  1. Then use a heat source like a propane torch to melt the end so it doesn't fray. Sent from my Moto Z (2) using Tapatalk
  2. I bought a 4# Velocity flat a few years ago and don't regret it one bit. The guy that owns Velocity used to be a design engineer for Timney and worked for Knight. He sells on eBay too and includes little extras like anti walk pins or trigger guard. Sent from my Moto Z (2) using Tapatalk
  3. The only things I haven't replaced (yet) is the sear and hammer. Henning supplied all the internals and magwell, and the Scales 2.0 grips are from SSI. I polished the rails and inside of the frame and shined up the outside on the big buffer in the shop. Frerking Custom Works did the millwork on the slide. Sent from my Moto Z (2) using Tapatalk
  4. I run a Nikon M223 2-8 and a TRS-25. I like the scope but am shopping for a new reflex. Sent from my Moto Z (2) using Tapatalk
  5. I use cr speed belts and added ratchet buckles this summer. Wish I would've added them years ago. I ordered them direct from M2. I shoot open (Saiga) so no caddies on the 3 gun belt. Sent from my Moto Z (2) using Tapatalk
  6. I found it's important to keep the hammer and plunger spring pockets clean. Gunk can build up in them and cause problems like light primer strikes.
  7. Some people are just naturally faster than others too. It depends on the mix of slow and fast twitch muscle fibers, exactly where the muscles are attached to your skeleton (for leverage) and other factors. How fast you process the timer beep and get the signal to draw to your arm also is a big part of it. Sent from my SM-G928R4 using Tapatalk
  8. For single stack I use 3 double pouches, so all are vertical. I work front to back. Sent from my SM-G928R4 using Tapatalk
  9. I just polished the controls on my limited. I still need to finish the slide release. A rotoloc scotch brite pad in the drill will clean up the tool marks, then polish again on the bench mount buffer. The safety and mag release turned out real nice. I also polished the top of the beavertail and the hammer. Sent from my SM-G928R4 using Tapatalk
  10. I used the oem grips for several years. They provide a good grip, but are too thick for even my big hands. I had to shift my hand in order to reach the mag release. Sent from my SM-G928R4 using Tapatalk
  11. I considered sanding down the grips on my limited, but wanted to keep them in oem condition. There aren't many options for grips. Henning's and Shooting Sports Innovations are the most popuelar. I opted for SSI's to save some $. I sure like them. If you'll be wanting to shoot limited, you can run extended mags. I bought some new ones direct from EAA and got extension kits from Henning. Sent from my SM-G928R4 using Tapatalk
  12. The ABC'S of Reloading is a book every beginner should read. The manuals have a tutorial section that should be read too. You can also find data for Hodgdons, IMR, and Winchester powder on Hodgdons website.
  13. I'll suggest the tanfoglio elite limited too. I haven't made any mods to mine yet though. One thing it has over a 1911/2011 is that the barrel sits lower so there is less muzzle flip. They are also much cheaper than a 2011 but will compete with guns that cost much more.
  14. Thanks for picking up the ball for me. Got busy and couldn't check back in till now. The farthest shot I've had at a match was a little over 300 yds. A 7x scope will handle that just fine.
  15. I'm the oddball here. I've got a Nikon M223 2-7 and am pretty content with it. I also mounted a Burris trs-25 on an offset mount for close range (in a bay). Sent from my SM-G928R4 using Tapatalk
  16. Lee makes a push through die called the bulge buster. I have it for .40, don't know if it comes in any other calibers. It has a post the mounts on the ram to push the cases or finished ammo through the die. The top of the die box mounts on top of the die to act like a hopper to hold the cases as they get pushed through the die. I shoot a Tanfoglio, they can be very finicky about the ammo they get fed. This guarantees no problems.
  17. Outers gun grease on slides and bolt rails. Most other areas get 3-in-1 or sewing machine oil (whichever is within reach). I also use clp and Remoil for certain areas. People over analyze this subject and make it too complicated. When I empty my oil bottles, they will probably get refilled with engine oil.
  18. Congrats! I can tell just from looking at the pic that you'll have fun with it.
  19. Wheel weight, but around here I have to compete against the scrap buyers. Drop the bullets from the mold into a bucket of water, it will harden them.
  20. Wow! How long did it take do do all that? Good info. I bought a chrono last week and look forward to using it as soon as I get some good weather on a weekend.
  21. I think North platte does too. Thats almost 4 hr drive though. I'm 90 mi east of G.I., and 100 west of Omsha. Hastings (70 mi west)had indoor IDPA, but it's during the week, which doesn't work for me. Columbus has cowboy action, but I'm not sure about USPSA. I've got a friend that lives by G.I. that's a tester for Hornady and occasionally shoots on their 2nd team. He wants me to go with him to one of the big 3gun matches this year. I need to know what I'm doing first!
  22. Been lurking for a year or more before I registered here. I went to my first pistol match in the fall of '09 and then another last spring. I've thought about competitive pistol shooting since high school (back in the early 80's) but didn't know how to start and the two closest ranges are 90 mi. away, so I stayed content with shooting trap since the 8th grade. My trucking business and the farm really limit my play time. I've spent the past year getting equipment ready. I plan on shooting single stack once a month and 3 gun once a month. I've got 2 1911's, one with a Marvel conversion for practice, I also built a ar15 from scratch for 3 gun and am finishing up a Saiga converson for the shotgun stages. I also was lucky enough to win an almost new EAA limited on Gunbroker for less than half the price of a new one, that will be used for 3 gun too. I am hoping to start competing next month. I am really looking forward to it, but am dreading being a middle-aged newb on the range. But, it would be worse if I didn't try at all. I Live about 90 miles from both Grand Island and Louisville. So I have 2 very nice facilities to go to.
