  1. Er, uh, Mr Kelley... What is that round thing sitting atop your rifle where the rear sight should be? Somebody give Patrick his rifle back, please... :)

We just built a rifle for a fella and it came out "pretty light" It hit that balance of light enough to move fast and heavy enough to feel solid and stay on target when fired I believe Mr Kelley is describing. To each their own, but all of the solid advice you will receive on this topic has been given by some pretty darn good shooters..

That my friend is a new "optic weight system"!

  2. DUDE! Pick one and practice! Go cheap and buy another and then another, because you WILL!

    Sorry that was mean...

Muzzle brakes do not make the gun nor does it make the podium, you and skill do.

Pick up a 40 buck Miculek and rock on brother, enjoy the party that is 3Gun!

  3. I am not an advocate for anything LW for LW sake. LW does not equal good or fast handling.

For a bit the 3GN TV show was hyping the LW guns...the top guys used and left them and some still use them.

My point is LW is not an attribute so much as a desire. (a desire without hard evidence that it helps)

LW handguns? LW polymer guns rule...except that 2011 rule in USPSA and now the trend is steel grips on 2011's

LW shotguns? For hunting sure...everywhere else...nope.

LW carbines? For carry sure and for some competitors yes, but for most....no.

  4. << Is your shotgun going to be as light and fast? >>

Getting a reliable and durable shotgun that light would be pretty tough, not to mention recoil would probably be high. My Mossberg 930 Pro Series with our comp package which includes a 24" barrel and 11 round magazine comes in just over 8 lbs. There is plenty of area's to take out weight so it should be possible to get under 7 lbs fairly easily. Might get expensive ...

I am sorry Bob...I am being a butthead.

LW AR's if you like them are fine, but do not provide a "winning edge" in any area other than very close and hose'em.

Shotguns need to be MOVED as we only shoot one round per target and transitions are key...so the gun that needs to be fast

in transition is not as fast as the gun that needs no be.

It is not some awesome skill set that lets me do this with a 9.5# rifle.

  5. What about building a fairly light rifle, say somewhere around 5-5.5 lbs and then add an adjustable add-on weight system that attaches right in front of the barrel nut. And it is movable towards the muzzle to allow for changing the balance point as well as total weight.

That is a good idea and one you should explore. Is your shotgun going to be as light and fast? (more important as transitions and not "double taps" are the norm)

  6. Reading the past posts on the VM concerning the feed latch... some say to bend it ...some say to extend the cut.

I know that some of you have extended the cut. After all of these years/months how well has your feed latch with an extended cut fared? Has it snapped? Lost tension early? Would you do it again?

    Thanks.

It "was" a routine mod in my little shop and while all of mine are still going strong, I would probably bend and polish in the future.

  7. I'm interested in feedback on how the Vortex Spitfire reticle works on smaller targets with the 3 MOA center dot. I've been using an Eotech that's having problems with reticle fade so I'm going to get a refund and need a replacement. Sometimes the targets are fairly small or obscured and the 1 MOA center dot on the Eotech works well for that. Would a Spitifre work well in that kind of situation? Also, is the Spitfire a true 1X?

IMO, it is as close to true 1x as I need, and I am very sensitive to that. I think the center dot is much easier to use for accuracy because it is so much crisper than an Eotech.

I was surprised how well it worked for me. Much better than the microdot it replaced. I love it and will never go back to red dots. I rarely use or need illumination, but when I do it is Arizona daylight bright and in green or red. It is a giant bargain from a price/performance perspective, imo.

Disclaimer: I am not P.E. Kelley, lol.

    Somedays I ain't either!

  8. Kings was my go to but are out of production. The EGW is very close in construction so that is where I would go. The single best move was for me to heat and bend the right side paddle so it makes hard contact with the grip when off. Hard to break them set up like that.

  9. Anyone run a stock M3000/M3k then send to MOA and compare the two? I don't shoot 3gun much but I want one nice shotgun. I have a lot of nice pistols and an nice custom AR but shotgun is just a pump 500.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes I have. I have built my own guns for decades. MOA's work is top notch and well worth the too low a price.

  10. Update on my health issues-

The surgeon pulled the plug on my hip surgery 3 days before it was supposed to happen. He is concerned that because of my Crohn's disease and the fact that Immune Suppressants and Steroids have been used to treat it that I am more prone to infection than he would like. In the meantime, I had been off of the immune suppressants since November prepping for the surgery so my Crohn's symptoms have been flaring badly. So now, they won't do surgery until my Crohn's is better, but don't want me to take the drugs that help with the Crohn's. Now I am looking for another surgeon who understands that I am willing to risk a surgical infection to regain some mobility. It has been severely depressing losing the ability to do the things in life that I get enjoyment from, and toughing out each day just trying to get enough work done to feed the kids when I hurt too much to ANYTHING afterwards. I can't even sit on the bleachers long enough to watch my sons play little league games. Trying some supplements and other things to help, but because I have already had so much of my intestines removed through surgeries I don't get much benefit from them. Looking for long term solutions, but not seeing a lot of avenues at this point. All of your well-wishes and support have been greatly appreciated, and I hope at some point to get back in the game.

You are amazing my friend. You have lived a rough road and still chug along. That is who you are and you are admired for it.
