Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I am making the switch from a Bladetech DOH to the RM, I'm just getting into IPSC from rifle, so my comments aren't worth much. I have the left handed model, works great, setup went fine, no issues using it with my STI 2011. I like the fact that I can use it with my carry STI VIP also, just makes practice in the basement with the .22 upper nice with both guns. The reason I switched to the RM was to get a little more room for my thumb to ride on top of the safety while the gun was holstered. From the dry fire I can tell it works better, my draws seem smoother, and the gun is very secure both locked and unlocked. I'm glad I made the switch sooner rather than waiting.
  2. After seeing standing upright it appeared to be about 3 feet away and also about 3 feet in diameter. In reality it was about 8" diameter and I'm sure it was the corect distance away. My point was that I stopped at the end of the "L" shape directly facing the steel, but only saw the normal paper targets on either side of it.
  3. Glad I read this thread, had my first FTE last Saturday in my third match. I'm starting to turn up the speed some now that I feel a little more comfortable with the safety aspects of matches. I was the third shooter in the stage so I didn't tape or reset, and it was a simple "L" shaped stage, very straight forward. At the end of my string the RO said "IF the shooter is done..." trying to nudge me to shoot the obvious steel plate three feet away! Even though I didn't see it since it was low at my feet, had I counted rounds vs. targets I might have picked it up. I did get a "Nice string, except for" from the RO, so I'm improving, but there is a lot to do right. This is addicting though!
  4. I agree about heading to a match, see if there is one in your area. I contacted the nearest match director, read up on the rule book, then reread the sections on safety. I think if you show up knowing the basics and are willing to first work on the safety issues, you will be accepted most places. From there you can watch, listen, ask, and learn.
  5. Not that anyone should need more conformation, but I spent the better part of an evening helping a local teenager remover two slugs from a Ruger. I didn't want to scratch the bore, so I turned down some aluminum stock to press them out. Factory loads too. Ruger’s are tough guns, work fine after clearing the bore.
  6. Ok, this topic has helped me understand why the CALC button doesn't give me a score. I now see that if there isn't an asterik the data isn't usable. I shot my second match and was curious how I did. If it would help, here is a link to the results of the match at: San Juan Shooters - Colorado Match Results - 10/09/2010 San Juan Shooters 10/9/10 Stage 3 was CM09-02 Don't know if this is of any help, but thanks for all you do, the calculator is neat!
  7. I've only shot two matches so far, so this isn't worth much, but after reading up here (this web site is great for Newbies!) I use a Blade Tech DOH. Shooters Connection had a left hand in stock that fits my STI. The only issue was the mount, it came with the belt loop style, when I tried to use it on my equally new DAA belt the adjustment spacer bar just plain won't work. The extra thickness of the belt defeats the locking bar's design. I had extra Lok-Tek mounts, one of which I used, it is a tight fit but seem secure.
  8. I am researching this question as well. I have some Blade Tech holders leftover from some HK gear, but I just switched over to an STI 2011. I can get by with my BT gear, but are the above brands significantly better?
  9. Just wanted to post a "hello", new to the forum and just getting ready to explore IPSC/IDPA type shooting. Been a dedicated high power rifle shooter, time to explore some other shooting sports. Bought a copy of Brian's book, look forward to learning a lot. If anyone is near Buena Vista, CO, shoot me an PM, I can use some pointers I'm sure.
