Looks for Match

Looks for Match (2/11)

  1. Following up on my last post, I found a pretty accurate and functional load using Viht N120. 9.8grs N120 under a .310" sized 225gr powder coated cast bullet, WSPM primer, 2.180" OAL. About 985 fps through a 10.5" 1:7" twist barrel. I also discovered the NOE expander plugs which allow you to both flare the case mouth and set neck tension. I'm using the .313" x.309" plug with .310" diameter projectiles, giving me .001" interference which seems to be a good neck tension. I don't see any setback or pressure signs, indicating the bullet is adequately held, but not too tightly as to create unnecessary pressure. Also, don't seat and crimp in the same die if at all possible with cast bullets, it's really easy to create lead rings or shavings that get stuck in the chamber and screw with accuracy until removed. Neck tension exceeding .002" can also create issues with small lead fragments sticking in your chamber in my experience.
  2. I've spent a fair amount of time developing subsonic loads lately and have a couple to share. Data from a POF 10.5" barrel, 1:7" twist. Both loads are with a 225gr. powder coated cast bullet made with NOE bullet mold TL310-225-RN, lead hardness at 24bhn, sized to 0.310". Most accurate and functional: 10.0gr AA1680, WSPM @ 2.180 OAL - 1,025 fps Most quiet but not functional (w/o lighter springing): 7.5gr AA#9, WSPM @ 2.245 OAL - 1,035 fps
  3. Adding my recent experience with WST. I wanted a soft 9 minor load that would also suppress well. WST suppresses very well, is very clean, and at the 3.5grs needed to get a 147gr Blue Bullet to about 940 fps, wasn't enough to create pressure sign in a CZ Shadow 2 and an MPX with 4.5" ILWT barrel. At 100 yards, the 4.5" MPX with a suppressor can ring an 8" plate quite regularly.
  4. I have been using the standard Timney single-stage, it's probably 10 years old, and it works! I will say though, I am getting some trigger vibration. Probably 2,500 rounds on it so far. I am running a gen 2 pistol (not for PCC, obviously).
  5. As an alternative, IF you load long, don't crimp too much and use a 180gr bullet, you can use N310. I started using it after Sandy Hook crushed suppliers and have never went back to N320..
  6. Often 2011 style pistols are more reliable with a longer OAL due to the magazine tube dimensions. As noted, longer OAL is not required to make major without pressure sign. In my experience, using a 180gr blue bullet I could get away with a really fast powder like N310 when loading at 1.2" OAL and it feels really soft, is extremely consistent shot to shot, no pressure sign, and is hardly impacted by temp, humidity or altitude. I would NOT load N310 at factory length and try to make major.
  7. You've likely already built this pistol but for the record, I used .004" all the way around and have shot almost 9k with no issues and an almost seamless fit.
  8. I generally always use VV powders but ventured out and have had good results so far with Clay Dot. Running 4.1grs under a 180gr Blue Bullet at 1.2" OAL. KKM 5" hybrid and bull barrels on my builds.
  9. I use a Coleman soft bladed fan that is designed for camping, uses 4 D batteries. I shoot 80-100 rounds within 5-10 minutes, lock the slide open and sit it in front of the fan's gentle breeze while I load my mags and paste. Cool to the touch in probably 8-10 minutes. Rip another 80-100, rinse and repeat. My barrel life has been over 50k in terms of rifling wear using Blue Bullets and VV N320.
  10. I have the new E2 grip on my limited pistol and am very pleased with it. I've put about 15k on it with no cracks or issues. The texture is just enough, definitely not as aggressive as the PT. I'm really liking the contour of the E2, feels and points naturally for me.
  11. 180gr has my vote, I run VV N320 and it's very consistent and clean. I load to 1.2" OAL
  12. I'm in the 4 motion draw camp. 1. Scoop or seat the grip while bringing the support and near the stomach 2. Pull the pistol up to clear the holster 3. As the pistol comes up, take the safety off just before your support hand lands so that the support hand doesn't get in the way of the safety coming down 4. Lock in and punch out while getting the trigger finger on the face of the trigger After that, see sights, go bang!
  13. When did you take delivery of the pistol and when did you start having this issue? Your lack of details is.. interesting..
  14. Ok I haven't used Rocksett yet because I heard the promise of Loctite 620. Before 620 I was using Loctite 248 I believe, the basic red tube that you can get from walmart. The 620 hasn't done any better for some reason. With 248 I could get 300-400 rounds in before it would start to shift about 5 degrees after which I had to heat it to get it off. Today the 620 proved for a second time that it doesn't seem to be any more capable. I clean the threads with brake cleaner and scrub them with a wire brush before using a dry cloth the wipe them down. I feel like this should be adequate thread prep but I'm not seeing the results. I'm gonna order some Rocksett and see if it works any better unless anyone has any better thread prep advice! Also, I'm using a 5" Scheumann Hyrbrid undrilled with an SV titanium comp, wondering if the difference in metallurgy = different expansion and contraction rates therefore = comp falling off
