  1. Thanks to all of you for helping me get in touch with Jeff....It was more than I expected.... Regards to all who helped!! Mike
  2. Thanks for al of the help...Tom Drazy told me about the stage list, but now he can't find the address. I would still like to get the list if it is out there...
  3. I have been told that a gentleman by the name of Jeff Mache has a data base of approx. 100 stages for Steel Challenge type matches. If anyone could give me a link to that information....I would appreciate it!
  4. Had the usual great time. Had the usual glitch on each stage to keep me humble. Shot with the usual great squad, including Ted Puente, Nick Kalishek, Dan Tomososki and Matt Drossel.....Lots of laughs and good food! I really appreciate the Pro-Military sentiment of both DPMS and Brownells as match sponsers....it means a lot to me! Stage #1 Shotgun I've never been asked to contribute to the demolition of a real house before
  5. Nice looking gun. I like those grips. I might have to get one of those bigger magwells. Is that the SVI? I see that Dawson has come out with a new one for the single stacks...Does anyone have one? I always favor two-tone guns....what kind of grips are those???
  6. Any info on how the USA Midwest 3-Gun Championship is going??? They should have completed two days of shooting with tomorrow being the last day. I haven't found any sites that have posted preliminary scores.
  7. Thats what I did , Got a roll at walmart . No Problems after that. Brent ME THREE!!!!! Rockchucker
  8. Personaly I don't have a problem with people trying to sell thier stock for "outlandish" prices. It is what our economy is based upon (not so good right now) "supply and demand! How come no one has a problem with investors buying stocks and bonds low and selling high??? Try to buy a Prius for close to retail!!! Every commodity is traded with the idea that it will eventually be worth more than it was when you bought it! Also, take a look at where this gents from....I bet they have a whole new outlook on hoarding ammo and components after the Katrina disaster. What with protecting ones own from bad people.......and bad government!!!
  9. I see that the modreators moved this, but I'm not sure where they moved it. Anyway, thanks for the prompt replys. I appreciate it! Mike
  10. I just sold a rifle (bolt action) to a guy in California. Does anyone know what the "California" rules are for shipping? He said that I have to file an "intent to sell and ship" document with the California Department of Justice. I'm not familiar with any of this, but I have no problems doing the leg work to get'er done... Thanks
  11. Does anyone have any experience with coupling PMags for a magazine bi-pod effect? I love the PMags, but in the 3-gun matches that I get to shoot, there is almost always a stage or two where the ability to use coupled magazines as a bi-pod really comes in handy. I use the Arrendondo couplers with 30 round Brownell magazines or stainless steel C Products mags.... However the Arrendondo's don't work with the PMags and the Buffer Technologies cinch strap isn't great either...
  12. I had Leupold switch out the duplex reticle for the Turkey Plex reticle in a one inch VX-III 1.5-5x20. I like it alot. Just put the head box inside of the circle for a real quick head box shot and anything inside of the circle earns a bullet when in hoser mode. Yet the crosshair gives precision for the longer range stuff. When shooting plates, the circle inside of a circle image is very quick to aquire. I've been thinking about trying the 30mm Illuminated Duplex reticle. The 30mm glass is certainly brighter! What's not to like about Leupold? Excellent American made product. Supports our sport. Unbelievable customer service. Quality at a price that the average shooter can afford.
  13. Go back and look at the Tri-Gun web page. There is a note saying that due to some registration errors the squad lists will not be posted before the match (Thursday).
  14. Kevin: Thanks for the great match, last week. I know some shooters frown on the "multi-gun" thing, but I for one always enjoy a little diversity. It takes more effort to push the envelope than it does to do the status quo. The helping tear down thing is the least that a participant can do...I sure don't want the people who run the matches to get burned out! I have it easy, I live 60-70 miles from the metro area, so it is hard for me to belong to a club. I sure don't mind easing the burden of those of you who do so much so that I can enjoy this sport! Mike Drossel
  15. As Tom mentioned. The schedules for all action shooting in Wisconsin (and Minnesota) are usually posted very quickly on wisconsinshooters.com. I can tell you that the 3-Gun matches at Holmen (Just north of LaCrosse, WI are absolutely top notch! The matches are shot on saturdays and there is usually a first class USPSA match the next day (sunday), so it is well worth it to make it an overnighter! The 2007 3-Gun dates are: March 24, May 26, June 23, July 28, September 22 and October 27. You won't be disappointed!

  17. Interesting! All guns are individuals and like people, each behaves a little differently! My 200 SWC loads are 1.250-1.255 OAL and the stock springs are all swapped out. Mostly I am running 17# mainsprings and #13 Wolff Variable Rate springs. At one time, I thought that the lighter recoil springs might be the problem, but when I put the original springs back in the gun (to get a little more umph! in the chambering process) the problem didn't go away. Like I said the Custom Target II and the Eclipse are going to the Smith this winter.
  18. I have 7 Kimbers. None of the 45's will run with 200 SWC lead bullets. The ramp to barrel throat angle just isn't right. With plated 200 SWCs the failure to feed is worse (softer bullet material). 230 FMJ or 230 RN Plated run flawlessly. I'm thinking of having a Smith re-contour the ramp/throat on at least two of the pistols this winter. There would be no problem if I only shot RN bullets, but I love the 200 SWC. Less recoil and nice clean holes! I have had problems with both my 38 super and my 9mm Kimbers. The main problem was a failure to lock the slide back on the last round. Calls to Kimber were rewarded (promptly) by a new slide release being mailed out. Switching the slide stops seemed to cure the problem. This appears to be a common problem with 9mm and 38 super and Kimber was up front about the fix. Yes $700-1,000 is a lot to spend on a pistol that isn't reliable, but when you think of the variety of ammo that we are asking the pistol to run with, it shouldn't be unusual to have a gun puke on some types of ammo. Like one of the previous posters mentioned. Even the Wilson, Bauer, Novak guns sometimes need to be tweeked. If I wasn't overall satisfied, I guess I wouldn't own seven....
  19. 230 FMJ Round Nose (usually ZERO or WIN) 4.1 straight Clays 230 Plated RN (Ranier) 4.0 Clays Both loads do about 170-175 Power Factor out of a variety of 1911's I used to load 4.3 Grs of WST with a 230 Zero, but my chrono data was fluctuating below Power Factor if the weather was a little warm.
  20. Break Free and FP-10 for oils. Slide Glide if I need something thicker.
  21. Like a lot of Glock shooters, I too worked around the fabled "guppy" bulge on 40 S&W cases. Until I switched out the standard Glock barrels for those by KKM, Lone Wolf and Bar-Sto. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Glock OEM barrels as far as accuracy goes, but they are not friendly to reloaders. After lots of trial and error, I obeyed the suggestions of those who lurk here and went to a Lee U die and a Lee FCD in my Dillon 650. It works just like they said! The only ammo I case guage is match ammo, otherwise its load and shoot! It is very rare to get anything that won't function in my Glocks, Beretta, Sig, Kimbers....whatever.
  22. Kind of funny how we go outside of the firearms industry for solvents and lubricants......I have been using Mercury Outboard Quicksilver Carborater Cleaner as the first step in cleaning rifle bores for years. Read about it in "Precision Shooting" magazine and gave it a try. Cleaning with this product supposedly got the carbon out first and exposed the copper fouling to the copper solvents that came next. Funny thing was that after I read the article, I looked all over for the stuff and ended up finding it at an Evinrude dealer
  23. That shaggy mitt idea sounds pretty cool! I had problems with lube (that got inside of the case) sticking to the expander rod on the belling die. When the case was belled, a couple of grains of powder would stick to the expander (belling) rod and get dragged out of the case. I now use Hornady One Shot on pistol cases because it is thinner than the Dillon lube and doesn't gum up quite as bad. When doing rifle cases, I use Dillon lube and size the cases in a single stage press (Rockchucker) then tumble the cases with a little mineral spirits to get the lube off and then run the cases through the 650 starting with a universal decapping die to get any corn cob out of the flash hole and then seat the bullets in the second die and crimp in a third die. Works for me...
  24. I've been loading for competition shotgun (Skeet-Trap-Sporting) for 40 years and most of the advise given here is appropriate. When trying to reduce recoil and yet maintain the charge weight and the velocity of that charge, the only option as far as the actual load goes is to experiment with the powder. The 1 oz. Winchester target load is actualy loaded with a cannister grade of WSL powder, which was specificaly developed for loading in 1 oz. loads. You might try that. Universal Clays, Green Dot and the old Dupont PB are "slower burning" powders and all have a place in finding a reduced recoil load. Red Dot, which was mentioned earlier is definetly a "fast" burner and short of reducing the amount of powder, and therefore velocity, it is not going to produce "less recoil". In the 50's to early 70's the most common trap and skeet powders were Red Dot and 700X. The reason for their popularity was that the average trap/skeet load held about 17-18 grs of powder so the load was economical, compared to the slower burning powders like Unique, Green Dot or PB, which normally used 20-22 grs to achieve the same velocity. Recoil sensitive competitiors frequently burned a little more powder (more expense) to achieve less recoil by switching to the "slower burning" powders. The slow burners produced more of a soft push type of recoil as opposed to the snappy faster accelerating "fast burners". If you are an action pistol competitor, you see the same thing when USPSA and IDPA shooters seek to reduce recoil and muzzle jump by going to heavier bullets that are pushed by "slower burning" propellants inorder to make "Power Factors". A 1 oz. load at 1150-1200 fps is a great target breaker. Try using those "slower burning" powders. Those light 1 oz. loads might struggle to cycle your semi-auto. A gas operated semi-auto can have the gas ports opened up to achieve reliable cycling or the carrier/operating rod can be swiss cheesed to reduce it's weight. But with a blow back type of semi-auto you are limited to what you can do. As mentioned, adding weight to the gun can help if it doesn't effect the dynamics of the gun's swing. Another option would be to have the barrel's forcing cones lengthened. This is about a $40 operation and kind of smooths the jump of the shot column as it moves from the chamber area into the actual barrel.... Good Luck and Best Regards, Rockchucker
