  1. Anybody seen a thread for a 2014 version of this match???
  2. I'd put myself on the low end of the physicality scale and I thought the skedco was just fine last year. It actually surprised me how easy it pulled during my run compared to when I tested it ahead of the walk-thru. Buzzer adrenaline I guess. I thought the "Custom" stairway to the top of the Conex box was a bigger challenge with funky angles and different height steps. Seemed more like something you'd find in an old fashioned fun house. Then, if you shot with the RO's there was the lack of any material cover on the bare metal Conex top as you transitioned off the stairs onto the roof. I've learned somewhat how to track my scope reticle correctly when breathing heavy but never practiced all that on longer shots with blistered finger tips. Oh such fond memories of last year's match. I do presume the sun and heat won't play as big a factor this year.
  3. Will sign-in arrangements be the same for this match now that it has moved to the Legion facility?
  4. Though a bit far Dothan is not a bad choice. I did it for the TFD3G match in June and everything worked out well. Actually better, as I sprained my ankle during the RO shoot and I had plenty of ice at the hotel and easy convenience to the corner drug store for Ace bandages and Epsom salts. The roads between Dothan and Legion are pretty wide open except for the speed zone through Columbia, AL and a short section on the northwest truck bypass around Blakely. Another tip after a couple years working in eastern time zone and residing in a hotel in the central time zone, I set all my hotel clocks to eastern time and manually set my cell phone to the same and was never late to work.
  5. The move to March takes us out of peak gnat season too. I'll take the heat any day over those pesky little buggers. You know I heard the gnat is south Georgia's "Unofficial State Bird".
  6. Thank you for the offer SamV. It was not really a problem for me personally, I just made the inquiry based on some of the other posts regarding transport of ammo. I'm actually working on a project now where the job site is located less than two hours south of Columbus and was going to pack up my kit in the truck at home ahead of time and my wife was going to drive it down Friday to meet me coming up. With this potential change in venue I'll probably just stay at my regular hotel in Dothan and take the whole kit when I head down at the beginning of that week. Legion range is nice. I RO'd at this year's TFD match and it was a great event. The Holiday Inn Express in Dothan is a good bit more than 28 miles though. Probably closer to 38.
  7. Any provision for a match contact or place to ship our ammo in the Columbus, Ft. Benning, Cusseta area?
  8. x2 is a nice number for round count. Some for sight in, some for forgetful buddies, some for the squad mate whose ammo suddenly stopped shooting straight, and of course for side matches if there are any. Any info on side matches for this contest?
  9. I'm going to guess the cut off is 160. I'm ENTERED at 159. Thom
  10. I was wondering about that Jakin, GA location sono . The only time I've ever seen that name come up when checking my location on the smart phone is while sitting at the intersection of Cedar Springs Road and Great Southern Highway. I didn't sit there very long either or risk getting hit by a log truck, or a train. Looking forward to a great match.
  11. The folks at Rockcastle should be your best resource to answer this question as they reside in Kentucky. A quick search of Kentucky state statues finds it similar to many other of the less restrictive states in the U.S. Federal law prohibits handgun SALES to anyone under the age of 21 but does not address legal age of possession. Individual states typically regulate minimum age requirements and from the Kentucky Penal Code the following: Kentucky Revised Statutes TITLE L - KENTUCKY PENAL CODE CHAPTER 527 OFFENSES RELATING TO FIREARMS AND WEAPONS 527.100 Possession of handgun by minor. (1) A person is guilty of possession of a handgun by a minor when, being under the age of eighteen (18) years, he possesses, manufactures, or transports a handgun as defined by KRS 527.010, except when the person is: ( a ) In attendance at a hunter's safety course or a firearms safety course; ( b ) Engaging in practice in the use of a firearm, or target shooting at an established firing range, or any other area where the discharge of a firearm is not prohibited; ( c ) Engaging in an organized competition involving the use of a firearm, or participating in or practicing for a performance by a group organized under Section 501©(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or any successor thereto which uses firearms as a part of the performance; ( d ) Hunting or trapping pursuant to a valid license issued to him pursuant to the statutes or administrative regulations of this Commonwealth; ( e ) Traveling to or from any activity described in paragraphs (a) to (d) of this subsection with any unloaded handgun in his possession; ( f ) On real property which is under the control of an adult and has the permission of that adult and his parent or legal guardian to possess a handgun; Elsewhere in the Kentucky State Statutes they differentiate application of state purchase restrictions based on state residency, non-resident U.S. Citizen, non-resident non-US Citizen. They basically default to U.S. Federal statues but your not going to purchase so I can't see any application in your case. Presuming the rental guns will stay on Rockcastle facility property throughout the competition. Not sure if participant's will have to turn them in at the end of each day, especially if your staying on site but you shouldn't run afoul of any transport laws if the firearms stay there. Based on reading the statute above if your 18 or older you should not be in violation and you'd probably be ok even if staying at an off-site hotel. Based on the same statue if you have traveling companions 21 or older or find new friends at Rockcastle who meet that magic "Age of Majority" for handgun ownership you could designate one of them for possession of the handgun when your not in competition. And now for the disclaimer: I am not a lawyer or a resident of Kentucky, nor do I play either on television so find a solicitor of the Kentucky bar for specific legal advice.
  12. Ok, I agree this has become a much more complicated discussion than would seem necessary for such a simple item. I do have a back-up plan that would install a cut to length wooden dowel as a coil over plug if other solutions don't work out. It would be just like the migratory bird plug in my Grand Daddy's old Wingmaster. Speaking of solutions I have to give full credit for the included photo to another member of this forum, Travtastik, and one of his buddies who fabricated their own solution. I really like the bright metal cap as at the length shown it almost exactly matches the position of the extended choke tube above on my gun. Travtastik will be testing this cap on his Versamax and my +1 extension is currently in a buddies shop being cut down to "Cap" length for me to test. DHart let us know how Mark's "Cap" works out when you get the first one.
  13. DHart....Yes, it's my experience adding to your confusion. I purchased a new series Versamax cap directly from Remington and it runs on about 1-1/2 turns and will go no further. I purchased a catalog Mossberg 590/835 cap from Midway USA and is was too small in diameter. Another participant here on the forum shoots at our club matches and he brought me a 930 "Turkey Gun" end cap to try and it behaved similar to the Remington cap only going on about 1 turn before stopping. I have Nordic +1, +2, +4, & +6 extensions and everyone of them works like a charm. Now I long for a +0 but that wouldn't be an extension so it's not too high on Nordic's priority list. I've got a couple ideas up my sleeve but it will involve "tinker fabrication". I liked the earlier post on using Delrin then I could make it a flashy color. For now I'll just lust after a future aftermarket product.
  14. Kolomoki Mounds State Park is interesting and is literally a stones throw from the AIM/Legion facility. It doesn't take too long to go through either. We used to take my sons Boy Scout troop there for weekend camp outs when we lived in the area but that was many years ago. Otherwise, for interesting I'd say watching peanuts and cotton grow would about cover it.
  15. It's the little details that always require the most effort. I do apologize for my role in adding to the confusion. I was hoping by sharing what I was going through a solution might be found. I should have a warehouse full of different magazine end caps when this is over. Maybe I'll have a fire sale.
  16. I've got enough parts at the house to test this concept but the Nordic end caps have internal threads to mount on the Nordic extension tubes and the extension tubes have external threads to engage the inside of the Nordic extension nut (and of course the end cap at the other end). Somewhere the internals and externals aren't matching up, I think? Heck, I'm headed to house to test this theory before I insert my foot any further into my mouth and get my own internals and externals mixed up. Regarding the question of magazine capacity limits as the driving factor for the cap to fit just the 8-round tube; the match rules read specifically: "6.3.2.6 No shotgun in Tactical class may be loaded with more than 9 rounds at any one time, or hold over 8 rounds in the magazine tube." The second part of that statement is what concerns me so I'm planning on a 2-round length dowel behind the follower as a back-up plan if I can't resolve the cap issue in time. I just don't want to have to pull my mag tube extension off before every stage to prove to the RO it can only hold 8 rounds. Those ROs can get pretty picky. I know because I'll be one of them. Parallel to this thread I've been having an ongoing email conversation with the folks at Nordic Components and it is something they are also aware of and thinking about addressing in the near future within their current mag extension product line. I've been pressing them on how "Near" the future might be able to be made.
  17. Mark, What model Mossberg end cap matches your tube end threads? I know a 590/835 is not correct. Presume the Mossberg semi auto family end caps are different but figured better to check with you to be certain. My new Carbon Arms 8 round tube with a Nordic +2 extension looks great. Will be running it for the first time in local club match this weekend but still need to run an 8 round tube only configuration in the future. Thanks I just asked Mark about the end cap and he told me that the 590/930 end cap will fit. Have you tried a 590 or 930 cap and found it to be incompatible??? 590/835 cap was too small in diameter to even fit the end of the tube. Per the post between ours from Travtastik I tried a Mossberg 930 cap at our monthly club match this past Saturday (Thank you Travis ). It behaved in a similar manner to the Remington Versamax cap I purchased. It went on about one turn and locked in place. Seems the only thing that works correctly are the Nordic extension nuts. If they only had a +0 extension I'd have it made but then it wouldn't be much of an extension and I haven't seen such a product on their website. If there was a Nordic extension end cap with external threads to fit the inside of extension nut that would do it too but that product wouldn't make much sense either, EXCEPT for me. You guys at Carbon Arms couldn't possibly fab an end cap for your tube in the next two weeks could ya? Thanks for all the input.

  19. Now that we've sent in our registration and match fee payment any idea when the shooter confirmations go out? I realize from the prior posts in this forum that setting up a brand new competition with international participation is going to take additional time to cover all the issues and logistics. Just a little bit interested you know?
  20. Heck, I'm even bringing a sling for my pistol just in case . Will have to work out a way to use the old lanyard loop. Do they even make those for a Glock??
  21. Thank you Mark, I'll head over to Mossberg right now. Anybody need a Remington Versamax magazine cap w/ swivel stud. Not cheap!!!!
  22. Looking for some recommendations here regarding install issue with new Carbon Arms magazine tube for my Versamax Tactical. I picked up the still NIB 8+1 tube offered in a prior posting on this forum from edittman1 (Thank you ). My plan is to run the tube as an 8+0 for certain matches and an 8+2 for all others. While waiting delivery on the tube I also ordered a +2 extension from Nordic and the latest version magazine cap from Remington for the Versamax sport and hunting models with the swivel stud on the end. These parts should let me run the gun in the two configurations and I’d trim a spring to use in each of these variations. Hopefully I would end up with an arrangement somewhat like co-exprs 26” Versamax featured in the opening post of this forum except in an 8-round tube. I have not removed the factory magazine tube yet (this one ain’t com’in out by hand) but a couple of quick checks revealed a problem. The new Remington magazine cap will not thread on the cap end of the new Carbon Arms tube. The crazy thing is the Nordic +1, +2, & +6 (which I’m currently running on the gun) extensions and the new Remington cap all thread onto the cap end of the original factory magazine tube. They all thread on the receiver end of the new Carbon Arms tube (I know it’s the wrong end, this was just a test). Only the Nordic extensions will thread onto the cap end of the Carbon Arms tube. The Remington cap is a no-go in less than a turn and a half. Visual and tactile inspection of the Remington cap does not reveal any crossed or misshapen threads and no burrs or rough edges are detectable in the threaded section of the cap. I don’t know if the threading arrangement is actually different with the Nordic or Carbon Arms parts to permit a wider or tighter tolerance than the Remington. Presumed they’d be the same thread for extension or cap. Maybe if Mark can provide the thread size/pitch specification for the Carbon Arms tube I can have the Remington cap thread chased in the shop to insure an in spec thread engagement. Any other ideas or input would be appreciated. Would like to have her up and running with some practice time and a couple of club matches under my belt before the AIM/TFD match in June.
  23. Still nothing !!!! I could not locate the Facebook posting that EaZeNuTZ33 refers to in an earlier message but then again Facebook is not always the easiet place to track down previously posted information.
  24. Is the new to BRM3G competitor application form supposed to be available today? Do we know about what time the form will be posted? I apologize for the tone of the inquiry, just learned my day is going to be more busy than originally planned and I didn't want to miss getting an application out in today's mail if possible.
