  1. Question for Paul...so there is nothing illegal about dry fire in your backyard in Florida correct?
  2. Ok.... so I feel a little "mag paranoid" now! Just through the years so many open issues are mag related, a friend got me into really babying the mags.... so much so that I feel guilty for leaving them assembled while in storage after cleaning them! I'll try not to be so paranoid... thanks, Wes
  3. Just curious... I take apart my mags, clean them, pull the springs out and keep them in a plastic container after every match to help the springs last longer... any one else store their mags as such? wes
  4. Hi Eric... It was really tough for me to knock that thing in so I have not pulled it back out to measure...it the Brazos Tuned Ejector with no alteration, so whatever length he cuts them at and it still running like a top. I have become used to the side mount and think I am going to hang with it...it is working great. So far...so good!
  5. Ok so here is where we are now: I changed springs and worked on the mags and held off replacing the ejector and stuck in the 8lb spring for the Sunday match. Epic fail, ended up going home after two stages. At the match, Shannon Smith showed me his 9major gun and how the STS2 is completely off the ejection port, then pointed out that my brass is whacking the scope. This I knew but was hoping the real problems were elsewhere. Shannon's thoughts were until I get the scope out of the way, tuning the ejector would not completely get me out of the woods as there are just so many variables running 9major, that even with the finest tuning, at some point some mag or piece of brass sticking or something is going to hose me up. So I went home, changed out the ejector to the Brazos tuned ejector. Same problem, brass whacking the scope and every 75 or so rounds....a stovepipe or something. So I took off the scope completely. Ran 250 rounds of both major and minor ammo through every magazine I own, even ones I had considered iffy. Gun ran flawless. I contacted Speed Shooter.com and ordered a Cheely Horizontal mount as I can not at this moment afford the STS2 setup. I paid for the 3 day UPS but they were really cool and over-nighted the mount to me. I installed the mount and went shooting. So far around 500 plus rounds of major and minor ammo through every magazine I run, again including four mags I was sure were never going to run. Not a single failure. The gun runs flawlessly. I am getting used to the new mount...if I can get used to it I will just run this, if not...I will save some cash and go with the STS2 set up. Problem solved. Thanks for all the help and ideas.... Wes
  6. What kind of extractor are you using? Have you pulled it out and cleaned it? Try running a lighter recoil spring. Put some tape on the scope and mount to see how many rounds hit it. You might just need to do some basic maintenance to get the gun running again. I am running an Aftec, it seems to fit nice, not to tight and not loose at all. Running a 9 pound spring. Will stick in the 8 pound spring for the Sunday match. There is actually a dent in the bottom of the scope from brass hitting it. Can't tell if it hitting now or not...but it was...
  7. The ejector throws a small arc about 6 inches out and then down... without a mag a little higher than with mags, the mags that I can trust were all good today. Over all it seems a bit of an anemic throw. I will have a couple of guys watch on Sunday, maybe video. So let's she how she rolls on Sunday before I try the new ejector.
  8. I will try this today and let you know the results.
  9. Thanks Eric.... I am going to go over the mags in great detail before swapping out the ejector.
  10. thanks for the info in the posts.... great stuff...
  11. I bought my 9 major gun used, the top end was brand new but the bottom end seems to have had a lot of rounds through it. The face of the ejector looks to have been shaped like a Brazos tuned at one point, but seems to have flattened out quite a bit. I have some infrequent FTE's and I am trying to determine if mag related or ejector related. Some friends at the last match pointed out that every now and again the ejection pattern changes and a few weak ones come out. It is also showing dings on the bottom of the scope, a fairly recent development. At the same time I have identified two inconsistent mags. I have a new Brazos tuned ejector on order, but was curious to get some opinions on the life span of an ejector. Wes
  12. What OAL are you running? 9 major?
  13. I am going to have to say the guy in the video mentioned above deserves a medal.... I think his name is Chad and I heard about him on Steve Anderson's Blog. I have been doing this routine since the day I watched it and I have had massive improvement. I play guitar for a living and torture my elbow and forearms and have been dealing with issues for years. This one video has changed everything. When playing guitar for hours I have to deal with other forearm issues as well and attempt to keep Carpal Tunnel damage from occurring. I use a device built for mountain climbers that is a daily part of my routine in addition to the routine shown in the video above. Good luck!
  14. The Vogel Model from Glock Triggers is awesome on my 34 set up for Production... I run a 5lb Spring with a stock striker to avoid lite hits and it is still really nice.
  15. I have owned three types... a build from a talented local gunsmith, a Dawson Mini Stroker in 38 SC and a SV 9mm full size. Echoing much of what has come before on this thread, all three guns were amazing...once I figure out "care and feeding" of each gun... any hiccups were my fault. At the same time.... I have seen guys shoot the stock STI setups that were tuned by a Brazos or a Dawson or a talented local gunsmith both in 9mm and 38S or SC and those guns run like beasts if you treat them and feed them right. The "Indian verses Arrow" factor. For me the 9mm/SC decision came down to cash.... I can afford to shoot 9mm all day long... SC got to the point that it was prohibitive personally from a cost perspective. So I think cost is one of the biggest factors, and reloading supplies are getting tougher and tougher to find. Take a hard look at your personal financial picture. There are lots of used guns on this forum and the USPSA forum, some from big makers and some not.... pick one that seems to be in good shape and run it.... if you want to go big, there is a Limcat for sale here and a killer SV for sale on the USPSA site. If you want to start smaller there are many options around as well. I also think you can't lose by buying a factory gun from Brazos or Dawson that has been tuned up with new trigger parts etc. So yes lot's of options.... but don't disregard the "finance" side of things.... you don't ever want to be in a position that you shoot less because you can't afford to "feed the beast". Wes
  16. Neil's son Rick is a good friend of mine. I was able to meet Neil briefly at a sound-check at a gig I was doing in Cinci at Bogarts. He was a really nice and gracious man. Rick had some amazing stories of his dad.... Rick came home from school one day and his mother intercepted him at the door and told him leave his father be for a while as he "had a bad day". Turns out they were trying to practice moon landings on a "crab looking" contraption with a jet engine that would fly them into the air and they would have to try and land it like he was going to have to do on the moon. It never worked very well, and that day he had come down hard and fractured his jaw and nearly bit his tongue off! Rick took us to a shuttle launch as the guests of "Neil"... the VIP view of the shuttle launch was something I will never forget....and Rick's comment that as amazing as the shuttle was... the Saturn Five made the Shuttle feel like a toy. The one that sticks in my mind....is when one of the crew guys on the tour made a comment to Rick about the moon landings being faked... and Rick responding... "you really wouldn't want to say that around my dad...he may be old, but...he has no tolerance for fools and would probably deck you". RIP Neil Armstrong...
  17. If you are not quite to the stage where you need surgery... there is a method of "maintaining" that I use. I play guitar for a living, right now am doing tons of studio work, sometimes five hours a day and a few live gigs where I play for four hours after the studio. I have been dealing with the wrist issues for 8 or 9 years now. I went to see a specialist that developed a device that has really saved me. www.forearmpain.com It gives you the ability to perform deep massage when you need it... and keeping the muscles "loose", helps take the pressure and strain off of those nerves. I hurt a lot, but as the doctor said...there is no fixing it unless I stop what I do...just the ability to keep it in check. I dry fire a lot...and then play guitar for hours... I get a lot of wrist and elbow pain..so then I massage the forearms heavily with the Forearm RX and then ice up...and so far have avoided surgery... He designed the unit for "rock climbers"... it's not a gimmick.... it's saved me. Good luck.... Wes
  18. I had really good luck with the guys at Brass Monkey Performance in Georgia setting up a 5.25 for me.... Chris shoots a 5.25 and is pretty dialed into what works and is into making them really nice for production. He does a ton of polishing and uses parts from PRP, Springer and Canyon Creek. His trigger job with the PRP kit was amazing. They are a fairly new company, but I tried Chris's gun at area 6 and had one set up like his with all the bells and whistles. I am very happy with mine... http://brassmonkeyperformance.com/ Wes
  19. Cell phone camera, but it will give you an idea... Wes
  20. I just wanted to post to let anyone know that if you are on the fence about getting your FN modded by C-Rums, jump in and get it done. He did mine, it's beautiful, the guys at the range thought it was a "factory" mod. Works flawlessly. He was easy to email and the turn around time was much less than expected. All around great to work with. Wes
  21. If someone has the exact part numbers for the kydex model, that would really help....thanks...Wes
  22. Thanks for the info... I will put in a call to them to make sure I get the right one....all the best...WES
  23. I have the Dawson tall front sight on my G34, I am using a Blackhawk holster at the moment and even with massive dremel work the front sight still hangs up. Does anyone know if the blade tech for the G34 will solve this problem? Thanks... Wes
  24. +1 on this...I just picked up one for my daughter.....it smokes my G4 and both my G5's and both my wifes PC's ......stunning. Wes
