  1. Ran into this issue yesterday at a match; going fast and overran the gun. I'll verify it's a problem (make sure it's not me), but once I do, I need to get this done. Do you know of any smiths offering this mod? Benl, I am not answering for Matt in TN, but I use an 870 in 3 gun competitions (and have done so for many years) and I had this exact same problem. A place just did this modification for me (a few weeks ago). I shot my 870 with the modified part in a match this past weekend and it worked perfectly. No malfunctions at all The place that did the modification is a company in Maryland called Gun Metal Inc. http://www.gunmetalusa.com/ They are a relatively new and small company, and I couldn't find much information on them before I contacted them. I spoke to the owner a few times about doing this modification. His name is Michael Semenuk. There is also at least one active 3 gun competitor who works there too. I spoke with him too, and they both seem like good guys. I felt odd approaching them with a custom project like this. But they were happy to help and did a great job. The whole process went very smoothly. It could not have gone easier. I posted a detailed review of this in another thread here: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=203384 But i am posting here in case you miss it. I will also cut and paste my same disclaimer: "I have no business or personal relationship with Gun Metal Inc. (or anyone there). I am just a happy customer. I actually did not know they existed until I contacted them about this project (very recently). I also did not get anything to post any of this information. I paid for this work (and will pay for future work) just like anyone else would." Let me know if you have any questions. I was extremely happy this worked out so easily. I love this shotgun and fixing this problem saved me from buying a Browning A5! Joe Mamma
  2. I want to thank Matt in TN for documenting his problems and the solution so well. I should thank StealthyBlagga too, and I agree he is a friggin' genius. I have a Remington 870 that I have been using in 3 gun competitions for years. I use a long Choate mag extension. About a year or two ago it started giving me problems exactly like Matt in TN described above. The problems were slowly happening more frequently, and I could not figure out exactly what was going on (before I found this thread). I spent a LOT of time trying to figure it out. People were trying to tell me I was short stroking it, and I knew I wasn't. But I was cycling the action very quickly, and now realize that caused "shell surge" failure to feed malfunctions. I found this thread and a light bulb went off in my head. I realized the action bar modification described above would probably work for me too. Unfortunately, I cannot weld. So my problem was finding someone that could do the work. After some online searching and phone calls, I found a small and new company that does custom gun work. The company is Gun Metal Inc. (located in Millersville, Maryland): http://www.gunmetalusa.com I spoke directly with the owner Michael Semenuk, described the problem, and emailed him StealthyBlagga's picture of the original and modified tube assembly/action bars. Having the ruler in the picture was a great idea StealthyBlagga. Michael said this would be an easy project for his company. I was a little skeptical, but we talked some more and I gave him the part (the fore-end tube assembly with action bars). I told Michael that it needed to be a quality job from a functional and reliable perspective because this is a competition gun. So his work had to hold up to heavy use. But, I did not care about how the modified part looked cosmetically. When I got it back from him, I was very impressed. They did the work quickly, the quality of the work was very high, and the price was fair. Gun Metal Inc. did such a good job modifying the part that it looks like it came that way originally from the Remington factory. Gun Metal even machined the new beveled edge on the action bar to perfectly match the angle of the other beveled edge (originally done at the Remington factory). I'm not sure what they did to finish it cosmetically, but it matched the Remington factory bluing perfectly too. I have already shot it and the finish seems to be wearing well, and not any differently than the areas on the tube assembly/action bars where Gun Metal Inc. did not work on it. I shot the gun in a 3 gun match last weekend (using lots of birdshot and slugs) and it worked perfectly. I am extremely happy with it. I wanted to provide some information on who can do this modification for anyone else looking to have this work done. I'm sure there are many other 870 shooters who have this problem. Obviously it's always better to go to someone who has done it before, and I can certainly vouch for Gun Metal Inc. now. At some point this summer, I am probably going to send Gun Metal 1 or 2 more tube assemblies/actions bars so I have backup parts or parts for other 870s. * I have no business or personal relationship with Gun Metal Inc. (or anyone there). I am just a happy customer. I actually did not know they existed until I contacted them about this project (very recently). I also did not get anything to post any of this information. I paid for this work (and will pay for future work) just like anyone else would. Joe Mamma
  3. I have a few questions about this match. I would appreciate it if someone could answer these. I sent emails to Charles and the Tarheel 3-gun "info" email address a while ago. But I never got a response. Will participants be able to shoot the match in one day, or will they have to shoot over two days? Approximately how many stages will there be and what is the maximum distance? I know these aren't set now. But I want to at least get an idea of whether the longest rifle shot will be something like 150 yards or 500 yards . . . I've been to the facility before, so I know the possibilities could be wide open (literally). Thanks. Joe Mamma
  4. So, he bullied you, because you you let him where others wouldn't. It was somebody else's duty to report him. Got it. Ha ha, nice Flexmoney. So it's a "blame the victim" situation to you. Got it. I didn't know where you stood with your first comment, and I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. But now it's pretty clear with that second comment. Joe Mamma
  5. Did not realize who I was talking to. Sorry about that. pat Tagged for results if you take him up on his offer. Please post results in this thread if you do. Joe Mamma
  6. Your silver carbon fiber hand guards are definitely the coolest looking hand guards (no pun intended). I just can't get over the no holes or slots in yours, despite that being a superior design. Joe Mamma
  7. MarkCO or anyone else, what are the problems with slotted carbon fiber tubes? Joe Mamma
  8. What do you guys like for free float hand guards (for a 5.56/223 AR and low profile gas block) and why? I see the JP hand guards (Modular and Rapid Configuration) are about twice as expensive as Nordic or AP Custom. Are they better? I spoke to someone at Nordic about the various brands and options. But he couldn't really explain the differences (other than price). Thanks. Joe Mamma
  9. I shot this match and it was great. As far as I'm concerned, this is the best shooting match there is. Someone mentioned that this is now the largest falling steel match in the United States. That's nice to hear because it deserves that kind of recognition. The Polish plate rack was tough. I had never seen one before, and I shot it the wrong way. But hopefully it will be back next year because I'll be ready! Also, the more Texas stars, the better. * Thank you to the people who organized this match and worked it. I cannot imagine how hard it is to set up and run this match. In case anyone is wondering, it was 182 targets total. Bring back the side matches! The more shooting the better. Joe Mamma
  10. It's a well known problem on recently manufactured (within the last 10 years or so) 870 Express guns. I don't know if yours is an 870 Express Super Mag. It's often ammo dependant too. The problem has something to do with the chamber. There is usually a burr, bad surface finish or something like that. I would suggest that you send the gun back to the factory to be fixed. Hopefully it is still under warranty. Joe Mamma
  11. Yes you would think that Denny would have done well with the revolver, but I did not hear anyone on the show complaining about him saying he was not use to the trigger or the revolver not set-up like his. Also they both said that they did not know how to play poker and I guess it showed. What a way to go out. I didn't watch this episode. But, it sounds like they are getting worse and worse, which is sad. Here's hoping there is no Season 2 Joe Mamma
  12. Maybe there are different kinds but, I bought "biodegradable" airsoft pellets from Atlanta Airsoft. I don't care what anyone says, these are NOT biodegradable. Yes, I've left them out in my yard, put them in a glass of water, etc. But, they behave no differently than plastic pellets. The biodegrable ones that I have are plastic pellets with a hard ceramic/clay type of core. Well after testing them and being unimpressed, I called Atlanta Airsoft to ask them about the lack of biodegradable properties in their biodegradable pellets from my informal testing. The guy said something like, "Well, overseas, their definition of biodegradable is different from here in the US." I can respect that Atlanta airsoft is trying to make a buck. But, he and I both knew these aren't biodegradable. He's also the one that explained to me that they are not solid plastic, if you crush them with a pair of pliers, you can tell. He said that non-plastic center core is what allows them to be called "biodegradable." That's pretty lame. Joe Mamma
  13. I'm just got a pair of Radians Pro-amp earmuffs and am very disappointed. I researched purchasing a pair of electronic earmuffs for a long time before getting these. This thread was one of the many that I read. The problem is that my ears don't fit into the ear cup! I never thought I had big ears but now, I'm not so sure! I have a pair of slim Peltor Shotgunner muffs that have a NRR of 21. The Radians have an NRR of 23. But, the Shotgunners block out MUCH more than the Radians because the Radians don't even seal completely around my ears. My suggestion is to try them on first if you are thinking about buying them. I'm probably going to sell these so, if someone is interested, let me know. Joe Mamma
  14. The best thing is to go to an art supply store and get a silver colored Sharpie fine point marker. I think they just changed the official name of the color to "metallic" from "silver" or vice versa. The paint pens leave something that will wear off easily. Joe Mamma
  15. I shot this match this past weekend. It was an excellent match, very well run. Thank you RO's and everyone else who contributed to this successful event. Joe Mamma
  16. Can anyone provide more informationon this place, like an address and phone number? Thanks. I tried to find it on the internet but came up with nothing. I'll be at this match and eating steaks, I mean shooting Production. Joe Mamma
  17. It was an awesome match Kay. Thanks to everyone involved for all your hard work. For those who missed it, there is no other match like this in the world. I kid you not. I'll be back next year. Joe Mamma
  18. The weather was great. I shot yesterday (Saturday) morning and afternoon. I got a 190 in Open Auto, and a 204 in Stock Auto. In Stock auto, I had a high primer on one of my reloads so, that caused a jam. I would have been under 200 without that problem. I'm no threat to the top guys but, those are pretty decent scores for me. Joe Mamma
  19. Is it legal change the recoil spring and/or guide rod for USPSA Production class and Limited class? Thanks for your response. Joe Mamma
  20. It's a great match. I was there last year and shot the shotgun sidematch too. I'll be there again this year. Joe Mamma
  21. "Is it from surrender or hands at sides? Reloads from table or belt required?" I am not sure about drawing from a holster. I know it is allowed but, I don't know what position your hands have to be in. I believe most people start with the gun in hand, muzzle touching the table. Unfortunately, if you are starting with the gun in hand, the hammer has to be down or the safety has to be on. It's not like shooting bowling pins. Reloads are allowed from the belt or off of the table. Joe Mamma
