Philo You should be good to go with that set up.. I've seen several of those used G17's at Dawson's and they are good to go. The Vanek kit would be the only thing you could skip for now to get rolling. You can drop in a connector, change some springs, and do an easy polish job and have a very shootable glock trigger. Also on the G17s you might want to add an extended mag release button but that's about it... The 17 is a great gun.

Saw Ben's shooting up close for this match and on the practice range. I've never seen anyone shoot as many A's at speed as him ever. Truly impressive shooting - I learned a bunch. Thanks for coming down Ben, look forward to seeing you shoot again in Vegas!

showing them what is possible is a great point. I have taught several LE instructor courses and my fair share of firearms programs in the past 23 years. I don't think there was ever a course that I taught were some demonstration wasnt a part of the program. The first thing that came to my mind when I read the OPs post is that the guy who told him this rule was probably in need of a good shooting demo to show him what is possible...then sent home with a training plan and tested at a later date.

The Warren competition front sight works great with the 10-8 rear. I have that exact set up on my duty glock.

Can you even find the X5 All Around anymore? I haven't seen those in a while, just curious.

The M&P is a neat gun and shoots great. Just make sure you have a bag of spare strikers on hand.
