tested the gun yesterday... with an 8 lbs recoilspring I had some feeding probs, the bras has 2 parrallel marks of the magazine lips...
changed to an 10 lbs and the feeding problems are gone! gun cycles perfect on factory ammo and reloads!
time for some cerakote and optics!

hi
I live in Belgium so the following powders are "easy to obtain"
VV 350
VV3N37
vectan SP2
Ramshot true bleu (cheapest of them all)
I load my ammo on a RL550
are there any issues involved when using certain powders? I know in the past I've had some problems with fine ball powder in my dillon 550
The gun is a custom on a 2011 frame and a trubor T1 barrel in 9x19.
I've tested the gun with factory ammo and vihta N340 reloads and it works flawless... but I want to get the comp working harder

I got them from a local gunsmith (family ;-) ), he bought them years ago... he made some customs in the 80's/90's based on Thompson frames and slides
he is family of my girlfriend and when I was talking with him I realized that I knew a lot abouth the 1911, sometimes more than him. that was the start of my first triggerjob, extractor tuning... getting my arms dealer license... and now 3 years later I've build my first custom!

while I was milling I thought of making myself a gauge :-)
today I have reamed the chamber and fitted a link, turned oud that the correct link size was between +3 and +6 (Marvel link set from -9 to +9 with .003 increments)
hand cycled some truncated cone blanks and they feed wel (used an 8 lbs recoilspring)
thanks for the pics!

I don't have a lathe, I placed a drillbit of the correct size between the frame and the angle plate :-)
I've milled the VIS to the depth that scheumann listed on his instructions (.500) now I read some other dimensions, .495 on the Brownells site and I have an other STI frame that was milled at STI and that measures only .485
tomorrow I get some links and see wich link is needed.

this was my setup for milling the VIS
frame is move forward to measure

I've done pistols with Cerakote. on CZ's and Glocks there is no problem with the frame/slide fit. I've done a few STI's and they need a little love to get the frame and slide together. you can scrape the coating of the frame rails and use some lapping compound.
cerakote done right is some work.
function check the safeties and the pistol (customers always bring perfect functioning pistols...)
clean the gun (sometimes I get some lead/powder residue with a inside a pistol...
sandblast (I prefer to make some wire hooks on smaller parts before sandblasting, it is not fun to search for small farst in a sandblasting cabinet)
soak in aceton for 30 to 60 min
gas out in the oven for 60 min
cool down / prepare the coating
coat (doutone you have to clean your airbrush in between colors)
bake for 120 min
check your work, maybe do a retouche and clean your airbrush etc
reassemble and funtion check
but you can do it all yourself, hard chrome isn't something you do at home

jediwarrior, when milling the VIS can you take mesurements? with my setup I can place the slidestop (right to left) and mesure the depth of my cut and adjust.
I love those pics of real gunsmiths! that is the only way we can learn about gunsmithing here in Belgium. I have the kuhnhausen manuals, the AGI and Wilson Combat video's but there is so much more to learn about milling setups etc.

I've cut the HIS with a 8mm endmill, the with of the barrelfeet is 9.22mm so I can mill the slot to the dimensions of the barrelfeet. dept was .300
the problem for the moment was the wrong endmill in the Nowlin frame bridge cutter, it was delivered with a non center cutting endmill.
I use an angle plate to hold the frame
I'm not a machinest but I have bought a second hand RF45 clone mill just for fun. I've had some milling at school 15 years back...

hi
this was a frame for a non ramped barrel so I milled the slot myself, the slot was .300 deep
I have not fitted the barrel yet, still waiting for a replacement mill for my Nowlin frame bridge cutter, it was delivered with a wrong endmill
thanks for the input!

75 Tactical rear sight, 6.0 FO front sight, Competition hammer, drop in SRT ( will have to fit for the firing pin block lever), SS guide rod, 11# recoil spring, 13# hammer spring, 85Combat trigger, aluminum grips or VZ grips.
Hi
this week I recieved a CZ85 combat from the (Belgian) ditributor and it didn't have the "85 combat" trigger anymore. the distributor recieved the pistols last week from CZ. so I think the new 85 combats come with different triggers (I think like in the SP01 shadow)

Hi
I'm building an open 9mm major with a 9x19 trubor barrel
I know that I have to finish ream the chamber, but do I need to enlarge the freebore for 9mm major or has the factory barrel the correct freebore?
triggerparts installed + safety (STI sear +disco, C&S hammer, EB safety-
some machine work done

@ donnyglock
you can also coat the polymer gip so grip and frame are the same collor

the gun I'm building isn't a dedicated IPSC gun... more for the fun and maybe in the future a Bianchi Cup, so I want an optic that is parrallax free.
indeed the DAA mount looks lik it is mounted at angle.

sorry for the late reply... been to France to buy some Champaigne :-)
I have not decided wich optic, maybe a 90° C more or I put my Aimpoint Micro on a 90° Doule alpha mount

Hi
in the near future I'll be drilling a 2011 frame for a scope mount...
since the barrel in full lock up is under a small angle (1° ?) do you have to drill the holes under the same angle? or are the adjustments of a modern red dot large enough to compensate?
I heard a story of an optic that could not compensate enough...

maybe this helps? read the post of Log man... worked fine for me!

I've cut a .043 wire 6" spring to lenght (same amount of coils) and it worked flawless. spring is a bit stronger than the original with 10 000 rounds

wich spring to buy?
the green (RM light) spring is almost 2x the lengt of the original spring. the original spring doesn't seem to be a shortned spring and the wire is .043, the green spring is .039 wire
