sorry I was tinking of a crane lock...

brownells got the fixture, staking puch + springs and balls.
practice first on scrap metal, you will see you don't need brute force to "stake" the ball. to much power with your hammer and you will knock the ball below the surface and it will not lock.
the dept of the hole for the spring and ball is important (.275 to .290), to deep = not enough spring tension, not deep enough = no spring tension.
if you don't use the fixture make sure you don't drill in the hole for the ejector rod, use a 1/8 drill
all the info in the Kuhnhausen S&W shopmanual...

hey, getting S&W parts in Europe can be hard... I'm from Belgium and order parts by a Dutch gunshop. they get there parts from Mickx, the Dutch distributor/ S&W service center.
you can try 3gun.nl or dharkon.nl for ordering and shipping parts

read this
http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/lid=12535/GunTechdetail/2-lb-Trigger-Pull
and see how much spring tension you need , where to polish the disco, polish the center leaf spring etc
chamfer the sides of the top of the disco to prevent drag in the disconnector slot, chamfer the underside of the breach face or a look @ this http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=283863

sorry for my "poor" English

you can also try round nose bullets to be sure the TC bullets are not the problem (or the overall cartridge lenght )

adjustmentscrew out so the sight is loose, put the pin in halfway until it hits the spring in the middle, depress the spring with a verry small drill bit and push the pin trough.
my pin came out on the right sight while shooting, peened the pinhole a little...
I hope you understand my "technical" English

hey, did all the things you said but the baseplate is still on te slide...
isn't a problem anymore. replaced the pin and pressed the spring with a 1mm dril and got the new pin in... now I know for sure the sight won't come loose :-)

is the rear sight hold in place by a screw AND loctide? wanted to remove the rear sight but I can't wear it out...
is there a trick to prevent te long pin from dribling out? light bend or staking?

since you are loading VV powder and vectan (ba10) I think you live in Europe... try some of the lead Drummen Accuracy bullets. they are available in 175 grain (and 200 and 230) and verry soft shooting and accurate with slower powders (N340)

take a look @ www.chamberscustom.com and you can see there is another option than bullbarrel/bushing...
Joe builds great bullseye pistols and uses bushings, bullbarrels and conventional barrels with sleeve cones. all shooting sub 1.5" @
50y
go to the site - gallery and the first picture of a double stack, look at the barrel

Jurgen Flass ? how long did the order take???

a new bushing fitted to your pistol and a good triggerjob will help a lot and are not that expensive...
a new (match)barrel fitted bij a gunsmith (he normaly replaces the stock bushing)will also help a lot (= more expensive)
a heavy and creepy trigger is hard to shoot accurate, even in an axpensive custom...

just back from the range, I've tried the Wollf callibration set.
the springs are shorter than the standard spring in my 6" Les Baer.
started with the 15lbs and went down to the 11lbs. with the 11lbs 1 FTF, the 11 and 12lbs makes the gun cycle to slow for me. found the 13 lbs spring the best for my purpose (PPC)
shooter next to me was shooting a compensated colt with a 9lbs spring without failures, was a 5" gun

buy a Wolff calibration set, 5 springs going from 11 to 15 lbs, figure out wich spring is the best for your load an order a few of your desired springs.
gr T
-
thought you have to cut the Wolff spring to the same lenght as your original spring.
I know Les Baer uses Wolff springs wich they cut to the lenght required. (mailed with Wolff this week for a new spring for my 6" Les Baer)

in Belgium the N320 = 46 euro or 62 dollar ! and Vihta is a European company. Oh I hate all those taxes.
N320 and N340 are verry clean powders, use them in .38 special, my .45 load is with Vectan BA10 (minor target load)

sorry double post

my experience with wadcutters
don't push them, use verry fast powders (N310 or N320, I use vectan BA10) load minimum is 2.3 grain, I load them with 2.1 (my risk). bullet seats 1mm out of the case for faster reloads. I give them a tight taper crimp
this is my PPC load
tried N340 with lots of unburnt powder left in the case and gun.

Here's what STI says on their websight. Hope this helps. Gabe
Compensated pistols 9 pounds
5" 9mm guns 12 pounds
5" .40 S&W guns 14 pounds
5" .45 ACP guns 16 pounds
6" 9mm guns 10 pounds
6" .40 S&W guns 12 pounds
6" .45 ACP guns 14 pounds
is the lenght the same for 5" and 6" pistols? I want to try some new springs in my 6" but don't now if I could use the springs for 5" pistols

How to Use SVI trigger in STI grip

also look at the trigerstop, trigger must reset propperly and if you pull the trigger and guide the hammer forward feel if the hammer touches the sear, when they touch adjustment is needed (more overtravel)
also set pretravel and make shure the trigger reset is fine
if the triggerbow is longer there are a few more things to check...
