Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. +1 Strike Eagle works great for me.
  2. I'm sure experiences can differ, but for what it's worth.....and I have no affiliation with Optics Planet of any kind.......I have ordered a number of items from them over the last few years (including my Strike Eagle) and they have always delivered the ordered product, at a reasonable price and at the promised delivery time. I have even ordered at least one product through Amazon that ended up being supplied and delivered through Optics Planet. When I have ordered a product that was back ordered (once or twice) they notified me when it came in. As Jesse said....I was contacted so I had a choice if I wanted to still purchase. Bummer that your Strike Eagle order fell through....hope you find one soon.....wherever you purchase. I certainly like mine and hope you get a chance to give one a try. Gary
  3. I've heard good things about the Armalite, but I'm looking for something a little quieter. Thanks again to you all for the comments. I am going to give the Gas Hog a try.
  4. Ninja, Thank you! How's the concussion/loudness of the Armalite?
  5. Yesterday I was able to try my new Strike Eagle for the first time in a match. Really like it! Very satisfied with clarity, illumination (part to full sun all day) and reticle. Longest shots were a 17 target array of 8 inch targets at 115 yards. No problem getting solid hits although as previously stated on here, the eye box is a little tight. Where the Strike Eagle really shined for me was on the short yardage stages (40 yards and in) where our diabolical MD had placed multiple challenging targets, including some clays, that required shots through small ports, near and far, around cover and no-shoots and from various different physical positions. I like the reticle.....I am coming off of a circle, dot previous scope....so I may have a little different perspective than others. I find the horse shoe quick for alignment and the hash marks great for hold overs on close in as well as distant targets. As long as I do my part, this scope will get the job done. For less than $350 I believe the Strike Eagle to be a great bargain, have excellent quality and be just what I have been looking for in a scope. Gary
  6. As Hart said.....lots of options. I recently had a Troy Industries Alpha rail installed. So far I really like it. Light weight and handles extremely well. I am using a few of the Squid Grips that fit in the cooling holes and they and the rail shape give the package a solid, comfortable feel that adds to the handling. Note: as with other rails....depending on length .....you will need to go with low profile gas block. Only down side......pic rail sections can be a pain to install. I plan to keep the forend relatively clean so not an issue for me and sounds like it may not be an issue for you......but something to consider if you plan to add any gear. Gary
  7. Thanks to you all for the info and comments! Greatly appreciated! Gary
  8. Looking for a muzzle brake/comp for my Rock River AR that is a good balance between controlling muzzle rise without being too uncomfortably loud. I shoot Tac Ops in local 3 gun and just looking to improve. My only experience is with my original equipment bird cage flash hider. After doing a lot of reading, I seem to have narrowed my choices down to these two: the Seekins ATC and the Carbon Arms Gas Hog. They both seem to have the performance balance that I am looking for and are reasonably close in price. I am asking for any comments that compare these two. I know that there are other less expensive muzzle brakes that perform well, such as the Miculek, but I really am interested in keeping the noise down. Thanks for your help!
  9. Took my new Strike Eagle to the range today for initial sighting in. I mounted on my Rock River also using the 2" Vortex offset mount. I also added the Vortex SV-4 throw lever. I am very pleased with scope, mount, etc. Sighted-in at 50 yds. First group was about 1 in right and 1/2 inch low. After a little playing was able to obtain good, consistent groups using .223 PMC Bronze ammo. At 100 yds, using top of stadia.....good groups, slightly high (less than an inch) with the PMC bronze but dead on with some 5.56 PMC X-TAC and Federal XM193 I had in my bag. Didn't take the time to do any closer practicing and our longer range is closed for maintenance, but so far I really like the reticle. I am no expert, usually no more than 1/2 dozen local 3 Gun matches a year and middle of the pack shooter on my best day, but I think for the $ this scope is a great value. I am replacing my old, reliable Leupold CQT (1-3 power with circle/dot reticle) and really happy to have the 1-6 power and hash marks. Eye relief and eye box also seems better to me and reticle is daylight bright. This may not be a $1000 plus scope but I think it will be fine for me. Looking forward to giving it a try in a 3 Gun match!
  10. At 7:30 PM EDT ....now looks like these are gone. Now estimated shipping is 1 to 2 weeks. August 22.....Estimated shipping through Optics Planet is now 2 to 4 months. Anyone that is interested in a Strike Eagle needs to shop around. They are "popping up" but it seems to be at random suppliers.
  11. At 6:45 PM EDT ...now showing 2 left in stock.
  12. At 5:30 EDT Optics Planet is showing 4 in stock. If interested you better hurry. Received mine last week. Not yet mounted but so far glass clarity, reticle, etc looks great for the price. Look forward to getting it out to the range!
  13. Thank you! If you get a chance, give 3 gun a try........it is great! Very addictive!
  14. New to the forum and wanted to say hello. I have been shooting single stack at local USPSA matches for a couple of years and really enjoy it. This summer a new local club opened that just started 3 gun competitions. I had the good fortune to shoot in two 3 gun matches and I am now hooked!! While searching for 3 gun info, I discovered that this forum is the place for discussions on topics related to practical competition shooting. Thanks to Brian and all for sharing such great information and for providing this forum. I look forward to reading and participating. Gary
