  1. Why is it not legal? Can't have all steel. you can absolutely have all steel 4.3.1.4 states that metal plates must not be used exclusively and that one paper target or popper must be used.
  2. There were 2 stages in 2014 that were 27 rounds, other than that 24 has been the limit. Since this match is "The Single Stack Classic" it has always (normally) followed the tradition of stages being no more than 24 rounds. When the match and division were pitched, you needed a 1911, carry type holster and 3 magazines (hence the 24 round rule).
  3. Last call for Sectional Shirts... I will be putting in the order tomorrow afternoon.
  4. There are 2 spots left for all day Saturday. There is plenty of room for half day Saturday half day Sunday If there is enough interest I can make 1 more all day Saturday squad. I have to turn in the final shirt order on September 1 so if you want a shirt get them ordered ASAP Thanks Eric
  5. 160 total competitors, there are a couple of spots left for all day Saturday, plenty of room on the 2 day format. I will get the division count when I get the computer fired up tonight. Also, there is only 1 week left to order a shirt. I have to give the shirt company the final order September 1st!
  6. The Single Stack Classic, which is the match that created USPSA's single stack division, is all about tradition. The entire concept and the creation of the 1911 society was about everyone having the same gun (roughly) and equipment (carry type holsters) and only needing 3 mags to compete. That is why there are no more than 24 rounds per stage (3 mags). This match is a shooting contest, not a track meet; the stages are technical and all about execution. USPSA now uses the Single Stack Classic to decide their national champion, but still has no involvement with the match; the match is entirely designed, built and presented by the 1911 society. This year the stages were set up to lean more towards a 6 round option to see if more people would revert back to major in revolver. The focus was to make the major/minor decision very difficult for competitors in both matches of the "Classic Nationals"
  7. Match Hotel: Heritage Grand Inn 1150 E Linn St Canton, Il 61520 (309) 647-9675 Group rate code: USPSA IL Sectional The rooms should be $50-$65 plus tax on the group rate. Their continental breakfast is from 0530-1030. I have also arranged a 10% discount from one of the local restaraunts that opens at 0430, so if you want something more than the hotel breakfast they will be ready! American Grill 525 S 5th St Canton, IL 309-647-3613 I have also spoken with the owner of the local steakhouse Big Racks (no it is not like a Hooters, please spare them the jokes). He is an avid hunter and owns an elk heard, he is one of us. He is very excited to have our people and I will be finalizing a deal with him closer to the match when I have more accurate numbers on how many people we will be sending his way.
  8. The shirt company is still working on the design. We will post it as soon as they get the design finished. The shirts will be the nice dry wick tee shirts like the competitor shirts from Area 5 the last 2 years.
  9. You should be able to check out stages, there will probably be a lot of shooting going on until lunch time. We will give refunds and take shirt orders until Sept 1. No refunds or shirt orders after September 1, 2015!
  10. Yes, if you are on a Sat AM/Sun AM squad then you would shoot 6 positions each morning starting at 0800.
  11. OK folks, I spent the day in Canton IL, the match hotel will be there. I am still working with a couple of hotels to find the best deal and will post that information as soon as I have it all worked out. It is a short 20 minute drive, north of Havana up 78. Canton has many nice restaurants that have been very receptive to group discounts, I have worked out a few deals with them as well. More details to follow. Eric
  12. If your name shows up in the online squadding for the Illinois Sectional and you haven't received your PIN contact me either on FB or email ericgriggs@msn.com - I will get you your PIN. There is an issue with the website. USPSA's webmaster is working on it, but says it may be a week or so till they get it fixed. Thanks Eric
  13. I haven't started on stages yet, but I am not making any promises about doors activating moving targets!!
  14. So since everyone seems to have an opinion on this situation let me put my .02 in since I am the RM that made this call. This wasn't even the most interesting issue at this match so I am astounded that this is what you are all choosing to focus on. Let's get the situation straight first. This was on staff day, and the entire (RO) squad shot the COF with the slide locked back. Since 8.1.3 was not met the COF should never have been started per 8.3.1. Since that condition was not met the competitor should not have been started. On that note, since there was no competitive advantage gained on a scored COF there was no bump to open. This also happened all at once, he technically never got bumped to open, the situation was explained to me and the entire squad was ordered to reshoot. I also discussed this issue with the 3 other RMs on the range including the new DNROI and ALL agreed that this was the correct action for this situation. What is more interesting to me is the fact that people, certified ROs included, don't understand the ready conditions as laid out in the rule book. Why do things have to be spelled out in lengthy detail when they are in the book? My advise is to go through the RM course, run a few LIII matches and make these decisions for yourself. Regardless of your opinion, do something about it and STOP BITCHING ON THE INTERWEBS!! Sorry, this whole sorry tale sounds like a BS rationalization for giving a do-over to an RO. He was given the correct range commands, the start signal was given, and he shot the course of fire. The moment the start signal was given while he had 11 rounds in the magazine, he was breaking the rules. No amount of range lawyering can change that fact. As match officials, we police our own and so every call we make should be above board and whiter-than-white. This kind of thing is very disappointing and unprofessional IMHO. It seems that the RM corps would disagree with you, but what do we know. Seeing people running off at the mouth on the internet is "very disappointing and unprofessional IMHO." Wow, defensive much? I don't see anyone bitching. I see a bunch of people discussing the issue, with the information given, and trying to determine a rational outcome. If anyone here has been unprofessional, it's you--because you came crashing into the thread, spring-loaded into the pissed-off position and started leveling accusations and generally throwing a hissy fit. My 13-year old acts more rationally than that on most occasions. Once you explained the entire situation, I can see where it would be very confusing, so I don't know that I really have an issue with the way you handled the situation at the match. How you handled the situation on this thread? That's a whole 'nother story. You should really take a deep breath before you post. If you can't do that, then you probably shouldn't bother responding to stuff like this, because you can't discern between a rational conversation and people bitching. Not defensive at all Kent, just tired of people arguing issues that have simple solutions. There is a process to deal with these issues, email dnroi@uspsa.org and ask for a ruling. Once again, why argue an issue that you have no authority to rule on?
  15. But you see this is the problem, there are too many variables at play to make a hard rule for this issue. The resounding thing I remember from my RM review is this statement "RO's and CRO's deal in black and white, RM's live in a world of grey" My take on that statement is that while we have a rule book we can't have a rule for every situation. There has to be someone to advice (just for you sarge) on the grey areas. I'm not sure I agree. I would think this is actually a pretty black and white situation. If a shooter shoots a stage and later has to reshoot the same stage, then the first run did not occur and any penalties or division violations would have not occurred and the shooter shall remain in the declared division. There shouldn't be any grey area on this one. Now a side question - what if the stage gets thrown out later for something not related to him. Does he get moved back now also? No, he does not get moved back . Per the Arb process in section 11, specifically rule 11.6.2 Implement Decision – It will be the responsibility of the Range Master to implement the Committee’s decision. The Range Master will advise the appropriate match personnel who will post the decision in a place available to all competitors. The decision is not retroactive and will not affect any incidents prior to the decision. Therefore if someone gets DQ'd or bumped to open on a stage that gets thrown out only the person who files and wins the Arb gets the benefit and no one who previously was DQ'd or moved to open are not affected because the decision is not retroactive.

  17. How about send an email to DNROI for a ruling, that's why he gets paid, instead of having a back and forth argument on here. That is the correct procedure and cuts out the argument, and why have an argument that you have no authority to rule on?
  18. Well, in all fairness though, it's not like we're letting one of us have all that power...... The folks who have held that position have had a little bit more education and experience than any dozen or so of us..... And it isn't like the DNROI doesn't discuss complicated issues with the corps of RMs and RMIs to get a consensus before making a ruling on tough issues.
  19. I might entertain that argument -- got to think about that one.... No - you don't get back into production. Per 11.6.2 Implement Decision – It will be the responsibility of the Range Master to implement the Committee’s decision. The Range Master will advise the appropriate match personnel who will post the decision in a place available to all competitors. The decision is not retroactive and will not affect any incidents prior to the decision.

  21. Too many! Good point but DAMN, slide locked back?!? Come on, that sounds made up! A whole squad of RO's?!? My favorite part was when I asked them why they thought they could do that they said "well Troy told us we could." Really?? When was that because he wasn't on the range at that time, he was dealing with the news crew. Did you discuss it with him last night? or this morning before you started shooting? It is surprising how many people don't actually have a clue as to what is in the rule book. I even had a guy arguing a call while he was digging through a staple bound Blue book.
  22. Let's get the situation straight first. This was on staff day, and the entire (RO) squad shot the COF with the slide locked back. Jesus! Where did you dig up the staff for this match? An RO that thought that was a legal ready condition should have had his card pulled right there on the spot! This makes sense. The OP didn't quite put it so clearly. I also discussed this issue with the 3 other RMs on the range including the new DNROI and ALL agreed that this was the correct action for this situation. My advise is to go through the RM course, run a few LIII matches and make these decisions for yourself. Hey, we are not all RM's but we know the difference between advice and advise! Regardless of your opinion, do something about it and STOP BITCHING ON THE INTERWEBS!! What do you want us to do? Send me the names of the RO's that thought they could start a COF with a slide open and I will publish their names if that would help. How about start with Troy's first rule, that would be a hell of a start!!
