  1. This^^^ And I also kinda want some solid Open GM to always win the faux HOA title so that nobody can complain that "those rifles just make it too easy to win the (nonexistent) HOA title"... But I would be perfectly OK with PCC's taking positions 2-10 in the overall standings...if there were such a thing...
  2. Think I bought the last 6" 2011 WRS holster from Shooters Source a week or so back. If you can find someone else that still has one in stock, that's a great option... Lots of other suggestions in this thread. May have to go to a "custom" maker for active retention for 6" gun though...
  3. It doesn't seem to fit into IDPA as well... Maybe it would be better if I tried it, but it seems that numerous IDPA MD's aren't really on board.
  4. Definitely not rich! Started shooting with a .45 in SS. Local shooter was a S&W rep and got me into a 5" M&P .40 for a good deal. Shot it for everything for a while. Got a 9mm version for 3-gun. Then, one of the guys I had learned a bunch from was ready to "upgrade" his 6" .40 2011. Sold me the pistol with 3 mags for $1500 if I recall correctly. Parts of the pistol came from at least 3 of the various guys that I still shoot with some; suspect the frame had upwards of 30K rds on it when I got it and I've added at least 10K. Still shoots great. Its not the tightest fitting gun anymore, but barrel still locks up well and accuracy is fantastic and it just runs and runs. Found a great "deal" (better than $3K, but not $5K+) on a barely used SV a couple years ago. Still shoot the first one better... About 3 months ago, a local guy was liquidating some guns he no longer shoots. I was able to snag an 18-ish year old SV with plastic grip for $400. Basically the deal of a lifetime. It had been shot a bunch and need a little TLC, but with about $200 worth of parts and gunsmith fees and a $175 melonite treatment, it looks great again and runs fine; into it for around $850 or so. Its all about patience and being ready to jump when the right deal pops up. I think that all 3 were great deals for what I got and I still have all 3.
  5. Don't know if you need remchoke or probore of truchoke though...

  7. Push rifle out and toward opposite side with strong hand while letting weak hand slide up handguard to magwell. Grip magwell with weak hand, complete tradition to opposite side and push buttstock back into weak shoulder while sliding strong hand out onto handguard. Establish grip on handguard with strong hand and slide weak hand to grip and then establish firing grip and start blasting again...
  8. This will ultimately depend on your barrel/chamber. I use the FCD in most all the calibers that load. I do not have any issues in MY .40 barrels; one STI with TON or rounds through it, an SV barrel that hasn't been shot all that much, and a Schuemann that has a bunch of rounds through it. Perfectly fine in my S&W M&P .40' S as well. If you happen to have a gun with a tighter chamber you might have a different experience...
  9. Above post is important as far as knowing what you are trying to accomplish... I have used a bunch of it and "Promo" to make Major PF for USPSA SS and IDPA CDP. Red Dot is a bit cleaner than Promo and has a different density. I have used it with projectiles from 155gr cast (not so awesome for me) to 230gr jacketed and coated. Should be fine with coated bullets in the 185-230gr range. Should be able to find plenty of data to get you to a starting point and then adjust from there to get desired PF/MV/recoil level...
  10. Rip out crappy front sight. Cut for a Dawson FO. Use existing rear. Drop in a Wilson beavertail and hammer; "Value" line. Pick up someone's used "extended" mag release and clean out hole and clip a coil or 2 off the spring. Bevel mag opening with a file. Use existing rear sight and "hold" for POI as needed. Snag a set of used mags off here. I'm a big fan of the Dawson's which I'm fairly certain are Metalform-made. Pick up a used magwell off here at some point. Find some ghetto grips for it. Find a used thumb safety that works. Ditch the SA ILS crap in MSH and drop in lighter MS (~19#) and standard cap. Find some local guy to tweak springs to "improve" trigger for little to nothing. I won mine in a random draw at a match. Have about $200 into it for parts and front sight cut; didn't re-park, just cold blued it. Dropped in GS and hammer parts, extended mag release that already had, installed used larger thumb safety that functions, dumped crappy ILS stuff and added Hogue Magrips(?). Quite serviceable/shootable at this point.
  11. It (sear/leaf spring) can still jump out of its notch in the lower part of the grip and more importantly, end up not resting on the proper points in the fire control assembly. And, the free end of that hammer strut has to be in the recess on top of the MS cap.
  12. I'm with Dave here. It is absolutely possible to do it! And, with just shooting classifiers and not looking for match bumps, etc., it is even more doable. Not highly recommended, and would be tough to back up that GM card at majors vs. similarly skilled shooters with major scoring ammo, but you can absolutely make GM with a plastic gun and factory ammo.
  13. You put it back together incorrectly. Gotta get the strut in the correct location on top of MSH cap with MS installed correctly and have sear spring in correct orientation as well.

Truly impressive that Taran let something like this happen. Now, the media has someone in a "famous" competition shooting jersey saying that there are too many guns. I mean come on, Taran, you gotta check these gals out before...
  15. Seems that maybe Atlas did a YouTube vid of something like this. Maybe included the various grip circumferences as well...
  16. Good cheek-weld for consistency with whichever optic you choose will be important. You won't have the option of an adjustable stock to shift cheek-piece and LOP for better fit, so I would say that you will want to handle both rifles and see which feels as though it will fit you better. You may end up needing an aftermarket "tie-on" cheek-piece to get your eye where you need it for shooting through a scope suited for that distance. Definitely get the muzzle threaded, but not for a comp unless that comp is a suppressor mount. If you're gonna go...
  17. There are a few pistols pictured in this thread (and others on this site) with green surface treatments on various parts. Can someone point me to who did/does those treatments/finishes? Green-ish "chameleon" or "Rainbow Ti" looking?
  18. I havent had any issues with the 8-10 various caliber/length MBX mags (9/38, .40, .45, 126/140mm) that I have bought.
  19. I've had good luck with the C-Products offerings for the x39 AR mags as well.

Browning. Look closely and you will see its a "buckmark" and not Arabic...
  21. Thin rubbery type works better than gritty type...
  22. No question that you made the right call, especially if you are quad-loading. 10rd might make sense if you were only loading 2's something. Some matches limit to 8rd tubes, but not many anymore and you can still plug it to 8 if needed. 12 was the right choice.
  23. Pretty certain that Glenn at Lone Star Innovations has a solution for this very thing.
