with a 16 inch barrel. Are you guys running a comp, or just a flash hider? If you are using a comp which one are you using. Thanks!
  7. Thanks for the input. How do you guys like the optic for shooting from 200 - 400 yards with it? I like the reticle the Burris has. Looks like it could be useful for holdover. I am a huge fan of vortex though.
  8. I currently compete in tac division. I am thinking of giving limited a try. What optic do you use and how do you like it? So far I'm between the Burris ar1x or vortex Spitfire. Thanks.
  9. Will do. I mount the shotgun with right hand on trigger and left hand supporting. When I go to reload i throw the stock on my right shoulder with my right hand, and contunie to support the barrel with left hand.
  10. I just looked at carbon arms website. It seems the pinwheel is what theKenny is referring to. They are inexpensive, but also looks like I could create my own pinwheel plate with some kydex sheet. Might be a interesting experiment.
  11. Thanks for the input guys. Ill give it a shot. I like the idea of being able to cut it in half if it seems to large for most applications.
  12. I have been using the Taccom 4up dual load caddies for awhile. I am wanting to switch to quad loading. I currently shoot right handed and roll the shotgun over to load with weak hand. I want to switch to throwing the stock on my shoulder and loading strong hand. I was considering the carbon arms backbone. Being able to carry 24 rounds that close together seems like a good way to do it. However, I'm not sure if that's going to make loading difficult since the first 4 shells I'll grab will be close to my left hip. Also, I can't think of many times I've needed 24 rounds in a stage. Would I be better off going with a different caddie, or just not loading the backbone all the way up so my reach won't be as far? Thanks in advance for your input.
  13. I currently have my M2 setup to hold 10 + 1. I definitely need more capacity. The question is do I got to 12+1 or do I go 14+1? 12+1 makes sense because I can hit a quad load off the start, but the extra two capacity may come in handy. Please share your experience if you have any with the 14+1. Thanks.
  14. Im building a new rifle for the 2016 season. Last part is the adjustable gas block. I wanted to get a Syrac since I have heard nothing but good things about them. I came across the Seekins low profile block and have heard good things. The price point is attractive as well. I was wondering if anyone with experience with either of these blocks could lend some help on the topic. I will be using the 15" MI ss gen 2 hand guard on a 16" barrel with mid length gas. Seekins : http://www.seekinsprecision.com/seekins-precision-low-profile-adjustable-gas-block-750-dia.html Syrac : http://www.syracordnance.com/collections/gas-blocks/products/gen-ii-750-adjustable-low-pro-solid-gas-block Thanks!
  15. Armalite 18. Both are great. You get the extra velocity with the 18.
  16. I shot tanfo for over two years. I liked it a lot, but I had a chance to shoot a friends custom 2011. It is my preference, but I liked the 2011 better. I felt it pointed better, weight felt better, ergonomics felt better and the felt recoil was the same. Another thing I liked was the availability of support. I live in AZ and have a few very good gun smiths to pick from. There are no tanfo smiths here. Perhaps it was just my tanfo, but I couldn't get my trigger to reliably perform like my now 2011. Looking back I'm not disappointed I started with tanfo, but if I were to give a new shooter advice id recommend a 2011. Look at the top shooters. A vast majority are on the 2011 platform. It's for a good reason.
  17. I'm getting a 11-87 that has been modified for my first 3gun shotgun. It has a daves metal works easyloader installed. I've been doing a lot of reading and it looks like the quads, or load two is the way to go. Seems like the traditional weak hand loading 4 is on it way out as a dominant choice. I'm wondering if having the easyloader will make the quads or load two more dificult opposed to the traditional weak hand 4 method. All the info/video I've come across doesn't address this. Its mostly normal gates. I'm between ap custom and taccom for the caddies. Probably quads by taccom, or load twos by ap custom. Thanks in advance for the input!
  18. StraightUp_OG: That would be great. Thanks!
  19. I'm going to add tape to my grip. I want to know what prep I need to do to make the tapes stick well. Do I need to remove the factory checkering? Do I need to wash the grip with soap and water then dry completely? I'm going to try to replicate the Dawson pre-cut tape with some extra skate tape I have around the house.
  20. Fyi...this is for sale in the classifieds now. Come get it!
  21. I have an AET barrel and ive shot bear creeks and black bullet with no issues.
  22. Ive seen many shooters run edges with little mods done to them smoke guys with full custom guns. As long as its reliable, and you get comfortable with the gun you will be set.
  23. I recently purchased a new Tanfoglio 10mm mag to modify for my Caspian Hicap. It is the K10 mag tube. I am using the Henning base pad, and a tanfoglio grams follower and spring. I have dremmeled, and filed the feed lips so the mag seats nicely in the frame. The only issue is the tube is swelling with 19 and 20 in the mag. It makes it very tight to seat in the frame. If I force it I can get it to stick, but im not a fan of forcing the mag in. Any ideas, or experience with tubes swelling? Any remedies? Thanks!
  24. Im looking for some new style 10mm (K10) Mecgar tubes only for the large frame tanfoglio. Does anyone know where to get tubes only? thanks
