  1. 100% happy with my Dawson competition ready Trojan. Cannot see this pistol ever holding you back in SS.
  2. I will pitch Bayou Bullets - as accurate as anything non-jacketed for me; good pricing, EXCELLENT service, robust packaging, coating doesn't come off on you, range of weights/profiles. K
  3. Im not a nutritionist, but when sweating/drinking lots of water I supplement with a pint or 2 of Smartwater over. the day and feel like it helps washed out feeling. No sugar, no synthetic sweeteners, but has electrolytes. K
  4. I will add a little more data to this thread. The load is a 147 Bayou at 1.125 COAL. Winnie primers and mixed brass. Crimps .376 (really only as much as needed to pass a chamber check reliably). 3.42 gr of RS Competition calculated by weighing 10 thrown charges from Dillon 550. String 3 is 5" RIA 1911; String 4 is Xdm 5.25. Accuracy was acceptable but not steller. It seems my guns like the 135s better than 147s. Primer edges were still round, but cases came out clean. I am very comfortable with the safety of this recipe. 10 shot strings/hi/lo/SD/avg/avg PF/min PF 3.42gr 90deg 3.42gr 90deg String 3 String 4 870 908 900 913 942 924 883 883 898 870 910 924 932 894 889 945 925 904 927 911 942 945 870 870 23.52 21.59 908 908 133.4172 133.4172 127.89 127.89 ffm
  5. I punch the primers out - I try to decap after a range trip or match, and then throw brass in a plastic coffee can. When I have 3-4 full I will tumble and dry in the sun over a weekend day or 2 while doing yardwork, chores etc. I can usually tumble 3-4K in a day (9mm mostly). Brass dries pretty fast in FL sun if you stir it up every 20 minutes or so.
  6. I have gotten (barely) sub 5 over 20 rounds with SR7625, and 6-7 with Solo. All behind a Bayou 135, WSP primer and Win brass. All loaded on a 550, not hand thrown. That 7625 really runs good in the Dillon 550. This was shot out of an M&P Pro and clocked using a Shootin Chrony. Too bad 7625 is going away, really like that powder.
  7. I too wet tumble and have a thing about clean primer pockets. How long between cleaning bras and loading brass? Note that the primer ignition hole can stay filled with water for quite some time after the outside and inside are dry (as in days). I'm betting the hole had water in it and either damped the primer material, the charge directly at the ignition hole, or both. Apply heat or dessicant always when wet tumbling, or give your brass several days to dry, spread out, agitated regularly, and put in a dry environment (indoors). K
  8. Unless you have proven to yourself otherwise, they may also will not cycle an autoloader reliably.....
  9. Interesting - I got an email this morning that my 18 month backorder for MM's was canceled by Midway. They are now shown as Unavailabel - No Backorder
  10. I know you didn't ask, but always use a single load device when appropriate. Seems like many of the sf problems you hear of are because of someone closing the bolt on a free round placed directly in the chamber. Oh I have always used Win LR primers and no issues to date. I have chambered/ejected dozens of live rounds just to inspect and no marks ever found on the primer.
  11. local preference is to nail down big blue tarps with a couple of spikes used to pin in target stands, then use one of those hamster cage thingies to pick up and put in a 5gal bucket. Everybody that reloads always goes home with more than they brung because of the folks that shoot factory. Really efficient.
  12. to not introduce myself. Hanging around here for about a year and have made a few posts, but never in this forum. I am relatively new to pistol games, shooting a few USPSA L3 matches per year, some steel also. I aspire to get better, but don't have much (any?) time to practice, am solidly middle age, and have the reflexes and eyesight to go with that. I have learned a lot just by lurking around here. so Hello! Kevin
  13. Call them - I found they answer their phone. Good company, good bullets.
  14. I am loading 135BB's at 1.135 and find that some will not gauge in a Wilson gauge. I mic'ed the offenders and find that most of the reloads that gauge GOOD are actually 1.133, 1.134 etc, and that those that do not easily gauge GOOD are 1.135, 1.136, etc. Everything that comes out of the Dillon is drop-testing good in the barrel. There is sometimes 1 or 2 per 1000 that do not gauge GOOD and will not pass the drop test. I attribute this to shot out major pf range pickup brass where I see bulged cases and oversize, flattened rims. This is all for my wife's M&P which will handle the BB135 out to 1.165ish. Bottom line - the case gauge is minimum and will not like ammo that your barrel finds perfectly acceptable. You will learn from expereience when the case gauge is REALLY telling you to check this one out. A tip - try flaring the case a bit more if you are picking up little bits of powdercoating; that will upset the works as sure as lead shaving. FFM
  15. I filled my stock gr with soft lead. ~ 500 rounds and I can see no problems with the mod. I know it only added about 1.25oz but the price was right. Kevin
  16. I am pretty new to the action pistol scene, and also to the XD, but I had an identical doublefeed saturday shooting a SC stage. Here are my observations: My handloads weren't chrono'd, but should easily make minor - 4.3gr solo/124gr (not suspect) I took (1) mag apart when I orginally received and cleaned the pistol - it was whistle clean inside. (again not suspect) I found myself riding the slide several times during the day; locked the slide back one time actually. (very suspect) Kevin
  17. Talk to the skeet shooters at your club. They will probably sell you targets at their cost. Our club buys targets for the trap field (by the truckload) and provide several dozen boxes to the SC shooters, for example.
  18. Yep, back in the summer. I was driving my Dad around in his truck and stopped at a Costco to fill up. I know the rules, but Daddy, who is passionate about breaking rules says "leave it runnin". Just trying to keep it cool you know. We're a few gallons into it, when the kid with the orange safety vest reprimanded me. Although orange vests get my ire up, I kept it polite and shut off the engine. I think it is one of those rules just for rules sake. It isn't like you see a lot of coverage on the news about another explosion/fireball where someone foolishly left it running while pumping gas. Besides, I thought cell phones were the real problems. But then, I haven't actually seen proof where a cell phone blew up a gas station either.
  19. New to the board. I have just become introduced to practical shooting and have joined a couple of matches in Tallahassee Florida. This game is lots of fun, although I have looked pretty foolish my first outings. Currently shooting limited, but intend to switch to production when I get another magazine. I want to give a shout out to the gang that shoots USPSA at Tallahassee R&P Club as they are helpful, friendly, safe and good shots all at the same time. Hi All.
