Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I took my gun (G23) apart for the first time and saw that the tip of the firing pin was broken. It seems to have lost tiny pieces of the tip, like if a mouse had nibbled on it!
  2. I also use rice. Buy the cheapest, it works great!
  3. Take a look at my loads, I hope these help: My .40 S&W reloading data
  4. I can't blame the bullets, they are very well made with very small variations, I don´t think there´s much more than 1 grain in difference between Hi and Lo. I´ll look into the diameters to see íf there´s anything interesting along those lines. My mayor worry is that when I measured my 9 mm I got a standard deviation which was always around 15. The .40 loads are coming out at over 30. I see that Jim Norman gets SD of 5-8. What kind of SDs are you guys getting?
  5. Thanks for all the great information. Brian's Forum is always of great help!
  6. I use .402 bullets instead of the common .401 because my Federal Arms barrel has a grove diameter of .402. I crimp a little more because the form of the bullets is rather strange, it has a semiwadcutter base (??) that was hitting the top of the chamber and not feeding correctly.
  7. I shoot a Glock 23 (.40 S&W) loaded to a PF of 165. I´m into IDPA to get "real life practical experience" and not to win trophies and a Glock 23 is what I carry. I am not against winning a trophy but my goal is to shoot the gun I carry the best I can. Then again, since IDPA is a category competition I just might win a trophy as a novice using my Glock 23 instead of winning a trophy as a Marksman using a Glock 17. It´s a choice.
  8. Below you will find all the data I have recolected on my 9 mm and .40 S&W loads. I hope someone will find it helpfull. At this time I would like to comment on the .40 data because I find some of it to be rather odd. If you take a look at the standard deviations and difference between Hi and Lo you will notice they are rather large. My .40 S&W Reloading Data Does anyone else get these large differences between Hi and LO and high standard deviations? Please share your experience. By the way, since I shoot brass that many times comes from Glocks I´ve made some changes in the dies I use for reloading .40: Station # 1: EGW - to take the belly out of the brass. Station #5: Lee Factory Crimp Die - Since I use .402 bullets I sometiems got a belly in the case at the base of the bullet. This die irons out the belly. I use .402 bullets because my barrel (Federal Arms) has a groove diameter of .402. Note: After changing these dies for the Dillons you will find it much harder to operate the 650 since these dies offer more resistance not only at stations #1 and #5 but also at the powder station since it´s going to be harder to pull the case out of the funnel. Only make these changes if you have to! -------------------------------------------------- All My Reloading Data
  9. I´m thinking of buying a couple of Matt Burkett's videos however I can´t buy all 5 at once. I shoot IDPA (6 competitions) and even though I am a novice I believe I´ll be a marksman any time soon. I´m thinking of buying Videos 4 and 5. Is this a reasonable choice or should I first buy 1 to 3?. Thanks in advance for your advice!
  10. I´m looking for a fanny pack to carry a Glock 23 and there seems to be a very good selection: Galco, Blackhawk, Eagle, DeSantis, and more. I would rather have a smaller pack that permits a fast draw. Any suggestions? THANKS!
  11. I'm reloading .40 S&W for a Glock 23 using a Federal Arms barrel. Powder is 4.4 gr. of WIN 231, OAL 1.120, a crimp of .422 and mixed cases. I slugged the barrel and got a grove diameter of .402. I´m using 180 gr. .402 linotype (lead) bullets. The PF is about 165. I´m happy with the load and the gun cycles fine. The problem I'm having is that about 4% of the times the ammo does not chamber correctly. I try to cycle the bad ammo several times and see some friction markings at the mid case lenth. I´ve done some measurements and the ammo that does not cycle has a mid case measurement around .425 and that seems to be the cause of the problem. Does anyone have experience using a Federal barrel with a Glock .40 S&W? I so, what size/type of bullets do you use? I'm thinking of using .401 bullets instead of the .402 even though the grove diameter is .402.
  12. I slugged my Beretta 92 (9 mm) barrel and found the inside diameter to be .3565 to .3570. I have been using .356 linotype (lead) bullets but am considering changing to .357. Please let me know what you think. Thanks in advance!
  13. My favorite load with TiteGroup is 3.8 gr. with 120 gr. LRN Linotype (lead). I get a power factor of 132
