  1. while it is an interesting photograph, recoil hasn't started yet so of course it's flat.
Cool pic of an open gun firing. Notice the bullet is out of the barrel and the gun is flat.

 What do you think causes recoil?

  2. When did you start shooting open?

    About a 2 years ago.

Was 40 your first caliber in open?

    Yes

    Why did you choose 40?

I had a 40 cal limited gun so I just used what I had.

    What make is your gun?

    Homemade

    Who built it?

    I did

What barrel length, comp and optic are you using?

The barrel is a Schuemann AET Hybrid with no ports. No comp or optic. Does anyone make a mount that attaches to the rail on a dust cover? Then I could put a eotech or something on it.

Do you run a big stick, and what capacity are you getting?

Yes I run a big stick when needed. I am not real sure about the capacity but I think it is around 24.

What have you settled on for a load?

    4.7 gr titegroup under a 180 pill.

    What's your open classification?

    U

    Where do you live?

    In a house.

I just shoot open in multi-gun as a mag feed shotgun puts you there (why I have no idea). I have never needed to reload the pistol so far at a match so I think it is good enough for this.

  3. Sorry my bad

What could be more tactical? You have a mag fed pistol and rifle they are tactical?

Well anyway good luck with what ever you pick

QFT! That rule needs changed along with open shotgun = limited 10 rule.

  4. See pages 24 & 25 in the instruction manual.

I have seen that but it is unclear to me.

    From page 24 for .40 S&W

    12940 #W Shellplate

    14062 #2 Locator Buttons (6)

    12912 10mm cal. Expander – W

    13878 Adapter – Green

    13098 Casefeed Plunger – Medium

    17384 Blue Locator Tab – Short (1)

    13569 Blue Locator Tab (5)

    14067 Die Lock Ring

    13005 Powder Activator – Pistol

Do you need the 10mm expander, can I not just use an expander die? Does the same powder bar work with both .223 and .40 powder charges? I do not see priming parts on that list or swager parts but they are the same for .40 and .223. Is the 13878 adapter for the case feeder? What is the die lock ring for? I would also need a casefeed plate too, wouldn't I? Are any more parts needed for the casefeed change over?

  5. The aluminum bullet tray is optional. The super 1050 comes standard with the plastic bullet bin.

Guess he didn't buy it from benos....

I did get it from Brian. B)

So I asked this in another thread but this one gets more traffic so I will ask it again here. Is there a caliber conversion list for the 1050 any where? There is this http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11064 but it does not cover the 1050. I have a new 1050 in .223 and possibly want to load .40 s&w on it. It seems like I would not need that many different parts and most would be for the case feeder.

  6. 4) The wrench that came with the machine is a complete joke and was bent within a day or two of tightening and loosening die nuts. When you spend close to 2000 dollars you would think you get something other then a cheap piece of die cut Chinese crap steel.

    6) The case feeder mis-feeds about 1 case in 20. Either the case is destroyed or it fails to find its home in the shell plate.

    CW

I just got a 1050 last week and mine did not come with a wrench at all. Their was the little screw driver with the relief cut in the middle of the blade but no wrench. Was it suppose to come with a wrench? What does the wrench do other than removing the dies?

I have just played around with it doing some case prep so far and the primer catcher cup thing fails to catch a good percentage of the primers. Why do they not use a tube like most every one else does.

Also if you are going to complain, Dillon lock rings on their dies suck.

For an 8 stage press it really is equivalent to a 5 stage in what you can do (plus the primer pocket swaging), I was hoping to use the powder check with a Kiss bullet feeder but it looks like that will not work.

    :popcorn1:

And one more question. The bullet tray on mine is a plastic bin that is not located or look like the one in Dillons pictures; is this a new change?

  7. Mine loves the same ammo but I will not shoot Eley any more because of a out of battery discharge I had. It cycled the gun and did not hurt anything but I do not want it to happen again! I have had problems if I support the gun by the mag on a shooting bench and press down hard the mag rides too high and impedes slide movement. On the S_I mags the shim pieces can be moved a little because of the slop in the screw holes; I would try moving yours a little to see it you can get the mag to sit lower.

  8. It is legal to make your own frame from a BATFE standpoint, as long as you are making it for yourself, you can't sell it. There's more info at the home gunsmithing forums of Roderus Custom. One of the threads is on a homemade 2011 style frame.

You can sell it just like any other firearm but you can not make it for the propose of selling it with out a license.

    Back on topic:

If you look at everybody's guns at the matches, they are all different, and many are put together by different gunsmiths, that certainly do not turnout 500 of the exact same gun. Many of the smaller 1911 manufactures do not make 500 of a model before making changes for the next years design. That being said they all use “standard” parts so as long as it is as “standard” as any other gun of that type I see no problem in some one making a part themselves.

  9. I have used the SPS grips before. They fit fine and are just a little bit bigger and have the mag well.

Edited to add> The mag release is a little different but you can make it work.

  10. I would be concerned since this is a new gun, but that being said, the dustcovers only functionality is what its name implies (and to add weight:D ). It should be ok to shoot, but if it got out with that crack quality control is not doing it’s job. I would check over the whole gun to make sure everything is good to go.
