  1. This post kind of reminds me of a NRA TPC match I went to one time. There was a guy in my squad that complained about the rules all day long. He cornered me late in the day and I simply responded by saying, if you hate it so bad why did you CHOOSE to be here all day. He walked away and didn't say anything else near me. Different games, different rules, its all still shooting and better than being at home cuttin the grass. If you don't like, don't come.
  2. I get a lot of hi points in my classes too. I have yet to have one make it the 50 round course without crappy on itself. Most of them get the point by the end of the day that they should get something else if they are serious about defending themselves.
  3. changing a couple of parts will do it. Glock minus connector, Extra power trigger spring from zev tech, and reduced power striker spring from zev tech. That makes it just under 2.5. The reduced power striker spring can cause light primer strikes so it may be necessary to get an extended striker. The aftermarket trigger spring is less reliable than the stock one. If its a competition gun, go for it. If its a carry gun, leave it stock. just my two cents.
  4. I would recommend not loading based on the specific shot requirements. If you need 6 and only load 6, what are you going to do when you have a FTF or jam. When you tap, rack, you won't have enough ammo to finish the stage. Always make sure you have what is required and extra for "Murphy".
  5. I have a G35. It has a reduced power firing pin spring, extra power trigger spring, extended striker/firing pin, and glock minus connector. All springs are zev tech. Its about 2.5 or so. The firing pin safety and spring stock. The only issue I have ever had with this setup- Gun started doubling during a USPSA match. Upon dis-assembly I found the firing pin safety spring had turned sideways not allowing the firing pin safety to return to position therefore allowing the firing pin to flow back and forth. I believe that this error was self induced during reassembly the night before. Stopped, Put it together right. Before then and since then, thousands of rounds problem free.
  6. Shoot it and go in there with a simple strategy- Shoot brown cardboard-
  7. Start with one of these or similar. I knew basically nothing when I started. The manual got me cranking out lots of rounds. 10 years later, still don't know anything. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/217655/lyman-reloading-handbook-49th-edition-reloading-manual-softcover
  8. I am a LEO who started with my duty gear. Didn't have anything else. I think the rule makes since to ensure that everyone has a fair shake. In theory normal duty gear is a disadvantage over normal IDPA gear. But there is no standard issue set of gear. Sooner or later somebody will modify whats on there belt and claim its there duty gear. Example: swapping your duty mag holders that have flaps to open top pouches or showing up with a serpa level one when they really carry a level 3 at work. Everytime I go to a law enforcement only match, somebody complains about what someone else is wearing. One size fits all rule works the best.
  9. I say the easiest fix to ridiculous lawsuits is a loser pays clause. You can bring any suit you want, but if you lose, you pay the bill on both sides.
  10. 1.5 hours north on 77, Central Carolinas Shooting Club. IDPA and Steel Challenge. Another 30 minutes north Mecklenburg Wildlife Club- IDPA
  11. My 11 year old. We started with a Ruger .22. We graduated to a Glock .40 (minor loads) in January. We started off shooting the glock seated with a rest. We moved on from there.
  12. ericjhuber- I started her with a Ruger .22 at 7. We just shot fun stuff in the backyard. Cans, clay pigeons etc. Things that fell over. At first she did not show alot of interest but the more matches she went to with me the more she asked about it. She has been shooting my Glock 35 for about 6 months. I started her shooting on a rest. Once she got the hang of that we starting standing. We also dry fire together several times a week. I have my fingers crossed we are shootiing her first match Saturday.
  13. My 11 year old daughter. This is a practice stage. She is shooting her first match this weekend.
  14. I just recently purchased a Bushmaster AR with a removable carry handle. I have noticed that the rear sight housing sits crooked. It is held to the left under tension. I can very easily push it into alignment and it will pop right back. If I crank the elevation knob up, it will straighten up. From a internet search this appears to be normal. Does anyone have any thoughts as to whether it is normal and if so why the rear sights are made this way? What could I or should I even do anything about it. Thanks.
  15. Anyone heard whether there may be a SC State match, when, and where it might be?
  16. Hey Lee, I like to confirm if its still on as well. I don't want to make a 3 hour ride if its not. I also have a couple of buddies that I am trying to get into uspsa. Do ya'll allow new shooters who are not uspsa members to shoot? Thanks in advance.
  17. Federal Primers without a doubt are the most reliable and softest in my opinion. I shoot .40 out of a glock 35 so can't help you with 9mm data. I use moly coated bullets from precision bullets. Work really well, cheaper than a plated or fmj and more accurate than I am. For the most part you will find that what's behind the gun is much more important than what's coming out.
  18. Tell her from the start and try to get her interested. If its a problem from the get go, keep looking because it will be a bigger problem down the line. Then you would have to choose.
  19. I consider changing your grip. I noticed alot of muzzle flip that could be reduced with a better grip. Get on you tube and watch how Bob Vogel grips his pistol. It will really increase your speed and accuracy for follow up shots.
  20. After I discovered the issue the other night I separated them out and tested almost all of them. None of the primers punched out. Do what I did, scrap brass bucket.
  21. Broken slide stop spring caused this last time we had one at the department doing the same thing.
  22. Your right, I went and looked again and it is "PPU" Thanks
  23. So I just got done rolling some practice rounds and came across an unidentified headstamp. I had about 10 in lot and the resizing die would not punch out the primer. The only markings were "PPV .40 S&W". Does anyone recognize the stamp and/or have a idea why they wouldn't punch out.
  24. As long as you stick with a notch and post style sight you would be legal for SSP. Trigger mods that would change the external appearance of the gun would not be legal (For example, a kit that removes the slack). mods need to be basically limited to the exchange of internal parts only like a different firing pin spring or different connector. polishing internal parts would also be legal.
