So I worked up a new 3Gun load with a 77 SMK and IMR 8208 XBR for a 16" JP CTR-02. The velocity was not as high as I was hoping but the results were amazing. The load is shooting less than 1 MOA, it has an extremely light recoil pulse with zero pressure signs and incredible consistency. I am sure my group could have been much better with a bit more magnification and a more precise reticle. Most of the group size was aiming error as the Leupold TMR-D reticle in the Mark 6 took up the entire 1" diamond target at 100 yards. Here is the load: 77 SMK 23.0 grains of IMR 8208 XBR LC Case CCI Small Rifle Primer COAL: 2.255" Barely kissed the case mouth with a Lee FCD Here is how it turned out with the chrono with a 20 shot sample out of the 16" CTR-02: Average: 2534 fps High: 2553 fps Low: 2521 fps ES: 32 fps SD: Only 9 ! 8208 XBR is an extremely temperature stable powder so I should have very little shift from match to match..... regardless of where the match is located. With a 50 yard zero, the bullet drop is still relatively flat and corresponds with the TMR-D reticle pretty closely (approximate values): 50 zero 100 + .3 mil 200 - .18 mil 250 - .54 mil 300 - .95 mil 350 - 1.4 mil 400 - 1.9 mil 450 - 2.4 mil 500 - 2.9 mil For all intensive purposes, this should be a good 3Gun load.

I would be interested in giving that prototype comp a try if you end up with an extra one.... just PM me if you think that is possible.

Actually his dad right now... Jake and I share the account until he gets a bit older. Yep...49 grains under the 110 VMAX. Chris Hodgdon turned me on to 8208 XBR (shortage of H335 right now) and I will be working up some loads in the next couple of weeks. I have also used 46.5-47.3 grains of TAC which worked out really well but it is also a hot load. Definitely start slow and work up at these pressures or it can get away from you really quickly.

No offense to the other guns you listed as they are good guns but the JP is heads and shoulders above the other guns. If you can wait, it will make a world of difference.

I have an 18" JP LRP-07 .308 for Heavy Metal. I have the full length hand guard, Magpul UBR stock, JP Silent capture spring set up and I have a Leupold Mark 6 in a LaRue SPR 1.5 mount. With an empty PMAG inserted, my gun is exactly 11 pounds. Don't be shocked by that number, it is only slightly heavier than my friends DPMS 16" gun without optics or mag. The JP is also really well balanced. With a forward support hand grip, you can really drive the gun. Recoil with the 110 VMAX @ 3010 fps avg is extremely light for a 308 and it feel more like a 223 with a flash hider. The 110 round is hot and really makes the stock comp shine. Most other loads (150, 155, 168, 175) are still very mild compared to any other 308 I have shot. Accuracy is incredible with everything I have fired through it. With the 110 load, you are the limiting factor out to 300. If you do your part, all rounds will touch at 100 for a 5 shot group. I can't say enough good things about the gun. It makes you want get rid of your 223.

That's what I call ROI. A hard concept for alot of people to accept. I won't buy any cheap gear if their is a higher possibility that the gear will fail rendering all money spent up to that point useless. My point exactly....thanks

I have an LRP-07 and for use as a varmint rifle.... the 110 vmax 308 is very flat shooting (260 and Credmor are better), accurate and extremely low recoil. It is my 3Gun load. 110 vmax under 49 grains of H335 is good for about 3000 fps out of my 18". I get ~ .5-.65 MOA from that load. Nothing but good things to say about the gun and JP in general!

The EZ kit is a great trigger kit.... you will like it and it is really easy to install.... short of having a qualified and experienced person do a very refined trigger install.... you will probably have one of the best triggers you can install....chances are, you would not notice the difference between the EZ kit and the original (properly installed) when doing any real shooting drills.

The problem with that is that Leupold needs to hold the license for those reticles which they may or may not.....and the specific model of scope has to be able to be modified.....if you have both of those factors...you probably can get what you want....but putting someone's reticle in your scope without a license for the reticle is a the fast way to a lawsuit....

There is one easy way to deal with this....only shoot 2 3/4 and 3" shells....for 3 Gun that is all you need. OK so I have seen someone shoot a 3 1/2" load at an MGM Spinner but it was just silly and he didn't spin in a single round as he predicted.... So the rest of it is just academic at this point. Just my two cents and not trying to offend anyone....

I like the 24"....when you start getting longer than that...the extended mag tube hold a lot of rounds way out on the end of the gun and it starts to get a bit heavy when you are loading....in some of the tighter stages where there are obstacles... I can see where a 26 or 28 might be hard to maneuver with and transition quickly....but that is just my opinion.

Another great product from Carbon Arms......and if they have an award for the prettiest mag tube extension.... I think they win hands down.

Definitely Super Nova....you can not underestimate how much faster you can load with a 3.5" receiver and the lifter gate staying up and out of the way...the stock is adjustable and you can mod the loading and ejection port (although I had Trapr from RedNeck Tactical do mine) easily as they are polymer. I couldn't be happier.....but honestly.... it received the "best in class" seal of approval from Pat Kelly....there isn't much else to say after that.... Pat is the King of HM!

Mark is right....I am not sure why the 3" chamber....maybe for overall length purposes....but be glad they put the 3.5" receiver with the 3" chamber....the 3.5" receiver seemed to load much easier for me. I think the extra room makes stuffing shells in the gun a bit faster. Now I am no "PRO" at loading but it and my other 3.5" receiver guns do load faster for me.

Our light contour barrel was a cheap barrel not a JP. JP's barrels are stainless, cryo treated, air gauged and button rifled if I remember correctly. All of those factors lead to accuracy. The cheap barrel in an old gun was none of those things and it did shift when it heated up from rapid fire strings..... there is ABSOLUTELY NO COMPARISON between cheap barrels and JP barrels. The barrel is the heart of the gun....spend your money there, then the trigger, then the full float tube....then on reliable components (which you have in the Low mass group and buffer)....and you will have a fantastic gun....the barrel is the last place to cut corners! The heat sink just makes the barrel perform that much better.

Be happy you invested now.... a few months from now you might not be able to.....crying now will produce happiness and laughter later... ;~)

50.... the 7.62 reticle is set up for a 50 yard zero (it is pretty close at 200) with 175 SMKs....not sure what the 556 reticle is set up for...

I chose the Mark 6.... they are both supposed to be great scopes but I wanted the FFP reticle and the Mark 6 is lighter and shorter....once you see the glass in the Mark 6 you will realize how far Leupold has come from the Mark 4 (a good piece of glass as well)...

You simply can not go wrong with a JP... they provide a superior product and back it with world class customer service. The accuracy of the rifle will truly amaze you....feed it good ammo and get a good zero and you will be amazed at how easier it is to hit your targets.

My son's 1.5-5 Mark 4 has a SFP CMR2 reticle and he loves it....he shoots open so it is fast enough to keep up to the Top guys and it is fine enough of an aimpoint to get after the small long range targets....

Open with mag, Robert Wright,load 12 in 1.42 sec., Me 2.17 sec. Doug And that is why I shoot open with an R&R......Mr. Garcia's time is wicked fast!
