  1. Per Powder Valley...

Great news for the Vihtavuori lovers. Meeting with the good folks from Lapua and it has been announced that Nammo has purchased the Vihtavuori plant. At least 4 powder containers will arrive this year with promised improvements in production capacity for future years!

  2. I want to make the angled cut parallel to the cooking serrations. Anyone ever seen one like that?

I have the same thing in mind for when I get around to it: 11 degrees (pretty sure...) and flat on the front. Mine will also have a portless comp to extend the sight radius and create a "sight tracker" effect.

I did some measuring and I got 19 degrees for the angle on the serrations; can anyone else confirm or deny this?

I measure at 17 degrees (73). Cheap protractor though so use at your own risk.

I had 15 (75) degrees as nominal. Being an engineer I wouldn't choose 17 or 19 when designing a new part since they are prime numbers. :goof:

  3. I ran some of the 125 gr 9mm in my Shadow behind VV320 and Clays and they worked flawlessly. They were not quite as accurate as my Montana Gold Hollow points but they will be just fine. I should mention there was no load development for this comparison just my normal 4.2 gr of 320 and 3.6 and 3.7 gr of Clays. I went ahead and bought 3600 but my "buddy" just relieved me of 1200.

  4. I don't suppose you'd be willing to take on work would you? I'm in state, and have been looking everywhere to find someone to checker one.

I don't have an FFL. Also, knowing my luck and amateur status something would go seriously wrong ;) I appreciate the offer though.

  5. Huskerlrrp,

Have you done any checkering work on other pistols? Interested how the hardness of the CZ frame would compare to other brands. I have done a couple of stainless 1911's in the past, just wondering what kind of a pain I will be in for if I decide to try a CZ.

I've found a Caspian cast stainless frame to be easier than this frame material. However, I probably should have used a new checkering file to be fair. By all means it's doable, it was just slow. Plus, I'm an amateur.

I wanted the top row to have the full pyramid (not too sharp, I left a flat) but I didn't want that big undercut. I couldn't figure a way around it... I'm pleased though.

  6. Wow! Tell us about the checkering on the back strap, was it recut?

After the grip reduction I did it with a hand checkering file. Wanted to do the front too, but didn't have an offset file. Regardless, it was a pain in the butt. Apparently, the frames are made in an investment cast process, so they are hard as heck.

  7. Just got this put back together. Thanks to Canyon Creek for welding a piece of metal for the safety extension, Cheely Custom for machining the slide, CZ Custom for the bushing and Yousef and IonBond for the coating.

  8. As much as I appreciate CZ Custom's work, the AccuShadow will not overcome the lack of natural ability or hard work. It's the CZ97 bushing concept in the CZ75.

Will I buy one? Ya probably. Still Ben and Eric will kick my @ss.

  9. I use these:

    http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/aka-aluminum-ipsc-speed-magazine-pouch-full-set-silver.html

I know... airsoft stuff in USPSA but, they are half the price of the Double Alpha mag pouches and are built mechanically identical. I've been pushing mine hard for a little over a year now and they have held up strong. A few guys in my local clubs have now bought them as well for their STIs. I use them on my TS in .40.

I have also bought the fake CR Speed ones for $15 each and beat the hell out of them for a few years they hold up well but, these aluminum one are classy looking, and really tuff.

So someone knocked of Saul and his boys at DAA's hard work and is selling on Ebay....

I'll pass until China's intellectual property laws meet or exceed Europe's or North Americas. Yes, I went there.

    Until then here's DAA's link.

  10. Amazingly they are located just down the road from the shop for Lucky 13 Bullets. Who knew Kernersville, NC would become the bullet manufacturing hub for North Carolina.

I think lead exposure would explain a lot around here. :goof:

I saw these bullets today at the Gun Rack (great store in Kernersville). I talked an old man into buying a bag. I didn't know they were in North Carolina. If it's Nathan's company then I wish them the best of luck. His dad and him seem like pretty good guys.

I just finally bought some Lucky 13 bullets last week and they mentioned they will be adding some copper plated in the future.

Worst case I will use them for practice and best case they will replace my Montana Golds.

  11. I love my 97B, which started as a BE from CGW. I've added ambi safeties, taken out the fpb, put in a short reset disconnector, put on some sights from CZC since they fit my eye better than the CGW, and cut down some nils grips. The thing feels great, has a remarkable trigger, is as accurate as a laser and hardly recoils. However, I shoot my shadow in production. I may someday try the 97 in limited 10, but haven't done so yet.

I'd be interested in seeing a picture of your short reset disconnector and ambi safties in your 97BE.

  12. I had my friend in the machine shop at work help me machine the slot into my factory TS hammer. It came out much better than my at home version. I also sanded the edges and cold blued the whole thing.

It feels pretty good! It came in at 0.654 oz with the strut and pin (couldn't get them off). That was from the factory configuration of 0.748 oz. (reduced by 0.094 oz) Still not quite the feel of the ultra light hammer on my SV, but it is definitely a step in the right direction.

    attachicon.gif20131115_182516 (1280x720).jpgattachicon.gif20131115_182605 (1280x720).jpgattachicon.gif20131115_224134 (720x1280).jpgattachicon.gif20131115_224146 (1280x720).jpg

So far I'm very happy with the results, and I have a match on Wednesday to test it out. I am thinking about doing the same thing to my CZC Competition hammer, to bring the reset back down a little shorter.

Before I start cutting into it though, I wanted to ask if anyone thinks this modification, with the slot, could weaken the hammer and cause breakage problems down the road. I am just concerned about the sharp inside corners of the cut causing stress risers. The hammer is after all pretty heavily battered during use. Does anyone know if the Koenig hammers have a shorter life than normal ones? Do they have sharp corners on the inside of the cut down the middle of them?

Why not use a ball end mill? You get the benefit of the doubt if there are some side loads to cause some stress in the corners. My educated guess is that it doesn't matter in this area, for this purpose. Besides, we are all doing some stupid stuff to our firearms...just because.

  13. Adjustable sights can break. Pick a good load and get the right sight combination and stop worrying about it. Most 125 grain loads are gonna be pretty close with the shadow rear and a Dawson .170 front

I've had fixed sights come loose too :surprise: . Nothing like a wandering rear sight at an area shoot to mess with your head!

  14. Very nice. I'll be in Swabia

They're in Stuttgart. You could combine a visit with a cruise on the Rhine and tours of castles for a memorable vacation.

I wonder if I could take an aristocrat slide back home with me?

I wonder too. I'm actually going there in Dec.

    Hometown.

I'm also going to be there in December. Why don't you buy one for a poor "once removed" Karlsruhe transplant? It's the least you wealthy Stuttgart natives could do.

  16. ...you can ride the like the ones on the Tanfoglio Limited/Limited Pro that is legal for the Production division?

Well considering that for production you need to lower the hammer on the gun you can't use the safety anyway so for me it's sort of a moot point. Unless you are trying to build a gun that is legal for both limited and production.

Yeah my problem is that the Shadow doesn't fill my hand up well so I never shoot it. And I have alot of trouble with recoil control with it (I don't have that problem with the Glocks...including 24 and 35 that I shoot major out of.) Then I shot a Tanfoglio Limited and the wide safety just felt right to me and the gun shot flat...so I was thinking maybe a wider safety would get my hand more comfortable on the gun. I know I've heard 1911/2011 shooters say that they like to rest their thumb on a nice wide safety...

Sounds like you need to get larger grips to me. (just an observation)

  17. If you are mildly mechanically inclined and run reloads (Federal Primers) you can get those DA/SA numbers down. Cajun Gun Works has some nice reduced trigger springs and mainspring parts.

I hope if you are were not happy with CZ Custom stuff you mentioned it to them and allowed them to make it right. They seem to be pretty good "dudes".

  18. No, it's not you. It's the weapon. I'll take it off your hands for much less money....just because I'm a good Christian.

Honestly, it would be hard to tell. I will say that some guns don't like certain ammo. I'd try different loads and also run it in single action mode if you are not used to the double action break.
