Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Thanks for the info guys. I have about 1k of WSF rounds left so it is time to work up some tightgroup and WST loads. Den
  2. Thanks for the reply wgj3! I tried to google an explanation of why some powders recoil less than others and found that a lot of shooters disagree with me. They think that if the projectile weight and velocity is the same then the felt recoil will be the same. I agree that the recoil may be the same, just different and would just like to know why. To me the difference in felt recoil is a big deal and my scores reflect this in a positive way. Thanks for the tip about WST. Denny
  3. I shoot IDPA and switched to WSF powder years ago from Power Pistol. How can I logically explain to friends why WSF shoots softer with less muzzle rise than Power Pistol? 9mm 147gr 875fps. XDm 5.25. Thanks! Denny
  4. I too started at the age of 56. When I got my carry permit and my Ruger SR9c training was needed. So I cold turkey showed up at an IDPA match and gave it a whirl. Most of the time I shoot two matches a month and I am almost 60 now. I shot my 9c for 3000 rounds and now compete with a XDM 5.25 9mm. I have also shot some 3gun and steel challenge. I finish right in the middle of local matches and State matches also. I will never forget my first stages and my first taste of match stress. Denny
  5. I used Power Pistol for IDPA then I read here at B.E. that PP kicks like a mule. I took the advice and bought a pound of WSF and I will never go back to PP for 147gr 9mm! At the same power factor WSF feels like a powder puff load. They say Tightgroup is even better but I couldn't find any at the time. If you look in the 9mm index some shooters may agree with me. Den
  6. I am very happy with my polymer coated 147gr from a local company called Leatherhead bullets. You would have to use coarse sandpaper to remove the coating. Den
  7. I clasified today in CCP with my carry weapon, a Ruger SR9c. I have to work on the trigger and I couldn't get the mags to drop. That silly extended mag kept sticking to my hand. A shooter in my squad had a HK VP9 for CCP and it was really sweet! We all shot it after the match and I couldn't believe how accurate it was and how nice the trigger was. Pretty pricey...7 bills with tridium sights and three mags. 6 bills with standard sights and two mags. Denny
  8. I have two loads to talk about. Weapon is an XD9 5.25, 16lb spring. 147gr Leatherhead coated fp's mixed brass with CCI primers, 1.140 Power Pistol loaded to 900fps: snappy recoil, and larger than I like muzzle rise. WSF loaded to 900fps: Light push for recoil and 1 inch muzzle rise. The same WSF load out of mr SR9c for the new CCP division was 840-850fps and would cycle the 9c's heavy recoil spring just fine. Den
  9. I had 14 light strikes with CCI primers one IDPA match. 9mm 5.25. I found way too much oil in my striker channel. Some things we learn the hard way. I now run my striker dry. Den
  10. I know this is an old topic. I started IDPA with my SR9c and stopped at 3000 rounds. The weapon ran perfect and I now compete with an XDm 5.25. A quick call to Ruger will have a new extractor in the mail to you no charge or they will pay the shipping and you wil have the weapon back in a week. Den
  11. Thanks Guys. I shoot with some guys from work and we had fun with the "don't drop it" jokes. I will hit the range today and check my sights as they might have been bumped. I was fighting my loose thin cover shirt all night also so thats another change to make. I will slow down and watch my weapon holster. Denny
  12. Impact guns here in Boise puts on a small indoor IDPA match once a month. On the last stage after load and make ready, I missed my holster and droped my weapon. No excuse! It was slow motion and I caught the weapon with my foot and it bounced a foot in front of us. XDM 5.25 9mm. I stayed and taped and brass. At home I geared back up and found out the changes needed. I am so worried when I holster that I back my grip to release the grip safety and the weapon slipped out of my hand when I missed the holster. I have learned from this. Denny
  13. I think they are $35 from springfield. Den
  14. Thanks for the replies. Right now my load is a 147gr lead flat point over 4gr Power Pistol @ 900 fps. CCI primers. my 14lb recoil spring is doing fine with the standard striker spring. I could see how an over power striker spring could keep the slide from going into battery. I,m still going to order a spring gage just so I can keep track of all my springs for all my weapons. Den
  15. Hi, I shoot IDPA here in Idaho. Started with my carry weapon, a Ruger SR9c and shot it apx 3000 rounds and now have a XDm 9 5.25 that I have installed all the upgrades. My weapon likes 147gr lead and I am tuning the slide and working up loads with Power Pistol and I will pick another powder to try. Anyway, great forum and great people here!
