  1. FYI The 2005 British open will be held on 10/11/12 June at Shield Shooting Centre in Dorset. The match will be about 14 stages and 180 rounds of all types of ammunition to be shot in one day. It will run strictly to the current IPSC rulebook . Entries before 1 june will be £35 after £40. The RO package is 50% entry and all food and drink. Foreign competitors are welcome provided they have their RD's approval. They will need in addition to any or their respective national permits a British Visitors firearm permit. I will be organising this on behalf of Shield, the cost is £20 each. Secure gun storage is available at a local RFD free of charge. Ammunition is available to buy on site. For further info post up or PM / email me. cheers james harris
  2. well things ahve got a bit heated but we all seem to agree that the RO should do something so how about making it official such as "not clear" or "show clear"? Its fair enough to turn a blind eye to unofficial range commands but then unfair to insist that we all strictly adhere to the book. NO my friend would not rather DQ someone thats why they gave up and wont RO until certain things are sorted out. Hi Luca , thanks but this si not a regular return to the forum, still got no web access... james
  3. my own thoughts are that there should be an addendum to 8.3.7 to the effect that "if the RO cannot ascertain the **** to be clear they should state "NOT clear" and the shooter should rectify and re-present his gun for inspection" the former RO was of the opinion that as there was no permitted command none could be given I would hasten to add that they would not continue as an RO until this was sorted out..among other things the reasoning was this course of fire ends on 8.3.7.3 when hands are removed ,nothing other than safety warnings may be given during a COF 8.6.1 a shot into the backstop is not unsafe so you cannot warn against it (dont shoot that target the bullet might hit the sand!....) so a shot into the sand on the unload is not unsafe but it may be UGS . It is not accidental as they intended to discharge the round if there was one in the chamber (that is the intent of the hammer drop wasnt it ?) so basically you are telling the shooter how to operate and clear a firearm during a COF and hence coaching them not to DQ themselves. Although this sounds a little extreme it is a logical and substantiated conclusion if the rules are adhered to as they are written. I will stress again thie RO would not let this happen and so has given up on IPSC for the moment, me i break the rules by saying NOT clear perhaps a topic for discussion by others. Vince et al thankyou for answering i did not think I would hear much variation on replies j
  4. thats similiar to what i already do but 1. Why is it a matter of safety (8.3.7 "while continuing to point the ****** safely downrange....") 2. By reissuing the command and changing the inflection of the words are you in breach of 8.6.1 and 10.6.1 (coaching) thus laying that time/score open to challenge by a third party ?....after all you are in fact telling them that they must clear the gun properly and in doing so helping them before they complete the stage... james
  5. First off this is just an exercise to guage opinions. The scenario. You the RO have given the unload and show clear, the shooter presents a gun which is NOT clear (or one which you cannot ascertain to be clear) what is your next action and why or why not (please cite relevent IPSC rules) A. If clear hammer down B. nothing C. Tell the shooter they are not clear D. something else .. .. This is something that a former IPSC RO and I discussed the other day and i just wanted more feed back. cheers James
  6. most good brands of cartridge work after a couple of days imersion but paper/card cased ammo swells and is hard/impossible to chamber. as for leeches well ...we do have in next door's pond but maybe the stream is too fast flowing for them.. j
  7. HI Augusto, Having seen the bags at the EC i will concur on the quality of manufacture. james
  8. Just back online now after a layoff (see other posts) and got to borrow a v nice STI for the europeans. its probably only the upside of our gun ban that we have to shoot all manner of different handguns when we travel abroad. This particular one happened to belong to one D Skinner of Texas and was exceptionally nice to compete with . I know what i'm buying next. j
  9. oh you lucky people, please come and liberate us from our government once your done in I**Q j
  10. HI patrick i was getting involuntary muscle spasms for most of this year until i stopped driving and sitting at a poorly designed workplace. have not had one for 4 weeks now.... maybe your car needs changing or perhaps you should try a better designed ofice. james
  11. no chance of being in the shoot off so friday was always going to be party night!
  12. what kind of challenges ? spreading the word or administering the organisation? j
  13. thank you all for your support , i made a mistake i WILL have access BUT it will be sporadic and very slow so i cannot attend often j
  14. no, no job to go to ....no money either ergo no shooting... what a bummer thanks leaving the office now j
  15. i quit today/tomorrow, and i feel good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! seriously though no more net access so no more enoverse see you on the range james
  16. quick note IPSC rules allow selective fire rifles BUT you may not shoot full auto or burst fire s/a only. 1st offense warning and stage zero, second DQ j
  17. you know i sometimes wish i could post pictures of the funny guns i have played with...including a suppressed revolver and a few pistols that will fit the box and were/are made in more than 100 units. on a serious note i do not think any serious competitor is going to use one but we should not disallow them totally because of the noise problems some ranges have. dealing with them seperately by class (hg,sg,rifle) is sensible but maybe with the proviso that they are only allowed where required due to local ordinances.....or maybe this is a can of worms being opened needlessly....... j
  18. I dont know if this is the right place but: i was browseing the IPSC website and had a look at the classifier stages (something we cant shoot here) and thought why not do the paper only ones with slug ? any body got any comments and does anybody think its worth doing classifiers for shotgun? j ps.Neil,Mike etc are you interested in doing this at a suitable range?
  19. fwiw my suppressed rifle recoils and lifts less then an unsuppressed one, although i would say this is down to the position of the extra weight more than anything else: ergo a suppressor is an "external device to reduce recoil" hence open division beckons j
  20. HI Benelli2/Kurt if you are planning to shoot again in Europe let us know, myself and a few others are planning to shoot more of the continental matches (provided they dont clash with home matches). james
  21. I only saw him on stage 3 but it seemed to me it never left the shoulder..or maybe my eyes are too slow.... as for being branded I do that perfectly well for myself..if clear hammer down open action....clunk, click rack OW THATS HOT! ....every time next year we hope to improve, bigger and better. we will try to give more notice for our international friends so we can sort out permits etc. It will be almost certainly at the same location on the 2nd weekend in June but that is not definate yet. time to start plotting stages, and yes Neil i promise more penalty targets next time.
  22. top ten placings will be on the IPSC website soon, I cannot remember them all from memory but !st in Open Richard Ingram, !st in Standard Kurt Miller 2nd Neil Beverley, Modified 1st myself, !st Lady in Modified Vanessa Duffy (European ladies Champion) Ist Veteran Mike Scarlett cheers
  23. Dont worry Luca , even I cant believe my lack of taste at times, perhaps i should buy a mirror! j btw that was an option 3 start hence the unusual hand positions
