Here's Ted's "different" surrender start. he was fast.
-
Met Ted at my 4th steel challenge in 1987-nicest guy. he was shooting irons mostly. he had a helluva fast draw with that gun hand held high. RIP, Ted.

How does that get people to shoot more irons?
in doing so, you combine all the 9 appendixes into just 2. along the way all the different dumb rules associated with having 9 divisions.

major, minor, iron and optics. there you have it.

IDK. Run whatchabrung worked well enough in the old days, but people always seem to think they could win if only they had their special thing and so we get division after division. That doesn't seem to have hurt growth any but maybe at the cost of diluting competition.
Well said, but that’s also the reason we have a dozen nationals. Only one national event would be a sign of what is popular.

depends on the powder as well. I remember shooting the western states match in Reno years ago and chronoed way hotter than at sea level. YMMV

had oine on my 3gun rifle since they came out. love it and have never used the shade. California, Nevada, AZ, Oregon, nowhere needed.

prior to IPSC rules, here's the southwest pistol league course book dated 1980. in it are a number of courses of fire that use score divided by time. see pages 21 & 36 for examples.

I could try to explain how we determined power factor back then using a pendulum. but most of you would fall asleep...

history lesson here-comstock count was created by gentleman named Walt Comstock. hard to miss-brite white, hair and goatee. I met him when I first started shooting in 1984. he was living in Placerville, CA at that time. he would put on a match once a year and he used a stop watch and a hand signal to start the course of fire. he passed about 20 years, ago.

Loctite #620 green sleeve retainer is the one to use if you don't want a comp coming loose, but maybe someday might want to take it off again. Propane torch and wrench while hot.
yup, green is the sh$t. black, now that stuff is pretty much perm.

that mill is garbage. save yer $. any gunsmith would do that for a fraction of the cost. also, a drill press would work just fine if you know what you are doing and square everything.

Perhaps that is it the direction they feel they should go, so be it. If the premise of minor/major scoring isn't going to be recognized I would propose at that point that they are consistent across the board and not have major/minor for ANY division. Every pistol division has the ability to be shot with major and minor power factor calibers safely so why only limit minor/ major scoring to a select few.
Keep a meager low minor power factor for everything. Go out be safe, shoot and have fun. It's a game and , especially with minor only scoring, has very little purpose of being considered practical for anything else.
why not minor/major in all classes? major 9 in pcc and co would be fun to watch all the gun breakage.

sadly, uspsa has become a minor optic sport.

The initial weight is the slide and barrel locked together.
The slide motion is how far the slide has moved at the time the bullet exits the barrel. Bercovitz and my values matched neglecting friction and spring forces (0.140") for the values used.
When I originally calculated this, I found adding the friction and spring forcers changes the slide motion to 0.134". That's right at the general statements I've seen over the years that the slide moves about an eighth of an inch at the time the bullet exits. Barrel ramp-down occurs after the bullet exits.
There are still many that do not believe the slide moves at all before the bullet exits. It clearly does move when viewing high speed videos - and exploring the physics.
add into that the effects of changing the firing pin stop angle. I have an old steel gun where my smith took the FP stop and angled it to mate with the disconnector rail. course it also had only one barrel lug-he machined off the first lug completely. unlocked quite fast!
