  1. +1. If they won't take a credit card there is a simple reason why -- they're a scam and don't want any consumer to have options to redress the matter if they don't deliver the product. Weird payment systems give the consumer no redress if they are scammed. because that money is gone for good... whether or not you receive the product you paid up front for.
  2. This thread has gotten pretty silly. The various divisions in Steel Challenge allow just about any shooter to go play. At major matches, maybe there is a fall off from one division or another. But, the local Teir 1 matches are pretty much the heart & soul of competitive shooting. So what if 2% of those shooters go to a major and complain about the number of shooters in their division? They're still in the 2%. Why should they be able to screw things up for the other 98%? Leave the game fun, and where almost any can play.
  3. I am coming to the belief, based upon 17-years experience under both Bill Wilson and Joyce Fowler leadership, that the current IDPA leadership doesn't care if it is a problem as long as members keep sending in their annual dues, and the clubs keep sending theirs. Given the membership drop and the clubs canceling, that doesn't seem to be a winning strategy for IDPA.
  4. Take a look at the Ruger 10/22 Take Down Lite. 4.5-pounds, take down feature makes for easy cleaning, and 2 different comb heights allow a degree of fitting to the shooter. It also has a threaded barrel, so a comp can be added to make sub-sonic loads be read by the timer. I went from Unclassified in Steel Challenge RFRO to A Class in just two matches with mine. Edited to add... Ruger also has their BX drop-in 10/22 trigger (which I use) that runs at 2.75-pounds. It's sweet.
  5. You're right. I haven't lately. I guess that's because Joyce keeps quickly changing the rules in a desperate attempt to stay relevant and prevent further membership losses. She's lost a bunch since she took over, and since IDPA is a for profit company she can't afford to lose too many more if she wants to keep gas in her plane.
  6. Reloading with a round in the chamber is called a "reload with retention". It's been around forever in IDPA.... all the way back to 2005, when I started shooting IDPA. It's also slower than slide lock because if there is a round in the chamber you have to remove the current magazine, even if it is empty, then stow that magazine, and then grab the new one and shove it in. Its slower than a straight slide lock reload. A slide lock reload involves less movements that can be screwed up, is more positive, and is faster. Did you not know that?
  7. There is no longer a penalty for "round dumping". So if you have to load10+1 and just want 10 before you make your slide lock reload --- just triple tap one target.
  8. OK. So, if no one is shooting SS or Production and you have one of those guns... why not just enter in Limited? They fit. And, Steel Challenge only requires a five- round string, and a reload off the clock for the next string, so magazine capacity isn't nearly as important as it is in USPSA. Or, just be the only one in your division and be Division Champion! This isn't rocket science. But it does give a lota folks a lota opportunity to compete with the guns they have. That may be why SCSA continues to grow.
  9. IMHO, the large number of divisions allow lots of shooter, at any age, to compete with what they have- against shooters with similar equipment. What's wrong that?
  10. It is definitely not recommended to use a deformed primer.
  11. A Big +1! The game is different, and the range commands, and requirements, for one don't necessarily cross over to the other. Safety is always the KEY, handle that and everybody has fun.
  12. The most popular guns in IDPA may not be the 'best gun' for an individual shooter. Glocks, S&W, CZ and others are all popular, and they work reliably. But, which one fits your hand best, and which one to you shoot accurately the fastest, are important considerations. In that respect, the 'most popular' doesn't always equate to the 'best performer' for the individual shooter.
  13. He must have read the article in NRA Shooting Sports USA a few years back. Nothing new here.
  14. Seems to be a lot of that "IDPA-like" match stuff going around. Can't blame 'em.
  15. Sounds like your club is run by wannabe Mall Ninjas. Find another club. Very few clubs, in my experience (started IDPA 2005) are that stupid.
  16. A big +1! Why wait until you have score-damaging malfs to do what would have been easy a day or two earlier? I clean & properly lube every one of my various match guns before the match they are to be fired in.
  17. I shoot a 6-inch GP-100 (with trigger work to a 7.5-pound pull) Bowen Rough County sights with a fiber optic front.. and I love it. Safariland Comp 3 speed loaders. These are not modified. A "modified" Comp 3 cost me first Expert at the 2011 IDPA World Championship with my 4.2-inch GP-100 (which is set up the same as the 6-inch). Those Rugers are rugged, smooth, and tack-drivers. The six-inch made me the first 'de facto' Florida State ICORE Classic Div champ in 2013. You won't go wrong with a 6-inch in ICORE. It's not appreciably slower than the 4-inch, and the longer sight radius saves down points.

I do not know. On a local level, training like you and I went through (with the state trainer) is non-existent... meaning they let any shooter who is sort of a regular shooter to be a SO. Doesn't work very well in my experience. I've shot some local Tier 1 matches and (being formally Certified, with the certificate) it was a zoo. I have heard (maybe wrongly) that at state & regional matches they have a trainer who can hold classes and certify. But, I do not know. I do suspect that if it costs Joyce a nickel to get a well-trained SO... she won't spend it.
  19. If the loads you are looking to create are intended for personal-defense I would strongly recommend against using handloads for personal protection. There are a number of legal pitfalls to handload use for self-defense. If they are just for practice, then .38 SC data can be used to make light handloads in a 9mm revolver for practice.
  20. There are gun clubs whose bylaws state that any club member would be allowed to shoot any match held at that club. Joyce doesn't like that because she's not getting membership fees from people who shoot IDPA matches, but have no interest in joining the organization, or shooting beyond Tier 1 level club matches. It seems that Joyce has recently decided that clubs are no longer allowed to let non-members shoot IDPA matches? I know of one NE Florida club that has been IDPA affiliated since at least 2007 that is no longer affiliated and is now holding "Defensive matches using IDPA guidelines". Another club 50 miles to the west of that one has been cancelling IDPA matches. No reason given. It's no secret that IDPA lost a lot of members when Joyce Fowler took over after "winning IDPA" when she divorced Bill. Her (paraphrase) 'Don' let the door hit ya', statement, when long time members started complaining about some of her idiot new rules (anyone remember the 'Joyce Shuffle' while reloading?). Some shooters decided to let the door hit them. After the membership drop she tried to win them back by making it USPSA Lite.... now there's something else going on that's causing clubs to drop their affiliation. One has to wonder what it is... and if IDPA actually has any adult leadership.
  21. A Big +1. If it's within the Rules it's perfectly legal. Some folks need to get over it.
  22. I also shoot an occasional IDPA match with my carry gun & carry mode. I find it very helpful... both for practice with my carry guns (Glock 29 and M&P 9mm compact) and for practice with my normal carry mode -- which in FL is gun & spare mag under a loose fitting tee shirt. It's simple & effective CC practice.
