Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I broke a Faxon gen2 at about 800 rounds and some dry fire. They promtly replaced it, but I bought a Taccom. This thing looks tough! The back end is full diameter instead of stepped down, I don’t expect mushrooming. All cuts are radiused. I am ising a Hyperfire EDT with a silver spring from a 24 series, I think it is about 4 pounds. Hope this works. Dennis
  2. I haven’t shot this gun past 25 yards but the groups didn’t change, just moved. I re zeroed and it seems fine. I was just kind of surprised to see the POI shift at close range. Dennis
  3. I am using a Strike Industries ambi safety with a Hiperfire EDT and it works fine.
  4. I am wondering if anyone is getting a POI change when they install a comp. I know this can happen on rifles, but does it happen with a 9mm. I put a cheap e-bay single port comp on my 16" PSA barrel and it shoots a little low and right now, but I have a cheaper Primary Arms red dot (can you tell I am cheap?) that might be failing, so I am curios about POI shift with the comp. Thanks Dennis
  5. I am slowly building a 9mm ar that I just put in a YHM 9mm buffer. The bolt still travels 1/2" past the bolt stop. Is this too far? I don't want to break the bolt stop. Thanks Dennis
  6. CZ 85C is flat instead of angled. I think it is your only store bought option. I have one on my 75b and it is better than stock and also SSP legal.
  7. Does this become a problem when using lighter weight firing pin springs or extended firing pins? I have a CGW lighter spring in my 75 that has worked fine so far, but now i am wondering if I should put the stock spring back in. Dennis
  8. CZ85 Combat from CZ USA is the only extended mag release I could find when I recently bought mine. Dennis

    DAWSON FRONT SIGHTS

I put the .215 blade on my 75 with CZC tactical rear thinking I would need a little more height than the .170 and I could file it to my needs. I finally finished filing and guess what I have? The .170 I could have bought! I am shooting 124gr. at about 1100 fps and am hitting POA at 50 ft. Dennis
  10. The whole "gray area" is what I am trying to avoid. I will probably never go beyond local matches, and at that level I doubt anyone would notice or care what I have changed. I guess I just want to play by the rules and not see how far I can push them. I have shot two club matches in ESP because I normally shoot cocked and locked and am more comfortable not changing things until I get more comfortable with IDPA shooting. I guess I have answered my own question, Just shoot ESP! Does the pre-travel screw make the gun single action only? Thanks, Dennis
  11. I have a CZ 85C extended mag release and have straightened the trigger a little by bending it over a socket in a vice. Do these modifications put my CZ 75B into ESP, or can I still shoot SSP with it? It is my understanding that if the factory makes the part and it is used on a IDPA legal gun, it should be ok. The trigger is stock but looks somewhat different than it did. I am a new IDPA shooter and want to play by the rules, but I think I want to shoot SSP. Thanks, Dennis
  12. Dr.Crawford at the Eye Care Center Of Lake County made mine. I think they have an office in Vernon hills. He had me bring my gun to my normal exam. If you go there, call him in advance. He said some of the people in the office are a little nervous around guns. Cost me just aver $100 for basic polycarbonate lenses in my old frames. Dennis
  13. I would love to try ICORE. Unfortunately for me, I live just north of Chicago and there is not much shooting sports in my area. Two ranges within driving distance shoot IDPA though, so I am planning to give that a try. Most of my shooting is at paper targets on indoor ranges. I have shot more revolver than pistol, the CZ is relatively new. I have to say shooting the revo (when I have a good day!) is more satisfying than the pistol. Dennis
  14. I started shooting action pistol(very informal)at a local club this year. I have been shooting my CZ 75B until this week. I decided to shoot my S&W 4" model 19. What a blast! I bought some comp III loaders and made holders from PVC pipe, didn't want too invest too much money until I tried it. I was worried about reloading, but my bigger problem was hitting bowling pins! Slow down and aim the gun I guess. One other guy shoots a 625 occasionally, so I am kind of the only revolver guy. There was quit a bit of interest in my gun though, so maybe some other guys will dig theirs out of the safe and give it a go. I might finish out the season with the Smith even though I am not competitive with the bottom feeders. I think I had more fun than with the CZ. Next stop, local IDPA! Dennis
  15. This is a little off the OP's subject, but since Buster9mil brought up laser training devices I have been thinking about them. Will using these devices take your attention off the front sight where your attention needs to be (for training to shoot with metallic vs laser ) sights and onto the target to see if you "Hit it"? Seems like the laser sight Walsh is talking about would require you to focus on the target which would be the opposite of your goal of using the training device. I guess I am asking if the laser trainer would cause bad aiming habits. Dennis
