Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I know you mentioned Kydex however I have a Safariland I believe it is a 567 model (Dillon Presion has them) and it is an excellent OWB holster and has a nice lining. I used a Blade tech for a 625 and it accelerated the wear and scratches and was not as secure for a defense holster ie if I was knocked down not so sure my gun would stay in the holster. JMHO
  2. Don't know about that. But lets follow S&W's thought process from the past. 1) The demand for 625's is probably going down. 2) There is no sport that requires it now, as it has been since the advent of Revolver Division in USPSA. If there was ever a time that a particular gun could have possibly benefited by a drop in price and new manufacture availability it was at that time especially when you have a new division with your gun being it's only viable choice and a legendary spokesman using it? Would it have been a gamble, yes. But what is a 7 shot, 4" 9mm? 3) There is now a demand for 8 shot Revolvers in a sport, actually multiple sports. So if the past is any indicator of the future S&W will do the following: 1) Start production of a 6 1/2" 625. 2) Cease all production of 8 shot Revolvers. Unless Corporate has seen a different light. This was my beef with both IDPA and S&W in 2000. I had a 5" 625 and did well at my local club then IDPA said soon to be no more 5" (after they claimed IDPA would not become an equipment race like USPSA is) S&W having dropped the 4" 625 years ago what do they do, bring out the 4" 610 in 10mm. WTH. (and I didn't want to cut my barrel down, it shoots too darn good) I used my 5" 625 but the year the change was suppose to happen my local IDPA club shut down for 2 reasons. The main fellow moved and there was to much arguing by the Tactical Johnies on who was mor Tactical so they can keep that nonsense. Been to one other IDPA match since and different club and different people but a lot of them were still invested in their own ego I'll just say. (I teach guns for a Federal agency so I am in fact just doing this for fun so when a Produce clerk trys to preach something entirely off base or enforce their own clickish rules I have a problem with it) ^^THIS^^ right here. People get to caught up in the race gun mentality. You are suppose to have FUN when you shoot. Most get caught up in "The Game" way to much.
  3. As far as any brass you pick up from unknown sources if it is fired from a Glock I would discard that. My reasoning is (yes you should resize anything no matter what) but besides the obvious Glock bulge and the elongated firing pin mark that sets Glock brass apart what gets re loaders in trouble with Glocks is their own cheapness. Why we all like to save a buck the shooters that try and get 5=10 reloading s out of their case in a Glock are the ones that have had the issues. Almost ever Glock that had a KB issue suffered a case separation at the back because every time the brass expands and gets resized it looses strength. It's fine for a couple times but much more than that reload and shoot at your own risk. Other designs that don't produce the bulge (especially revolvers) yo don't have that issue. I use to have a couple Glock 40's and once I fired or reloaded the brass a couple times I got rid of it and never had an issue. I truley believe that has more to do with the "No Reloads" statement from Glock than the Lead bullet issue does. Myself I just run Brass I know where it came from in mine because if a hand loader like what I mentioned left it I would be weary. JMHO
  4. If this was mentioned I didn't see it but a lot of folks are running 38 Colt brass through their 627's for IPSC as well as several others in ICORE. just a suggestuin. https://www.starlinebrass.com/brass-cases/38-Long-Colt-Brass/
  5. The IPSC club I shoot in has a ot of field courses (like 5 of 6 stages) I shoot my 625 a lot and it's sort of funny all the polymer kids or tactical Johnnies as I call them are sort of looking at me as I'm out dated. ( I get a laugh out of some of them dressed up in the 511 range pants looking all Blackwaterish because, as I stated before I am a lead Firearms and tactics instructor on the Fed side so I'm all tactic'd out and shoot for fun on the weekends to relax) I joked (half sarcastic but half serious) that "On this stage everyone loads 6 right" A couple times the polymer kids thought the only 6 rounds I said was a real thing and you should have saw their face and heard the immediate complaining. You just had to be there. It was pretty funny. To each their own but sometimes I think folks count too much on capacity and not enough on marksmanship and the art of being able to perform the smooth operation of their firearm. Smooth is fast!
  6. Buffalobolt, You pretty much hit it on the head for me and for probobly a lot of us. While everyone likes to win or do well some of us love shooting what we love shooting just for the fun of it. Sometimes folks forget shooting is suppose to BE FUN. For myself I have always liked revolvers, started out on them and even carried them in the military (USAF) up until 1991. I am a Firearms and Tactical Trainer for a Federal Agency so by the weekend I am "Tactic'd Out" so when I shoot then it's to relax and to unwind. I personally could care less about taking a trophy, being #1 etc. I have nothing to prove. If I competed for a job, sponsorship etc it would be different but it's just a relaxing hobby for me. My serious shooting time is through the work week and I am blessed at having the job I do but like some I just like to enjoy others company at any IPSC, IDPA, ICOR etc match and thats a win for me.
  7. There isn't a right or wrong way just what YOU are most smooth/fastest with. Smooth is fast! I started carring revolvers in the USAF in the mid 1980's. Changing hands was what they taught and it works for me very well. later I dabbled with keeping the gun in my strong hand and reloading it with my weak. I tried several times but was never as smooth so I keep doing it as the USAF taught me. One thing I like is I am able to secure the clynder so it doesn't move while lining up my moon clips or speed loaders on my 686's. The burnt hand thing has never been an issue with me and I have shot a ton of 357 revolvers. It does get warm but everyone is a little different and thats OK!
  8. Actually they started using 45 acp's in revolvers back in WW I and have ever since. Revolver class in IPSC is limited to 6 rounds. IDPA divided revolvers into two categories. Stock Service Rev (SSR) for traditional revolvers with traditional speedloaders (38,357, or 41 44 for the men) and Enhanced Service rev (ESR) for the revolvers that take moon clips. Don't know the real reson for the split. Have read becaus ethe 625 guys were cleaning house because moon clips are pretty quick. All shooting is fun but lets face it IPSC/IDPA and ICORE have rules so that means they are games. Caliber is secondary in IPSC as long as they make min power factor. IPSC you can't load the 38's too low still have a 120 PF min. Idpa it's 105,000 (0r 105)for SSR. competition is fine but a lot of folks forget that the biggest way to win is to HAVE FUN! Some folks forget that! Good Luck
  9. I got on safarilands website and they say the comp 3 fit the 333 in L frame. Brownells info must be a typo. I will just pick one up from safariland. Thanks for the info
  10. I appreciate your suggestion but actually I just want the Safariland 333. I just shoot IPSC and ICORE. I shot a few IDPA but I am a firearms instructor and have spent 9 years as a member and marksman/observer on a Federal LE agency. Lets just say I am "tactics" to death from teaching and doing. I just shoot for fun in my off time. And nothing against anyone that shoots IDPA on the forum here but in my local area I just found some of the RO's and competitors just a little to much to be around, I was afraid they were going tp stroke out with their seriousness.
  11. I have a some Safariland comp III's and a 333 holder for my 686 that I love. I ordered some more comp III's from Brownells the other day. I was going to order a secound Safariland 333 speedloader holder. However when I talked to the customer service rep she told me the L fram 333 holder would not accomidate the comp III loaders just the I and II loaders. The K frame fit all of them. I declined ordering the holder at that time. I went back onto Brownells website and on the L frame Safariland 333 holder it stated comp 1's and 2's only. I feel this is a misprint. Is it just me? Can anyone here clarify? I went onto Safariland site and they listed comp 1's 2's and 3's. I wouldn't think they would have changed the design. thanks for any help
  12. As for IPSC the thing that probably hurts people with speedloaders over the moonclips is not the speed. It's that most of the ones running speed loaders are running in Minor. For myself I am a little faster with my L frame and COMP III's vs my 625 with moonclips. JMHO
  13. This one will! Hey Couch, I usually run an M&P for IPSC but I will be at Riley in May with one of my wheel guns. I had to work and was out of state for March and April. My weekends are free and clear now.
  14. P.M.me if you get the numbers for a REV squad. I was pondering shooting my wheelgun this year at my club (Riley IN) and the IN state. Just not that fun with only 1 or 2 of you. Not to sound scrouge like and since most people only shoot autos and I don't mean to take away from them but all the field courses at every IPSC match get old to me. So I might just opt for ICORE stuff. Let me know
