Keith Many of the guys I know abandoned the arvid grind years ago, the jam you describe is consistent with the lack of support & guidance for the shell as it chambers that occurs when you remove material from the carrier. Sounds like your gun has some other issues as well, you need to hang out with the right pumpers to get yourself sorted N

Sluggish M2, fixed it with some acetone. Before and after video.
Neil Smith replied to Mberry's topic in Shotgun - Technical
Been using my M2 since 2007 & always followed kurts advice on lube as detailed above, I got the grease & FP10 he reccommends shipped here from the USA & my gun runs sweet & always has. However many of my fellow countrymen have had various problems & some have since switched to the Beretta 1301 instead. I cant help thinking that if they had followed the advice kurt has given above, they may have saved themselves the cost of a gun. N -

Mental management for shooting sports, any reviews?
Neil Smith replied to stuart1336's topic in Mental Conditioning
Hi Stuart I have most of Basshams books & CD's including the Mental Management System & the coaching system CD's as well & Im in the UK, postage is not that slow, I recently bought the new book written by Troy his son called Attainment which is also good, I have Saul Kirsch's books & DVD too, Steve Andersons book is also excellent & perhaps easier to grasp the principles being discussed & includes a list of the most common mistakes to avoid. If you attend any of the four4islands matches in the UK I would be happy to let you take a look at what I have, before deciding for yourself. N -
In the UK a growing number of shotgunners, clubs & range owners have grown tired of all the IPSC rules & we now have an organisation that only started this year who are working with the clubs to hold a series of new shotgun matches, if IPSC & also our UKPSA continue as they are doing it is sure to swell the ranks of this new series. Next year they already have a growing calendar. They have a website here.. http://four4islands.org/ N

Terni 2003, was the year of enlightenment hope your well amigo. I tend to drop the muzzle down slightly in order to shorten the distance from my belt to the port for the first shell, but still keep the gun shouldered to save time, then as I load the last rounds im raising the gun up to its firing position, it works the same if your loading 8 or 4 & it works just as good when moving.

Hey Traps I had the modified (Arvid Grind) carrier in my own gun & Jon H also, we spoke with Paolo & Silvia while at ESC09 in Cz & they dont use it on their team, both Jon & I have had serious shell feeding issues that have "gone away" since changing out the modified carriers. I cant recomend that its worth the effort at this time & as yet I have not missed it. See ya soon hopefully Amigo. N

Trapr. Perhaps this discussion should be split off as I dont wish to disrupt the pan am thread, sorry Linda. The issue of FFC at the Pan Am is not what im concerned about, clearly the ammo is available for all to purchase on site, so its fair. Im more concerned about some possible future shotgun world shoot say, that might be held outside the USA or in a country where FFC was unavailable. Clearly those who could purchase it before they leave home would have an advantage over those in regions where it was not available. I also dont like the fact that it makes the game easier to shoot, what happened to learning your pattern inside 30yds. N

Trapr I hear ya buddy but ammo is different from other equipment, the chest rigs are home made, anyone can build one with a little effort, Kurts choate carriers were available over the internet pre 2003, In fact I had some at that time but what I lacked was the technique to use them effectively. I simply think its unfair to be able to purchase an ammunition advantage by virtue of where you live. The Italian birdshot that was banned at ESC06 helped on stages with extremely tight no-shoots, it was not available to anyone else & was rightly removed from the match, was that wrong ? If FFC is available to buy at a match & is available to all competitors that want it then ok. Its a shooting match not a shopping contest. Just my opinion, which dont mean a lot I know. N

Side Saddle or CCW style pouches for reloads ?
Neil Smith replied to paraman1's topic in Rifle & Shotgun - Technique
At the last IPSC European Shotgun Championship level IV match held in Czech Republic the top shooters in Standard Auto & top team both from Finland were using elastic wrist holders & no belts at all & they beat the weakhanded CCW users. It was a similar story in Pump Division, the top three places & also top team all came from Italy & they all used elastic loop belts loading two shells at a time & beat the CCW weakhand loading users also. So its really a case of being good with whatever you decide to use. N -
The guy in the shop is wrong, what the bigbrowndog means is you grind some off NOT fill it in to enable the ghost load. see here... How do you know how much to grind down? I'd like to ghost load but I don't want to ruin my carrier doing it. Maybe it would be smarter to just buy a bigger tube. Take a closer look at the pictures in my earlier post, grind out the notch in the bolt carrier at about a 45 degree angle, take off a bit at a time & try it. Much better to grind out the notch than try to fill it in, that way there is nothing to fail & fall out into the gun potentially jamming it mid stage. N

Tactical Division: 9 rounds in gun at the buzzer?
Neil Smith replied to Justin's topic in Rifle & Shotgun - Technique
Its legal in all IPSC Shotgun matches in both Standard Semi Auto & Standard Pump Divisions. The USA is hosting the IPSC Pan-Am Shotgun Championships this year in Kentucky, so a good oportunity to try it. N -
Thanks. I figured so since it is such a common mod, but the language of the rule seems kind of weird to me. So if welding additional metal to a carrier and changing its shape is "permitted", at what point (if any) would a carrier mod cross the line and become "restricted" in this area? Thanks, Ryan rz317 I believe the idea of the rule is to prevent metal levers being added to the carrier that stick out beyond the original frame of the gun, enabling you to hold the carrier down using one hand while reloading with the other. N

Cool lookin dog ! Congrats amigo from this side of the pond. N

Like Adrie I also run an 11 round gun. IPSC shotgun rules are a bit different to what USPSA are doing. In the Standard divisions (auto & pump) you can only load 9 into the gun before the "beep" for an "Option 1" fully loaded start. Other possible start conditions are Loaded Option 2, Chamber empty & only 8 shells in the magazine, or Option 3 Gun totally unloaded. After the timer starts if your gun can hold more rounds you can put them in without fear of being bumped to a different division. In IPSC Open Division there is no round limit at all, the trend in europe currently is towards a Saiga or Merlot using the "max rounds" 20 round drum mags & some extended stick mags of 20. You guys have the IPSC Pan-American Shotgun Championships next year in Kentucky, some of the euro boys are sure to attend & the differences in the rules could mean some shooters from the USA disadvantage themselves unintentionaly.
