Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. AR-500 Armor Plate 3/8" is the only way to go for Pistols. Someone always shows up with a rifle and this way it won't hurt it if its shot. Also poppers need to be reversed every several 1000's rounds (starts to curve)this keep them straight. If you are making a Steel Challenge style targets that are loosely hung 1/4" AR-400 to AR-500 will ring like a bell and be twice as loud as 3/8" steel. Max
  2. I have a Delta Point on my Open S/V pistol and love it. Have tried or looked thru most of them on the market and this is my opinion the best all around sight. Mine is mouted directly to the back of the milled down slide which puts the bottom of the lens even with the slide. The dot is so close to the slide it is basically like looking down the slide on a limited pistol. I have the diamond dot and would have perfered the round dot but was not available when I got mine. Very easy to pick up on Steel or Run and gun stages but for a very accurate shot say a head shot at 10 to 15 yds. I have it zeroed on the Point. Very easy to zero (6 rds of Major 9) and it has stayed there for over a year. Very solid made and it is the smallest of them all and has a very nice window and diamond is clean as you will find anywhere. Don't know how to put picture on this floormat but if you want you can E-Mail me at maxco@theedgepc.net and I will send you pictures of what it looks like and the mounting. In my opinion for the money this is the best out there today. Gunsteel
  3. Forgot to add that it only took about 8 rds. to sight this Dot in and after several Matches and 500 rds of practice the Dot is still zero perfect. Sandbagged my pistol at 15 yds. and still shot about 3/4" 6 shot group. The self adjusting brightness deal works very, very well. Beside the diamond shape dot (wonder why they did this) the scope is perfect in every respect. Very well made with Titanium frame and the shape of the lens is great (Lots better than round) Max TY-21921
  4. Haven't seen a StS C-More but I do have a Leopold Delta Point on my Open S/V and it is really nice if you can get use to the diamond shape. Brightest Dot I have ever seen on a small scope, very easy to see in the bright sun. Dot sets about 1/4" off my slide as the back of the slide has been milled down. Fits perfect. My dislike about the scope is I would lot rather have a round dot and leopold call's this dot a 7 but compared to a C-More (regular) it looks like a 10 or 12. "BIG" Really works well for Steel but that head shot at 12 yds you have to slow way down because you sight the scope in on the point at top and that is where you need to put the target for a accuracy shot. Max TY-21921
  5. Absolute no problem at 10 yds. The Target will move rearward when you hit it and all splatter should no come 2 yds forward. Gunsteel
  6. I love the rise out of the coffin description. MaxTrap- Shoot Target behind, N/S in front. Trip and N/S comes down and exposes Shoot Target. Can be adjusted for time by hight of Target (higher is slower) There are 3 holes in trip arm for weight. Further out the weight, faster it works. Can adjust N/S to how far down it comes by moving collar on rod. Further down, longer time. I designed and build them and I can make it work from 1/2 sec. to 1.2 sec. depending what you want. Clamshell- Shoot target flat on ground, N/S flat on ground. Trip and the shoot Target comes up, 1/2 sec. later N/S comes up and covers shoot target. Beartrap- That is a foot activator Can see pictures of all this stuff at www.gunsteel.com Later Max TY-21921
  7. I think personally Jerry Barnhart Great guy when you get to know him. Merl Edington (Army) Vance Schmitz (Ill.) The Jet (Jethro) Matt McClurin Ken Tapp

  9. I have DQ'ed 3 times since 92. All were at major matches with lots of travel expense and entry fee. DQ'ed once in Tx. at a 3 day match and I did it on the 2nd Stage. Ran by a Target and then saw it Swung my pistol around and broke 180 RO said. I was with another guy so I just sat and helped for 3 days. Would have gone home if I could have found a Plane. Other 2 were AD's on steel trying to get that o.7 first shot. Works most of the time. Max TY-21921
  10. I shoot Major 9 in a open S/V pistol, Schuman 355 Barrell. I use VV-350 at 1.150 length with a 124 gr zero bullet and it take 7.4 gr to make 169 PF. Comp works good on this load and VV Powder is extreamly clean burning. 500 rds and pistol is still fairly clean. Have use Hodgen HS-6 powder also with 124 gr, and it takes 8.4 to make 169 PF. On a 9mm Major the case is basically full and the bullet compresses the powder a little. I don't think I could get enough powder in 9mm case to make major with a 115 gr bullet. Hope this helps. Max TY-21921
  11. Use to shoot steel 3 time a month. I used a 105 gr. lead bullet and win. 231 powder in a 9x21 cartridge open pistol. Don't remember the gr. but it shot about like a 25 cal bullet. I think it was making about 110 PF and I used a 6lb. spring with 2 coils cut off. Never put over 10 rds in 24 rd. mag as it may not strip the next round out of the mag. Basically today I would think the lighter the bullet and a slow powder is the way to go. Just needs enough power to cycle the pistol good as you will never shoot over 40 yds in a match and 90% will be 15 yds or less. Max TY-21921
  12. I shot 9x21 from 1993 to 2006 and loved the cartridge. It will shoot in a 9x23 or a 38 sup but if the case gets past the extractor the only way to get it out is with a squib rod. Had this to happen a couple times with 9mm brass also. Will shoot perfect in a 9x21 and may work all day but if your in a stage and extractor misses the rim you will have to DQ and get a squib rod out to clear the Barrell chamber. Not Good!!!!!!!!! Max TY-21921
  13. I have owned basically every holster ever built plum back to the old 007 safariland & Earnie Hill's first style holster.. I now and have for years use a Limcat that you have to drill a hole in the front of trigger guard and screw a bolt into the trigger guard to lock it. I got this holster from Johnny Limcat personally calling him on the phone when I saw JoJo with one at the Nationals. They were not even on the market yet, but I talked him into selling me his personal holster. Still have it and would not trade it for any holster made in the world today. Not saying there isn't other great holsters out there but a shooter need to love the equipment he uses just like his dog. I have used this holster so long I am just comfortable with it and have all the confidence in it a shooter can have. Max TY-21921
  14. why would you put a side mount using one of the little bity scopes. I have a S/V 9mm open pistol with the back of the slide machined down like the pistol in the picture. Put a leupold delta-point on my pistol, bolting it directly to the machined down flat on the back of the slide. The bottom of the Glass is even with the top of the slide. When I throw the pistol up & it is basically the same sight picture as pointing a limited gun. Dot can't be over 1/4" to 5/16" off slide which is lower than the one in the picture. I don't have all that bulk out on the side and it's a 100% neater looking. I try to use the "KISS" method on everything I can. Just my opinion as over the years I have owned basically every dot scope and mount ever made. Max TY-21921
  15. I have been shooting a S/V open pistol for 16 years. I have owned every dot that has been available looking for that extra edge. C-More is basically the best for me as I never had any trouble finding the dot and it always stayed true when sighted in. I have always sighted in at 15 yds. (1/2") groups then went back to about 40 yds and tried it. My pistol would rise about 3 or 4 inches at that distance. Main thing at that distance is the horizonal setting. It may shoot perfect at 10 to 15 yds (you think) but if you have to shoot the 50 yd. standards it may shoot 6" off to the right or left. Fine tune there and your in business. Max TY-21921
