  1. The easy answer is: because we love to do it! The long days of resetting, pasting and hanging around the range are a part of the fun for many, some not so much. There is one thing that is for certain though: It is not just "4 minutes of shooting". If a shooter spends their time wisely, has run the plan in their head over & over.. When the buzzer goes off it's like poetry in motion, hitting reloads on the first step, entering positions and exiting them properly, setting a cadence and sticking to it, when time seems like it's standing still around you and you're absolutely wailing on a stage, those moments when it all comes together is a thing of beauty! When you get your first taste of acing a stage, it will blow your mind and keep you coming back for more..
  2. Wow yeah, that's a pretty solid group of shooters. And looking at the match numbers, there's a whole lot of shooters & shooting going on. Looks like the mecca of USPSA. I might have to look at property out that way haha..
  3. I am considering trying out the MG 180 JHP's. I have been running the MG 180 CMJ's without issue but curiosity is getting the best of me. I am wondering where I should start? Mainly the questions I have are in relation to seating and charge. Current load is: 180 Gr MG CMJ 1.180 OAL 5.3gr VVn320 Fed no 100 primer When switching from the CMJ to the JHP what should I expect if I seat to same OAL with the same charge? Is pressure going to spike or drop? I would guess that it will spike as I think the 180 JHP is a bit longer to make up for the hollow point??
  4. Can't speak for the OP but my grip for a handshake is med-strong. I'll also add that I too have tens of thousands of rounds downrange and have always struggled with this. Sometimes it is a non issue other times it is a huge issue. I also have naturally sweaty hands, use progrip and that helps to a degree so needless to say it has been a challenge.
  5. Try bending your elbows a tiny bit more, that will help your arms absorb more recoil rather than having the recoil push straight back through the back of your shoulder blades. Also make sure your shoulders are more relaxed and you're not hunched over the gun, if you're too tense in the neck & shoulders the recoil will knock you around.. Think multiple layer shock absorbers... Starting at wrists then elbows, shoulders etc..
  6. I would like to piggy back on this thread, as I have noticed the same problem with my shooting. Hopefully we can kill two birds with one stone. In my case it's my left hand(weak) I find my sights are not tracking straight up & down and have wobble more like a circular motion. Also, I find myself having to readjust my grip often. It's really frustrating... It's slowing down my splits and really hard to track the sights
  7. I am curious as to what everyone thinks about this. This is not meant to troll, please keep it civil. What I am wanting to know is: Where geographically do you think the best and toughest USPSA competition is? Meaning: where do you think the classes of B - GM have the most depth? So far, I have only shot majors in SC and NC, I am just wondering what better traveled shooters think.
  8. I am experiencing the same problems. I started noticing it about a week ago and it has gotten progressively worse. And I am running a Mac, so I know it is not a virus. Also, I am running road runner turbo, the fastest one you can get from time warner.
  9. Just to update on this thread: I wanted to thank you all for your kind words and motivation. I am back at it! I have started dry firing again and I have seemed to rekindle the fire. It has been difficult but the bus is back on the road! Thanks!
  10. IDPA is a GAME, it is not 'real world' at all. In fact, I believe many things about IDPA would be about as far from real world as you can get.. Most importantly, just go shoot, be safe and have fun. Enjoy the time on the range and good luck in your first match!
  11. Day one is on the books! It was a fun match to shoot and had some challenging stages. Looking forward to running some shooters tomorrow, looks like it will be another good day of shooting! Scores for today have been posted on USPSA's website.
  12. This is going to be a fun match! I am shooting Friday on squad 9 and RO'ing Sat, can't wait! Stop by and say hello! - Greg
  13. See here's the funny thing: I really love shooting and I love practicing. I enjoy every aspect of the sport sans some of the range politics I have witnessed over the past couple years. Again it is the one respite I have in the middle of all the other BS I have been dealing with. The real shitty thing is the fact that all of the other stuff that is going on has just stifled me in just about every way. After dealing with crap day in and day out, financial issues, relationship issues and everything else: I simply do not have the energy to do the things I like to do. It's a lousy spot to be in. And it has just about shut me down emotionally. I guess when it rains it pours.. Trying to pull myself out of the fire, just proving more difficult than I had imagined..
  14. Lots of good advice here. I certainly thank you all for your kind words and motivation. It's been a rough year and trying to get back in the saddle has been a challenge. I have never really had life's issues weigh so heavily as to make me simply want to shut down completely. I am going to try and get back into a practice routine and shoot as much as I can. Hell, I may be broke but it doesn't cost anything to practice. Hopefully I can get my head straightened out. Thank you all again..
  15. Hey there folks, I have fallen deep into a funk and have really lost my will to practice. The past year has really been a tough one from employment/financial problems, relationship problems, dealing with an injury which lasted approximately 3-4 months back to more relationship problems and other little things. This year would be best categorized as a "whirlwind of shit". I was practicing regularly up until the injury and was seeing good gains in all areas of my game. Now with all the (what seems like constant)drama I feel like I have just lost my edge and my will to practice and it sucks. Shooting is the one oasis I have in the middle of all the other crap and I want to be able to enjoy it and get my head back in the game and get practicing. I am still able to shoot a couple matches a month but I want to get totally back in the game and get back to the grindstone. Anyone go through anything similar? What did you do to get over the hurdle? Motivational pep talks appreciated!
  16. Everyone's a critic. To the OP: Those have to be the worst range commands ever. "Shooter when you are ready you may load and make ready" bwahahaha.
  17. This is the type of attitude which has no place in this sport.
  18. In this instance, I feel the RO made a grave error in two ways. Number one: Non standard commands Number two: DQ'ing the guy for what had just happened. Taken in perspective, we are stewards of the sport. It is our duty to make sure people have a good time and stay safe. Having the title RO doesn't mean you should be a "walking talking DQ machine". The shooter should also always be given the benefit of the doubt. In situations like this, you hope common sense prevails. In this case I feel it didn't, that's just my personal opinion. Evidently, common sense is not that common. I personally think that this was an asshat move. Was this guy a certified RO? If so, I would probably write a letter to NROI if I were the shooter. To the people who argue that the man should have been able to hear the commands crystal clear: There are too many environmental factors which make it easy not to hear commands single plugged, double plugged or damn near deaf. To the people spouting: "Show me where it says a RO can't talk, yada yada" - I say: show me where the rulebook says you should call a person to the line then focus your attention on someone in the gallery. Fact is, when you have someone on the line it is your responsibility as an RO to keep focus on that person & their gun alone. Aside from someone coming up and getting between you and the shooter(like Lee King posted with the water bottle incident), your eyes need to be with the shooter. The guy on the score sheet can handle the chatting. And how many of you who have chimed in on this thread are certified RO's or higher?
  19. You could have simply gotten with the Match Director and told him what happened. It is well within your rights to challenge the call. Did you talk to the match director? In RO School, they specifically spoke about this and it happened at nationals. The shooter was reinstated due to non standard commands being used. Also, carry a rule book with you. You must cite the rules which pertain to your appeal! The RO was using NON standard range commands, you could have made a very good argument for your case. I believe that no reasonable MD would allow the DQ to stand when an RO was not using the proper recognized commands. There is no : "range is going hot" "eyes and ears" "do you understand the course of fire?" etc.. And it is for this very reason..
  20. Geoff, good shooting this past weekend I see you did really well. Wish I could have been there to shoot with everyone! Some cool news: I am now a USPSA RO, took the class this past weekend. I think knowing the rules better will certainly help. Well, I am not really back in action yet. Going to start doing turtle speed dry fire over the next week. Hopefully I can shoot the palmetto match this upcoming Saturday! I shot one stage during the RO class and it was evident that I was really really rusty. Moving about 1/4 speed, accuracy was deplorable, couldn't get on my sights like normal & reloads were weak. It will be a long road to get back to where I was before this arm thing started. Going to work hard and get back on track!
  21. Again, I thank you all for the advice and insight. I have been nursing this arm pretty intensively here the past week or so. It feels much much better than it has in months. My question is for you guys who have experienced it: How do you know when it's safe to resume action with it? I still have a bit of tenderness when I grip a gun or if I pick something up the wrong way. But it is nowhere near what it had been. Whats the skinny on this?
  22. Thank you all for the replies & insight. I have been wearing a support brace with adjustable tension. And I have also been trying to baby the arm and not do anything strenuous with it. One thing I have not been doing is icing it. That is something I will begin doing immediately. Also, I have some anti inflammatory meds called meloxicam which I have had for a year or more for a neck/back injury. Would these be a good thing to take? Also, I have some muscle relaxers in 2 varieties: Flexeril and Skelaxin I have avoided taking them because I just didn't know if it would be a good idea to take them with what seems like a weak muscle/tendon. I wasn't sure if taking them would make the issue worse. I have also been taking prescription pain killers when it is really bad. So far, this has been going on for about 2 months now and it would appear that I have been making some progress. But any progress seems to get stunted as I do something to re aggravate it quite often. That's the annoying thing, doing some simple movement can send me right back to the beginning without much effort. It looks like I will just have to wait it out and let it heal and not worry about shooting until it does. Just gripping the gun sends a sharp pain through the arm, there were days when I didn't feel the pain and I attempted to shoot, right back to ground zero in short order. This sucks.
  23. Have any of you guys had tennis elbow or golfers elbow? It would seem that I have one or the other. For the past two months I have had major issues to the point where I am having a hard time taking even a light grip on my gun. Also, being that this is my strong arm, I tend to re aggravate it a lot. It sucks! For those of you who had it/have it: what did you do? How do you fix it? How long does it take to heal? Help! This has been really driving me nuts, I haven't practiced, I am missing matches and it's making me miserable. Hopefully I can find a way to expedite healing.
  24. NO DQ. You had made the turn and the gun was moving toward the targets.
