Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I'm right handed and I was taught to cross thumbs with the left one on top because half of what (little) revolver shooting I've done has been with single action pieces for which the left thumb is used to cock for the next shot without altering grip. If I were shooting double action only, I'd probably change grip style because I don't find crossed thumbs particularly comfortable or secure, though that may just be my auto grip familiarity showing.
  2. Who'da thunk there'd be so many ammo rustlers at SC? That's probably a hangin' offense in some states.
  3. I was at Ft. Belvoir (DC area) a few weeks ago doing a demo of an exoskeleton robot. Several of the military folks that showed up were sporting the new camo. I expect it's here to stay for many years.
  4. I see the term at various vendors' sites, but I don't know what it means. Enlightenment welcome.
  5. Also be aware the Rudy Project insert can only accomodate prescriptions to -4 diopters. You need to look elsewhere if you have a stronger Rx.
  6. Thanks for the load info, Duane. I recently tried: 230 gr LRN Laser Cast 4.5 gr Titegroup WLP primer 1.255" c.o.l 0.470" crimp It was really sooty out of my 5" gubm'nt. As in, the fired cases had large soot flares and the entire forward part of the pistol was black after 50 rounds. There was even some soot on my hands, if I recall correctly. I stopped trying Titegroup in 45 ACP loads after that and have settled on (plain) Clays so far because it's really clean in my pistol, even at low charges. I take it you don't experience this with the load info you provided? Curious. I may still try that load if I pick up some LC semi-wads in the future. -Keith
  7. Duane, what were the load parameters you were using with these rounds? I may try it out.
  8. You could be daring by using {cue horror music chord} YOUR REAL NAME......?
  9. Last prescription for me, 7 years ago, was -6.25 diopters with half a cylinder astigmatism each eye at different angles. I need to get a current exam, but I don't think it's worse than -6.5.
  10. It's bucket of cold water in the face to extraverts when they run across a place where they are in a significant minority. They outnumber introverts more than 3:1 in the US and any one of them makes more noise than five I's.... The Internet, however, collects introverts, most especially Thinking introverts, like a powerful magnet. Penny, it's not so much that I dislike the MBTI as it just doesn't deliver what it purports about half the time. That's an important point to me. It can be useful, though, and is certain fun. Aside to those interested in it: take the real sit-down paper deal some time. It's much better than the Internet knock-offs and is by definition your 'real' MBTI result. The knock-offs are just that, with varying degrees of fidelity. Regarding your comments on taking the MBTI, people who feel boxed in by it often have similar situations. One is if the person is under serious stress. Another is they, for a variety of reasons, don't have a strongly developed personal approach to life yet. Another might be because the person's native inclinations are not valued in the local culture and the person is pressured to behave differently than they'd personally prefer. For example, in up front, kick ass, take names America those who value, oh dunno, group consensus are poo-pooed and sometime marginalized. It's not a valued personality trait though it's part of the available full spectrum of human personality. As for personality systems I like out of the couple dozen I've reasonably investigated, I'd pick factor analysis and core Jung. The better known FA systems are Big Three and NEO-PI. It's quintessential introverted Thinking. This approach submits large numbers of personality words to people to have them group and rate for "intensity." The results are put through a computer for least squares or another fit, then the eigenvectors that span personality space are extracted. It's rather technical. It's a complete shoe-in for an introverted Thinking physicist like me. It has the advantage of being reasonably repeatable and crosses language and culture boundaries better than anything else I know of. Jung is pure introverted Intuition. It provides an orthogonal view to the subject for me. It's not easy for me to work with, but it's gratifying when I make the effort. I especially like how archetype can combine with type for a powerful outlook. People here who score Intuitives and are interested in the subject owe it to themselves to read some Jung. For an MBTI book, check out Personality Type by Lenore Thomson. She's a rare person who writes from the junction of core Jung and Myers-Briggs and plain English. I highly recommend it. -Keith
  11. Personality systems have been an avocation of mine for many (15?) years. I can work with the MBTI but its main value is its ubiquity, to my thinking. It has some hopeless problems but does provide a jargon and forum in which to discuss personality. Since MBTI is the vehicle here, I'll relate that the inventory always reports me as INTP, including 2 sessions taking Form F. It's is a faulty result but I don't think the what or why would be of interest here. -Keith N.B. I have the distinction of personally removing David Keirsey (Senior) from the only type mailing list he ever joined. N.B.2. MBTI is about as related to Jung's ideas as Zima is to Chimey beer.
  12. As a new guy on the block, what I am AMAZED about in this thread is that no one jumped on anyone else about the dire, unacceptable results that would occur if one even so much as thought about, much less attempted, sear work. I mean, that was a completely given response elsewhere. Like it's something NO ONE can undertake without the secret trigger smith handshake of sear work. Here, people seem to truely believe folks are intellegent and capable. I like this site a lot... -KR
  13. Perhaps a perspective change would help. Think of the journey instead of an endpoint. Perhaps one of your gun options would be more likely to result in an interesting journey to you?
  14. I would presume most of the (US) shops have already got their inventory lined up for 1 minute after the law sunsets. I was doubtful it would actually expire, but at this point after they took off for summer recess, I think it's unlikely for the law to be re-instated before it does expire. Here's hoping for it. Of course who knows how long it will last. Get 'em while they're hot.
